Sounds to me like that makes it official - AI's follow-up is with us and it's called Stop, Drop and Roll. :)

:( I really, really hope not xD

"Foxboro Hot Tubs will be shooting a music video for "The Pedestrian" with director Graydon Sheppard."

I have no idea where they got that from. No link to any story, just a link to their myspace.

Just to expand on that further, here's another quote from Rolling Stone.

"The project gives Green Day a chance to blow off steam before forging ahead with their next official album."

So i don't think many will actually consider it the follow up.

If it's 'the next Green Day record', then how can it not be considered the follow-up to AI?

"The upbeat FHT tunes are presumably very different from the material the trio have been working on for the follow-up to their ambitious megahit, American Idiot, which sources expect out this year."

That's all very vague - how does anyone know if it's very different from what's going on another album that may or may not come out this year?

it's not possible for it to be the next Green Day record, because it's not Green Day.

i should hope so too, or i'll be very disappointed.

It better fucking not be the follow up to American Idiot.

OR I may well just punch a llama in the face.

people "know" its different possibly because so many have latched onto the whole "writing on piano" thing that keeps being brought up by fans.

people are going to be arguing about the its greenday/not green day just the guys from green day for the next millenium. :pinch:

If Green Day define it as the next Green Day record, then surely that's what it is? Those words are in quotes, which would indicate they came from the e-mail. It all depends on if that e-mail is verified, I guess - but if it is, I think that's a very definite statement.

I think they're just going by what Billie told them last year; from what i can tell, the songs he had in mind then are nothing like the FHT stuff.

And yeah, Stop, Drop and Roll technically is a new Green Day album, but I can't see them not putting out a proper album in their own name as well.

i haven't seen a proper source so i'm not believing it. and if he did say that, it makes no sense. so i don't think it's true.

lets put it this way then... the mtv guy had the quote "No, Maybe, For Sure" turned into confirmed tour news. he didnt do a direct quote/copy and paste but it was pretty much the same thing.

The whole response to this interests me. I remember Billie Joe saying something way back, kind of questioning that it would be ok to put out a record that was just alright, presumably instead of being up to some huge standard of perfectionism. Well, is it? It seems to me that people can't accept this as being the next Green Day record because of the expectations they have of what that should be.

well every band has a sound. and FHT doesn't sound like Green Day's sound. all Green Day albums are different but they haven't just completely switched genre like FHT. it's cheesey 60's sounding rubbish and it sucks. there i said it :P

lmfao XD

Well i agree with what you said, cept i dont think it sucks that much. I mean I dont constantly listen to the songs over and over or anything, I rarely listen to them, but I know what you mean. Green Day didnt start the band as a 60s band, i dont see why they should change to being one. I think people cant except it as being the next Green Day record, cos its not Green Day O_O

To be honest with you. I expected something as big as american idiot y'know? I still don't think the FHT album is the 'next album' Because for one reason: Not enough people know about them. It has the FHT name on it, and people will be deterred. People know Green Day though, and I think they'd be pretty fucking stupid to not release an album under that name.

I don't think they would use this as the next Green Day album. It has to say 'Green Day' not Foxboro Hot Tubs. As much as I love the Foxboro's, I'm still majorly craving some Green Day material.

As are we all XD. Theres only so much side projects one can take  Seriously though, I know it was to blow of steam before the next Green Day album (the FHT) ... but did they not blow off enough playing a ahem.. select.. few shows in California for PHGP?

I think we're gonna see another side project before we see a new Green Day album, and its really disappointing :/

So, if Green Day say it's Green Day, are their fans gonna tell them that it's not? At the end of the AI era, I remember discussing on this forum how far Green Day could stray from their original sound and still be considered Green Day, as far as their fans are concerned. It seems to me that this is purely a fan thing - everyone else seems to be going 'good for them, taking a chance and doing something different'.

I think that's really what it's all about - people are expecting something as big as AI, and I can just imagine what the weight of that kind of expectation would do to someone's creativity. When Stop Drop and Roll surfaced, so many people were going 'why don't they put this out as Green Day?', claim it, and it seems to me that this is what they're doing now. So what if the follow-up to AI isn't a world-shaker? A lot of people are loving it, some people hate it, that's just the way it goes.

Like I said. I don't think Stop Drop and Roll is the follow-up. It's a side project (Fingers crossed). I'm betting they'll release another under green day next, whether they do it soon is another matter. It may seem unthinkable to some people, but not everyone knows of FHT.

I think that line from the Rolling Stone thing needs to be reposted

"The project gives Green Day a chance to blow off steam before forging ahead with their next official album."

They said it themselves, the FHT songs were written in a flash. To me, it's Billie, Mike and Tre having fun before dealing with making an actual record in the name of Green Day. Calm before the storm or whatever. That's my opinion, anyway

do people really think that these guys dont have the balls to put something out that the fans might not like, under the name green day?

if these guys want to record as green day, they`ll put the result out as green day! whether they think the fans might just think it sucks or not. as long as they believe in it, as green day, then thats the name it will have on it! they have to be happy with it first! the fans liking it is the cherry!

if they want to do something away from the pressures of "green day", just have fun screwing around in the studio, doing something totally different, without the expectations of touring/photo shoots/interviews/yada yada yada... thats what they`ll do.

shesh! thats a fair few !!!!!

this is fun for the guys. thats it. somethings should just be enjoyed, not over analysed!

I didn't say that, once.

I just think that FHT is a little bit of fun for them, and nothing more.

Thats how i feel about it. It's not Green day's follow up, because it's the Foxboro Hot Tubs. Yes i still believe they are the same band/different name, but the follow up to American Idiot will be an album titled/marketed/toured/promoted as "Green Day".

Money Money 2020 wasn't a follow up to Warning.

I concur. There is a ton of baggage involved with releasing an album as Green Day. Just think of the months of promotion and crap that comes along with that. Releasing FBHT this way, anonymously at first, they were able to avoid all the extra stuff they may not enjoy. They cut all that out and got the music out to the fans, at the same time piquing everyone's interest with something new and interesting, something to talk about. Genius, really. :P
