What are your feelings towards Green Day now?

It's really damned annoying. And i just wanted to vent about it. I look around my room and see all the posters and realize all the time I've spent the past 4 years working on GDA and wonder if it'll ever be worth it. The band is not interested in it's fans on even a basic simple level of just sending an email once or twice a year letting us know whats going on (aside from their charity stuff, which i think is a bit ridiculous. Why should we care what charity they're supporting if thats the only time they want to speak up. If they feel that they don't owe us anything aside from their music, they why should they assume anyone cares to give them anymore than their $12 for the album). They set the bar so low for what they've given us that anything minor thing seems like such a huge accomplishment.

Yay...

I still like them just because what they represented for me before.

I don't think now i feel that fan of them.

During all this time i got the chance to discover other bands and stuff, and just listen to Green Day like, once a week. So yes, I'm a bit disappointed. But still have faith on them.

One other issue I forgot to address, GD bashers on this board. Yeah, you're entitled to your opinion, but why are you here? It makes no sense to me whatsoever. I can't imagine going to a website of a band I don't like. I can't imagine posting on a forum of some band I don't like. It just makes zero sense to me.

This has already been discussed. :)

The majority of people joined this board because they liked Green Day. People change. People move on. Okay, so some people don't like Green Day anymore, some people don't like Green Day as much as they once did. But the reality is, the majority of people here are pretty damn awesome, and well, it wouldn't be easy to just leave. Not really. :)

I don't know what to think about Green Day anymore.

I have been thinking about this more. And I suppose I have come to a conclusion.

I'm thinking I have kind of put Green Day on hold. I don't listen to them much (although, I generally listen to Warning when I'm going off to sleep), I have moved on, I like other bands. But that is not to say I dislike Green Day as such, as I am sure I will be thrilled when the album is released (if I have not died of old age) However, I am not getting my hopes up. I'm just going to wait and see. :)

To be honest, I don't know how to describe my feelings about GD right now. I sometimes look at all the photos I have of them in my room... and yes, it's annoying to wait 4 years (and maybe more) for new material, but I still listening to their music, and I think they are one of the most talented and incredible bands in the world. They are what make me listen to rock music and what make me pick up a guitar, I've moved in another bands but I will never turn my back on them.

What can I say? The most and important has been said.

There´s just one line which describe my feelings the best. Not my feelings right now, but maybe the feelings I will have one day. One line I will say maybe sometime to myself and its called: "Forgetting you, but not the time!" Maybe I will forget (figuratively) them, but I will never forget the time I had with them. What they have done to me, to my whole life, my personality etc. And of course what they will do to me in the future :D

I'm still their sick fan. I listen their music every day. It is kinda anoying they haven't released new material yet, but it will be worth of waiting when it comes out. I believe their new album will air somewhere in autumn this year. :)

I still think the same

Sometimes this place confuses me. I get put off coming here sometimes due to the Green Day bashing that goes on. I mean, it's a Green Day forum....I come here to talk about a band I love! I'm a member of a RHCP board and there's a Green Day appreciation section that shows more love than this place

Maybe they just want to fit in :o [the ones that bash them and such]

Alright, so you've made friends here and all, but what was the reason you came across this forum in the first place? Did you originally come here to look for gardening tips or what?

You wouldn't have met any of the people on here if you hadn't liked Green Day in the first place. So losing interest in them just because they aren't bringing a fuckin' album out every year isn't a very nice way of thanking them, now, is it?

I came here because I listened to Green Day, and wanted to promote my band. The band broke, I stayed. I come here now more for the craic than anything GD related.

I honestly dont agree that people saying bad stuff about them means we hate them or anything, some people here might hate them but the majority doesnt..and its Green Day that kinda should be thankful to the fans for being patient and waiting this long :/ Theyre still my number one band and they introduced me to the music i listen to so im very thankful to them, and theyll always remain my number one band.

I just dont think its a smart move what theyre doing right now .. althought a thought occured to me in the car today... XD ..

maybe theyre doing this..all this waiting business to get totally out of the AI era that got all the spasticated teenies after them and such?

Can't argue with the craic. Especially if your name is Stephen Gately.

ROFL!!!!!!!!

and.. one more thing to say.. the people that are saying .. "omg stop bashing them blah blah" in my opinion.. you're being very naive. I once was EXACTLY like you.. i saw people here being all... -_- against them so i stood up for them..beleive me as you get older and you change...so does your view on things, unfortunately

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Exactly it hasnt been 4 years, AI was released 2004, they toured til 2006, they had a year off, well deserved if you ask me, they spent a lot of 07 in the studio and we are led to believe they were headed bk in there this month.

