randomness
It's not Green day's follow up, because it's the Foxboro Hot Tubs.so you do understand
netty
I concur. There is a ton of baggage involved with releasing an album as Green Day. Just think of the months of promotion and crap that comes along with that. Releasing FBHT this way, anonymously at first, they were able to avoid all the extra stuff they may not enjoy. They cut all that out and got the music out to the fans, at the same time piquing everyone's interest with something new and interesting, something to talk about. Genius, really. you dont have to be a genius to be an idiot.... but..
Laura33
I am actually inclined to agree with Jay in a way Although I love FHT, this is certainly not the next Green Day album. It is the guys dicking about in the studio and coming up with a sound they liked. I think they knew it 'wasn't Green Day' it was something else, something they wanted to put out there so they created another side project band. The follow-up will be something bigger and better for sure.
greenbear
Why are people getting all wound up about one little quote in an article? We've enough experience of journalistic inaccuracies, often with Billie being completely misquoted or just plain misunderstood. Why is this any different? The statement “the next Green Day record.” is the only bit in actual quotes and may not follow on from what went before as the sentence implies. Saying that Stop,Drop and Roll is the next Green Day album completely contradicts not only what is written elsewhere in the article but also all that's previously been said on the subject .I don't think that they mean this to be Green Day's follow-up to American Idiot at all. I think the follow-up album will be a much more seriously thought out piece of work not a few random songs put out after a few too many bottles of wine. I dunno - it's Rolling Stone, not MTV - Billie Joe has done major interviews with them. As for a follow-up to AI being a serious piece - why should that necessarily be so? Why couldn't it be just the result of getting drunk and rocking out? I think Stop Drop and Roll is a joy, and I would totally consider it to be Green Day's next step, even if they didn't (allegedly!) say so themselves. randomness
no, i didn't mean in that way. i meant in the musical way. like their music isn't gonna be about masturbation and the like anymore. those sort of topics. they've moved on from that. Laura33
I think they have matured in the fact that they are looking at the world more instead of making wanking observations as amain focal point XD. But I think that the retain their sense of fun and youthfulness. Being older doesn't make you mature it just makes you more aware. But what do I know? greenbear
Don't get me wrong. I love FHT. I love what they've done here but I think they've released it because they just wanted to share these songs which they've decided are not right for the American Idiot follow-up. Billie once said something about the next Green Day album wouldn't be released unless it truly represented how they felt at that time. I just think that a lot more thought will be going or gone into it than for the FHT album. That's why they've used the alias baccause they didn't want it to be consiidered the next Green Day album. They probably only admitted it because they wanted to make a video and couldn't think of a good disguise! Well, that and the fact that when they sobered up they realised they were proud of the songs and wanted people to know it was them.

Waffles
do people really think that these guys dont have the balls to put something out that the fans might not like, under the name green day? if these guys want to record as green day, they`ll put the result out as green day! whether they think the fans might just think it sucks or not. as long as they believe in it, as green day, then thats the name it will have on it! they have to be happy with it first! the fans liking it is the cherry! if they want to do something away from the pressures of "green day", just have fun screwing around in the studio, doing something totally different, without the expectations of touring/photo shoots/interviews/yada yada yada... thats what they`ll do. shesh! thats a fair few !!!!!this is fun for the guys. thats it. somethings should just be enjoyed, not over analysed!good point

M1KEY
Do people simply not pay attention to anything or are they just plain stupid? (Yeah yeah, here goes M1KEY again, right?) Anyway, is "Stop, Drop and Roll!!!" Green Day's follow-up to "American Idiot"?- Um... well, let me think on this for a sec... er... ah... perhaps... or... NO!!!!!And how do we know this?1. The fucking name of the fucking band isn't Green Day.2. In the letter to MTV it clearly states that FHT/Stop, Drop and Roll!!! was the result of the guys jamming and playing around together.3. Over a year ago we were given some info on the progress of the next Green Day record... that they had 3 album's worth of songs, with 3 different directions they could possibly go in: (1) Straight up punk rock (2) Another concept album with a different story (3) According to Billie, "the strangest sounds we've ever heard". Do EITHER of those options paint the picture of the Foxboro Hot Tubs? Not to me they don't. So, stop getting your titties in a knot, don't get your pee hot, and just enjoy the fact that this year alone we are being treated to a new Pinhead Gunpowder EP, a new and exciting side project, and MAYBE even a new Green Day record. That's all.
