Guest 16PaperLanterns
I still like them. But it's almost the kind of way I like some single on the radio by a band who's album I have no plans on buying. :/

Trotsky
They're lazy not doing shit, as far as I'm concerned it's just like they've broke up 2 years ago.
woahinez
I honestly don't really care about them anymore. I still like them but in a way that doesn't really mean anything, kinda like how Roz said. i'm just like whatever...if they make a new album then cool and if they don't then whatever. Trotsky
I think the new album will be exactly like The Black Parade. A total disappointment when you think of what could have been, but it will be the most popular thing anyway. The difference is MCR is still young and fresh and Green Day's glory days are long gone. Sing about death, dying, the afterlife, murder, etc. Just because The Black Parade was a rock opera doesn't mean it was anything 'fresh'. It was the same deal they've been doing. You may not think Green Day's very good and that their 'glory days are long gone' but at least they know how to reinvent themselves and do something different from things they've done in the past. Like it or not, and like them or not, they do at least know how to change it up, and that, in itself, is something fresh.
Laura33
I still love Green Day, I do. I have waited for them before and I will wait for them again. I am not gonna get myself all frustrated over lack of updates because to be honest, there was never that much before. Sure we had the voice posts (ahhhh remember those?) but thats it and we got those once in a blue moon and before them we had nothing. I don't expect anything from them. Because I know that once the next album gets released they will bust their asses touring so fans can see them live.

Milan.
Laura33=trufan OMFG who are you to decide whos a true fan or whos not a true fan.seriously, arent we allowed to grow up or mature, maybe even change music tastes or is that a fucking sin according to you.Green Day isnt the be all, end of all in the music scene.there thousands or more bands that are just as good as they are.im not being mean but seriously compared to 2 years ago, im 3 quarters less of a GD fan now then i was then.im not trying to be mean or anything, but you cant fucking decide whos a true GD fan or not.for most of us they have been put aside for now until they release new music, or weve gotten over them

Because I know that once the next album gets released they will bust their asses touring so fans can see them live.I agree. The guys do bust their asses, and they've stuck to their morals about their ticket prices too. They always said that they'd keep their prices affordable and never let them get jacked up. They've stuck to that. For being as big as they are, they could charge ridiculous amounts of money for tickets and people would pay it. But they don't. There are artists out there that charge crazy amounts of money for it. Bands pay for their own tours, and those cost alot. They could profit a hell of alot more if they jacked their prices up, and yet they haven't. Not to mention how generous and good to their fans they are. They don't update? Who the hell cares? When fans come up to them, they're nothing but polite. I mean, imagine how often they have people pestering them on the streets. When they're out with their families. Ever heard people talk about them being rude? I mean, Billie Joe was being pestered when he took his kids to see Hannah Montana. According to the person that posted it, he was nothing but nice. He could have been an asshole. You want Green Day to give back? They do. Just not in the way you want. Being nice to the constant fans going up to them is a way they give back and show that they care. Not jacking up their ticket prices so they're affordable to fans who want to see them is giving back and showing that they care. When they release an album and their fans love it and feel the guys have inspired them or helped them in some way, they've given back. They know damn well that their fans are what helps them continue making a living off of their music, and they show respect to their fans because of that.So maybe they aren't telling us exactly what they're doing very often. What about all the other things they have done for the fans? In what way is that becoming disconnected? Big deal. We don't know what's going on in the studio. We'll know what was going on when their next album drops, now won't we?
Vanessa
Green Day will always have some kind of value to me I think, even if I do eventually stop listening. They're the band who taught me to be myself, and not just follow the crowd and be try to be cool. If it weren't for them, I really would not be the same person I am now. These are the guys who introduced me to a whole new world of music. If I never found Green Day, I never would have gotten my obsessiveness over music. I bought my first Green Day CD when I was around 11. That was the first CD I had bought since my pop music-stage when I was younger. I now have tons of CDs. To think that if I hadn't bought that one CD, I never would have been turned to the whole kind of music that I like now. Music is basically what my whole life revolves around now. I'm always listening to music, playing it, talking about it, learning about it, etc. At some points, music was almost the only thing keeping me in this world. I know that sounds corny, but it's true. Music was, and is, always there for me, even if no one else is. There's always something that I can connect to in the music. Something that tells me that someone has felt the same way I have, or has been in a similar situation. It gives that sense to me that I'm not alone. Music also has provided with some of the most amazing nights of my life. I've been to amazing concerts that were tons of fun, and gave me tons of memories. They also have made it possible for me to meet people that I look up to. Now to think, I would have none of that in my life if it weren't for Green Day really. I would have basically a whole other life. I wouldn't have any of that, I wouldn't have found this forum which has some amazing people on it. Hell, I don't know if I'd even be alive.I still listen to Green Day today. Sure, I don't still have that extremely-overly-obsessive feeling about them, but with all I know about them, the amount of posters on my wall that I still continue to add to, and the amount I talk about them in my everyday life, I guess I'm still obsessed in a way. I still love their music tons. I still am excited to hear their music on the radio. Maybe not all the American Idiot hits so much, since they were overplayed on the radio before, but like, their older stuff. I still am happy to find them on TV. I'm happy to hear them randomly come on in stores and stuff... I still read a lot of the Green Day related threads on here, and read GDA updates when there are some. As for them not updating us on really anything at all, I'm kind of torn. Part of me says that they are trying to die down a bit to avoid some of the big commotion that happened with AI. Another part of me says they're being lazy asses by not doing anything. And the other part says that I should just let them take their time and do what they want because honestly, I don't know what they're really doing now. Sure they could be being lazy, but it could be a lot deeper too, like more than we know about. I don't know what they did on their break, and I don't think anyone else here really does either. I mean, we know the stuff where they went into the public but that's about it. They could be sitting around, or they could be doing a lot more. I never will know what's occupying them, and what has occupied them during this long break.I hope a new album comes out this year and that's really all I can do. Until then I can relisten to the old stuff, and occupy myself with other music too.I hope what I said makes sense because I'm not re-reading it all . I'd be surprised if anyone reads it all actually haha.
Fuzz
I'd just like to make the point to clarify that I have no big issues with their music, nor with the legnth of time they are taking to release new stuff. I can understand completly, and respect, that they will take as long as they feel they need to release new material. Their music has also had a great impact on my life, and they have my full respect for that.I just think they could have tried a wee bit harder to give something to their fans. Not because they owe it to us, but because they want to give something to the thousands of people who care about what they're up to.

