Mommy's Little Nightmare
I'm thinking the lack of updates on the new album could have to do with the fact that there isn't much to say about it. The few statements Billie has made about the new album have kind of led me to believe that he isn't really sure where it's going or what to do, and that he's lacking inspiration. So... maybe if that's the case, he doesn't feel much of a need to state that repeatedly. If he's at a loss for what to write, he probably has little to say about it since he, himself, doesn't even really know.
GregPGH
This band's first four albums are untouchable. That's just fact, but it's also history.American Idiot was a nice change of pace from Warning, but I couldn't stand the whole aesthetic that came with it. And while I support these dudes using their fame to bring attention to worthy causes, I can't help but feel that they have put on some sort of austere, distanced attitude in recent years--acting far too adult. I feel alienated from the band. Yeah, there is a time and place to be serious and a time and place to be goofy, but come on, dudes. I would like to see this band wear some colors other than black. I would like Mike Dirnt's hair to return to its normal color if it already hasn't. (Blue, green, or pink would be fine as well.) I'd like to see an end to silly, self-consciously romantic things like proposed album titles such as Cigarettes and Valentines. I would like to see this band get dumb again--maybe trash some more music stores and play drunkenly on TV. I mean, remember when moms and dads didn't want their eight year-olds listening to this band? Ugh. Who knows? Am I wrong, am I off-base entirely? Maybe, but these are just my perceptions, and I don't think I'm entirely alone in them.
1997
Yeah they have become boring old farts! lol!I hope there new album gives the mainstream the bird!I actually sent a message to the idiot club the other day expressing the fact that their site is now boring. I suggested they bring back Q&A and the audio messages (International Superhits era).I wonder if they have found it hard to come up with good material since american idiot there has been so much pressure on them to top it maybe they have cracked. That's why I want their new album to give the mainstream the bird. Beside the fact their moshpit is full of kids that say sorry if they touch you! shenanigans041
I totally agree with you,I've been thinking this for a while. It's totally unfair.I used to have so many Green Day posters in my room, now theres not very many at all.I'm really really disapointed in them.It takes like not even 5 minuetes to update.I used to be so obsessed, they were the only thing I listened to basically. Now,I hardly ever listen to them becuase I need new material.I'm sick of it.When I read that rolling stone article is sounded like he hasn't even tried and he didn't give us hope or anything for a new album. CarnageXB
I have removed all 300 of my green day songs off my ipod and replaced them with different music. Im not a big fan of green day any more. I dont listen to their music unless its on the radio in the car. I've moved on to different things. It does suck they haven't updated us on anything. Sure they release some side music to get us excited but that wears off. When their next album comes out I will most likely not be buying the album but will be downloading it [free]. They should have some free time to do that Q&A they said they would give us a while ago. I have lost resecot for them and they wont get that back from me. I just come here because I like the people here.
starbucksfreak
I still have the respect for them that i had when i first started liking them, simply because as cheesey as this sounds, they changed my life. So no matter what, im going to always have that love and respect for them
hardtoconcentrate
Sometimes this place confuses me. I get put off coming here sometimes due to the Green Day bashing that goes on. I mean, it's a Green Day forum....I come here to talk about a band I love! I'm a member of a RHCP board and there's a Green Day appreciation section that shows more love than this place
Donna Saint
I still have my posters in my room and I have all my 250 songs on my iPod but it's getting a little bitboring to listen to it all the time. If they haven't took so much time it wouldn't be boring at all. But I still love Green Day... But there should be new things soon

There seem to be a lot here who just enjoy knocking Green Day possibly because they know it winds people up. On the other hand they're entitled to their opinion if that's what they really think. Don't worry about it. There's still plenty of love for Green Day here as well.

