goodday
To be honest, i'm not that bothered ... I mean I really want the album and they are one of my favorite bands, but it doesn't really bother me how it's taking, I don't feel as though i'm owed anthing by them. Still, I can see why it would be frustrating for someone who is constantly having to update a website with no actual updates, and it wouldn't hurt them to get their backsides into gear and start giving their fans something to do in the meantime. I suppose after AI they just wanted to be as reclusive and quiet as possible ... maybe they were sick of seeing themselves everywhere.I think like you.... I would love to get their new album, but well, they take their time and its fine. Im still huge fan of them, but I never was obsessive, maybe thats why Im not so bothered. I love them and that is all I listen lots of another music, so Im not just 'waiting them for 4 years' hehe
communitykid
They've been going at it for a long time. I assume it's taken a lot from them. I bet it's a bit more disappointing to some of the long time fans, but for me, it's just some building anxiousness for new material. I think that my obsessive behavior over Green Day has grown since AI. I hated them when it was first released, and then I got into their older music, then after a while got into AI, and it's been 2 or 3 years and I'm still really into them. More now than ever actually.Disappointed about the lack of information? I suppose somewhat.
FilmAdaptation
Meh, I'll get an album when I get an album. I'm too laid back to care. However, I do agree that it takes virtually no effort to give an update from time to time.
The Disappearing Boy
its annoying that we haven't had much of an update from them. and it is taking a very long time to get this new album doen. (didn't they go into the studio august 06 or something) but i guess that when the album comes out, i'll get back into them again. its like the calm before the storm i guess. Robin105
I still love them. They are still my favorite band. I'm just a little pissed that they are taking so long with there new album. I'm still overobsessed with them. They have so many songs but it would be nice to hear some new music THAT THEY ACTUALLY WROTE!!!!!!
piratepalmer
I agree with Andres; I'm not so much bothered about the lack of new music, I have plenty of other great music to keep my ears happy - but an update from them wouldn't go amiss. Even if they could just show an interest in the fans and the fansite - I dunno, answering Q&A's (as long as the questions could be decent for a change) or judging a competition, something like that - we don't expect them to advise us of their daily life - just touch base with the fans.I would sack their management team for a fucking start. The Underbelly
Hmm, just after American Idiot-period was over I was curious and excited about which step would follow next. But two years have passed and I don't anticipate on it that much more. When it comes, it comes. In the mean time I keep myself busy with other bands and occasionally listen to their older songs. The reason why, maybe is described in Andres' post. But they are a band who make music, that is the reason why I got interested in the first place. The rest is just extra to profile themselves in other areas. Which is good and interesting at times, but not the core reason. So, the passion to find out what they're up to every second, faded away. But I'll be back to hear what they have to offer, when they pop out again.
communitykid
things green day has done since american idiot that have made me lose interest:-waited 4 (plus maybe) years between albums-recorded a fucking awful song with U2-desecrated a john lennon song-capitalized on the OMG BUSH SUCKS trend, and like brandon flowers and the lead singer of bloc party said, capitalized on the anti-american feelings of europeans.non green day things that have made me lose interest:-i like way, way better bands now than i used to-i'm not 11-12 and like songs about beating off-i'm not 13-14 and angry at the worldJust because the two covers they released didn't appeal to your music sense, doesn't mean they didn't try. All you're really saying is that you expect Green Day's music to grow as you do, which can't happen. Aside from that, they haven't really done anything that had anything to do with masturbation since, Dookie I think. Then "angry at the world" I assume is AI. There's a 10 year gap between those 2, and a 4 year gap between 11 and 14, so I really don't get what you're saying. They've waited 4 years between an album before. I don't really get you Shanks. FJ
Apathy on my behalf. If they released new stuff tomorrow, great. If they split up tomorrow, I wouldn't be massively upset. An update would be nice, but I'm not going to cry over it...
Countrygirl
Green Day has given us some. For example when they made the remastered versions of their albums and Foxoboro Hot Tubs songs (if it is them). Yes, I'm kinda getting bored with it all and want more news, but they still will be my favorite. My friend was saying bands like FOB, Hannah Montana, and Jonas Brothers don't give them any news at all. They have absolutely no connection with the fans and all they care about is money. At least, Green Day isn't all about money. Maybe Green Day kinda doesn't know what to tell the fans because it has been rough and the same old stuff. Most bands right now haven't written well-thought songs like Green Day has. Bands just want to go out there and get some money. Green Day is older and have been in the business for a long time. Most of these younger bands haven't been out there as long and are still feeling the rush on what it's like to be famous. Right now, Green Day feels like they don't want to get into the rush of the rap scene and be blamed as sell outs. When Green Day finds the right timing, they'll release the album. I know waiting can be hard, but I'm not giving up hope.
FJ
All you're really saying is that you expect Green Day's music to grow as you do, which can't happen.Seeing as the band is currently exploring music from a "middle aged" perspective, I think their music is growing with their fans pretty well. I mean, people who were around for Dookie (one of their albums before AI, Google it ) would have been roughly the same age as the band, so they'll have grown at the same sort of pace.I want the bastard hybrid of Warning, Nimrod, London Calling, and Sandinista.Green Day has given us some. For example when they made the remastered versions of their albums and Foxoboro Hot Tubs songs (if it is them). Most of the radio is not well-thought of songs like Green Day. Bands want to go out there and get some money. Green Day is older and have been for a long time. Maru
Gah...I have respect for them for their music and what the band means to me. If they aren't updating, so what, they need a break or whatever it is, it's not bothering me. I'm just waiting for a new CD to be released, whether is this year, or in 2012, I won't mind. justcause
I love Green Day. Although my love of music generally is extremely broad, they're the only band I've joined a fansite for, and I did that because I wanted to talk about this music that was setting me on fire. When people talk about being impatient for a new album, I feel like - you know when Billie Joe says about JOS, 'you can't just say this is a catchy tune' - it's not like that, it has so much depth and dimension. It's not music that gets 'old' - I love it for itself, but I also learn from it all the time. Just this morning, I was reading thru the AI book and realising yet again how big it is, how full of emotion and ideas - there's just nothing else that gives me what Green Day does. They didn't do the Q&A, but Billie Joe's Rolling Stone interview had a lot more substance than Q&As generally produce. He talks in terms of his journey as an artist and a human being, and loving the music means respecting that journey and whatever space and distance it requires. In terms of getting something back, Stop Drop and Roll was the coolest Christmas gift ever. As regards the causes they support and bring to our attention, well, the only reason to support any of that is because you decide those causes are something you can believe in, not just because Green Day say so. Of course I can understand your frustration at a string of broken promises, and the fact that the band seemed to communicate more in the past. Maybe they will again in the future, but right now they don't seem to want that. I dunno - does this all boil down to 'just the music is not enough'? Countrygirl
Think about this: how many questions and answers do you think they've gotten? Millions? If you got that many Q&A, wouldn't you be overwhelmed with everything that's going on like making the album, feeding the family, doing magazine shoots, and keeping up with your fans at the same time? hardtoconcentrate
I still love them as much as the day I started to love them 9 years ago. Lack of updates or music does not bother me in the slightest. There are tons of other brilliant bands out there to keep me occupied until a new Green Day record is released. I could go for weeks without listening to Green Day but it doesn't make me any less of a fan. What updates do some people want anyway? Are they not off and spending time with their families? The band are having a break and so we won't be getting any updates until they start working again. Just relax, listen to other music and just look forward what they have to offer in the future