Not because they owe it to us, but because they want to give something to the thousands of people who care about what they're up to.Yeah, but the thing is- from the few things Billie Joe has said- they aren't up to much. They've got a bunch of songs, most of which have been written on piano/keyboard, etc. If they're still at that point now, it wouldn't be very interesting to update us on anyway.I completely understand why you're annoyed about the Q&A. That was promised. I don't blame you at all for that. But what's annoying me here is all the people slamming Green Day for various reasons. I could care less if they don't like Green Day or whatever. But some of the things being said are quite absurd and idiotic.Besides, weren't there supposed to be some updates and whatnot this month? There's still half a month left for them to make good on that.

The difference is MCR is still young and fresh and Green Day's glory days are long gone.I disagree with you entirely. Had Green Day been looking for the popular thing and put out material just for the sake of having a number 1 album, they would have released it much sooner. They know that by waiting 4 years, they're going to be falling behind a lot of the hype that would have been had they released it only two years after AI.Besides, weren't there supposed to be some updates and whatnot this month? There's still half a month left for them to make good on that.Even if they do that (which i'm not holding my breath for), that'll still only be one or two updates within the past year. It's not like we're asking them to give us a detailed essay of what they're doing. Just a simple update "We're back in the studio, we've recorded __ songs. We're looking forward to showing you guys stuff later this year" blah blah, whatever. Just anything at all. That doesn't take any time at all and it's doesn't need to be some calculated PR thing either.

IBYMBYBMYL and Three Cheers sounded slightly different, The Black Parade has a different sound- but still the same damn theme. It's stale. How many albums can a band really write about the same shit before it starts to get old, I mean really...Even if they do that (which i'm not holding my breath for), that'll still only be one or two updates within the past year. I mean, it would be cool to know what's going on, but it's not going to kill me not to know either. Really, all I care about hearing from them is the next album, whenever it may be released. And I do like hearing about the charities they're a part of, because it shows that instead of just bitching about things that bother them in the world, they'll try to do something about it. Practice what they preach, if you will.
Vanessa
Sorry to be off-topic, but MCR albums aren't about the same thing and do not sound the same. If you understand what each album is about truely, you'd see that. Yeah, TBP has the topic of a dying cancer patient, but it's so much more than that. It's not like it's just about death in general. It's a story. Revenge and Bullets have some death related songs I guess but they albums themselves are not about death necessarilyBut whatever. To each their own I guess.