One year to make a new album isn't anytime at all.

They stopped touring at the end of '05. I'll reiterate my point in saying that I don't really have a problem with them taking this long to put out an album. I just have a problem with them doing next to nothing to give any updates to their fans of what they've been up to the past two years. They've had tons of chances to talk directly to their fans (Idiot Club and GDA), just to give people anything and they haven't.

I know they've never been that public of a band, but I know they did a lot more by just giving simple updates (and the phone calls on greenday.com) between Shenanigans and American Idiot. It's just a bit disappointing that has stopped.

Well however people feel about Green Day, I still think this board is a positive place to speak your mind and talk with like-minded people. I mean, look, there's 36,000 members and even if only a small percentage of that use it, it's still enough people to justify it. And people don't come on here just because they have do, it's free will. So it's not a waste of time. And for those of us who are still positive about Green Day, GDA is a really fantastic source of information and trivia. Thanks to all the mods and admin, especially Andres, who must be feeling like a twat because Green Day haven't spoken to him. I wouldn't worry, it's not as if they've spoken to anyone else either, is it?

I agree with most people in this thread, its not that there is no album, its that we dont know how far along it is. Like last time we got an update (about October I think) was the Rolling Stone article (the actual article, not the interview) , which wasnt excactly insightful, or anything. And then there was the stuff about them returning to the studio in January. Well its January now, and they should just post a little message on the website saying something like "Hey, we are back in the studio now, ready to record...."

I still like Green Day, even if not as much as I did, I still have their albums on my iPod, and I will occasionaly listen to a random song, but, until the new album comes out, I wont listen to them as obsessivly as I did, but Green Day have, and hopefully always will have me as a fan. Even if there are many quiet patches, like now.

I can kinda see why they take several years before releasing albums. I know The Clash released an album in '77, '78, '79, '80, (non-stop touring in '81), and '82. By the end of 1982 they practically imploded. It's a miracle Green Day have stayed around as long as they have as a band. When the new album comes out, I'll probably just buy it just to complete collection up to that point, if that makes any sense. Whenever I come across one of their songs on my iPod, I listen for about 30 seconds then skip it. As for updates, it gets boring seeing just a scan of an article about them a few times a week. This hiatus is part of the reason I've lost interest and moved on.

SO what? quit complaining bc Green Day doesn't owe any of us shit! I love hearing about what recent charities they're supporting as oppose to album news tbh.

I think that after producing such a big body of work and giving us so much quality and variation, they should be allowed a little slack. Yes they should be updating websites and such and I'm not defending that, but it's not as if they've gone completely off the radar. Following AI was always going to be a mammoth task and I'm willing to bet that the recording process for this album has been extremely hard and they've had to hunker down and be a bit isolated to get it right. And yes, I really disliked the U2 collaboration and Lennon cover but at least they were for a good cause. Plus we have to remember that these guys aren't three teenagers whining about pot and wanking anymore, they're fathers with families and political views. I still fully support them and although I don't listen to them that often, it's still good to do once in a while.

My main feeling about Green Day is gratitude. They have been a really big influence on my life- how I think and how I see myself, and especially my music taste now. AI was the first album that really got me into proper music and I'll always look back on it. Thanks to Green Day, I'm not concerned with following trends or being what people want me to be, I'm me. I don't want to sound like a hysterical teenie but it's true. Thanks guys, I look forward to the new album, but a little communication once in a while wouldn't hurt, would it? :)

Brilliantly put . . . I agree wholeheartedly . . . except I sort of liked the U2 collaboration and the Lennon cover . . . :D

yes they did.

However they were still busy attending numerous award shows and appearances thru May 06.

I still enjoy their music but I have lost interest in them.

I seldom google Green Day to see how they're doing, for example.

However, a lot of people accuse them of selling out but I don't believe they have.

They're grown up, matured, and want a better future for their kiddies. Why do people bash them for that?

i've lost virtually all interest in them tbh

i'm not even that excited about a new album anymore.

i'll probably still buy it though whenever it's released.

but i've pretty much moved on.

listen to yourselves, your ripping on the band you joined this forumsite for,not to long ago they were heros of rock now this......

it's disgusting what people are saying, the new album will come out this year the band is the studio recording as we speak get a grip so what if they took 3 years off that's about how much you waited for AI and you didn't complain then and it was mostly because it was a really huge album, green day are my heros that's what they'll always be to me,you guys know damn well they will always be your heros,if green day wasn't as good this site would shut down tomorrow.Just think maybe this new stuff will be as big as AI or bigger. :)