Isabel
I'm not that bothered, tbh. I do wish they'd hurry up releasing the album, etc. etc. but it's not something I hold a strong grudge against or anything.Nothing out of the ordinary for a big band, really. *withoutadoubt*
For some reason you sounded like Lola from Charlie and Lola when I read that! heh, I understood that, lmao! It's sad actually that I understood that. I have to agree with Bonnie here - and I don't think what you said was cheesy at all. (Heh, or maybe my whole rant here will be the cheesiest thing ever!) They have had the same impact on my life, and I too, will always love and respect them and their music. I get something new out of their songs all the time, and I think that it will always be like that for me - I don't think there is an end to the depth of it, honestly. I do anxiously await any little bit of news, a picture, interview, whatever, but I also try to remember that they are regular people with regular lives as well. I am grateful for all the things we've gotten in between - the covers, the charity stuff, FHT music - to me, they are all like little gifts while we wait for the big one to arrive, and I am excited and thrilled with each and every one of these things. They do things because they want to, when they want to, when the time is right. Of course, we can all sit here and say what we would like them to do, what they should do, when they should do it, but I think partly of what makes Billie Joe, 'Billie Joe' is that he does what he wants and doesn't care about what others think about it. I also think of the pressure they are under, not only from fans, but from family stuff and from their own selves. I get impatient, sure! I would certainly love to see more stuff from them, but it'll come when it does - little things or big things. That just has to be ok because when you love something, when you truly love something, you understand and accept all of that. Sometimes, it's not easy, and it's downright frustrating, I'm sure, especially for you, Andres. The time, energy, and even money that you've put into this place is way beyond anything I can imagine. I'm sure I can speak for a lot of people here, tho, when I say that all of it is very much appreciated, even if it's not always said out loud. Anyway, lots said, not sure if any of it makes any sense, lol. As usual, I have a problem trying to get out what I wanna say. Ok, basically, I still love Green Day. Nova-Caine
Andres I can certainly see why you are frustrated. Being promised something and that not happening would be frustrating. I would think a brief update here or there wouldnt be out of the question. I still love green day and listen to them often. Just today I put my green day library on random at work and heard stuff I hadnt in a long time from all the albums. I still think their music is great. I dont feel like they owe me anything. They are massive now. Thats a fact. They cant help that. They cant operate the way they used to. AI may have been released in late 2004 but the hoopla from that didnt end until really spring of 06. If I toured like they did for 2 yrs, hit and played almost every award show for two years, and numerous other interviews and special events, and led that hectic life style I wouldnt be worth shit for awhile. So figure they take a year off puts them into sping 07. I cant really complain that they havent released anything yet. As they said, they need time to figure out what the hell had just happened to them, and to experience life so they have something to write about. I dont think they will release something that is just another piece of crap. So I imagine whatever it is and whenever it comes, will be worth the wait.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Exactly it hasnt been 4 years, AI was released 2004, they toured til 2006, they had a year off, well deserved if you ask me, they spent a lot of 07 in the studio and we are led to believe they were headed bk in there this month. One year to make a new album isn't anytime at all.Yes i'm frustrated, but only because i want everything yesterday. Maybe they could be a little better in their communication but they've always been shit like that, like Netty said it's nothing new. Remind me people didn't we get 6 free songs just before Christmas? Did they have to do that no they didn't. Ok so it wasn't GD but it was stuff that they'd been playing around with, maybe they thought they'd treat us and give us someting for free, something to get our teeth into whilst waiting for the next album. I can't remember the last time one of the major bands in the world just gave away free music. The IC is up for a major revamp soon, a photo shoot is apparently happening this month. We know they have at least 45 songs on the go.I don't want them to just give us something, i want them to make the best record they feel they can.I think 2008 is going to be an interesting year for us GD fans.I'm still as crazy about those 3 men as i was when i discovered them bk in 93, lyrically he's a genius, musically they are growing with every album, personally i just adore them.*sits patiently tapping fingers*

masshysteria1
I understand Andres' frustration, I've certainly felt it. But how do I feel about GD? Like they are the most talented, incredible, awesome band that exists. I adore them, I adore their music, no one comes close to them. I'll put up with the frustration of waiting and not getting updates. Fan for life.
masshysteria1
One other issue I forgot to address, GD bashers on this board. Yeah, you're entitled to your opinion, but why are you here? It makes no sense to me whatsoever. I can't imagine going to a website of a band I don't like. I can't imagine posting on a forum of some band I don't like. It just makes zero sense to me. Ingrid
Oh my, this thread is depressing. :/At least it's good to see some people staying positive, and I'm definitely gonna go stand in their little corner But I do understand your frustration, Andres, and I tend to agree with you, but I don't think the lack of updates qualifies as treating us badly - you should think that keeping fans intrested would be of their own intrest (if nothing else than at least financially), and if they choose not to, then that's their choice.I'm not liking it anymore than you but I don't really see why it would make anyone lose respect for them.If anything I guess it shows that they're not just in it for the money...I think the only thing you can really blame them for is when they promise to do something but never actually do it.Because that is pretty damn disappointing. justcause
The music is what's important. There is so much music out there that's disposable, trivial, and when I hear people talking about wanting something new and getting fed up with Green Day because they're not coming up with the goods quick enough, it makes me think that they're treating it like just another consumer product. I suppose it depends on whether you're looking to just be entertained, or to feed your soul from something real.

GuitarPlayer5
I will always love Green Day and their music, because they are what made me want to pick up an instrument.I will never turn my back on them when they come out with something different from their past material.I seen alot of people turn they're backs on them in 2004 and that sort of disgusted me.I'll never get tired of the guys.
