Fuzz
How do you guys feel about the band now? I'm sure a lot of us aren't as "obsessive" as when American Idiot came out, but how do you feel the past 3 years since the last album came out?I gotta admit, I lost some respect for the guys. This total lack of updates and semi-veil of secrecy with everything is a major turn-off because it feels like they've given fans next to nothing to keep them interested. I mean, even after Warning they still gave the occasional random update on greenday.com until American Idiot was announced and got close to being released. I still listen to the music about once a week, and am still waiting anxiously for new material. I just feel like they totally ruined an easy oppurtunity to keep their new fans interested in them. To me, they're losing (or lost) that quality I liked before when I first got into them, that they seemed like normal guys just having a good time, who at least gave the fans some reason to keep paying attention during the time they weren't on tour. I've said it before that they totally blundered the whole Idiot Club thing, and when I was asked to help out with their new site I was really looking forward to getting this point across. But, i haven't talked to them since early December, gotten no update - and the update I did get and posted up I was told to remove because "we like to stay tight-lipped about everything." That really kinda just pushed me over the edge with them. Cause i'll be honest, I've never done this job with the expectation to get anything out of it from the band. It was a huge plus that their manager contacted me. But every time I've asked for an update, or they promised to do the Q&A's they just fall through. It's really damned annoying. And i just wanted to vent about it. I look around my room and see all the posters and realize all the time I've spent the past 4 years working on GDA and wonder if it'll ever be worth it. The band is not interested in it's fans on even a basic simple level of just sending an email once or twice a year letting us know whats going on (aside from their charity stuff, which i think is a bit ridiculous. Why should we care what charity they're supporting if thats the only time they want to speak up. If they feel that they don't owe us anything aside from their music, they why should they assume anyone cares to give them anymore than their $12 for the album). They set the bar so low for what they've given us that anything minor thing seems like such a huge accomplishment.
Haydée
:/ i'm kinda dissapointed..i just can't understand why they are taking SO LONG TIME..and on the way.. nothingi was so excited when the foxboro hot tubs stuff.. i was like yay new stuffs.. but it's like.. they're not the same.. and if they're.. they don't let us know..! Jewels!
I'm definitely not as obsessive as I was before. I thought Green Day was the best fucking band ever a couple years ago. Now, they're just okay to me. I'm so sick of waiting without any updates at all. I know they're people, and they have families they love and want to be with. Staying "tight-lipped" on everything they're doing won't exactly keep fans interested if they remain that way for YEARS. If they'd update a little more, it would give fans a little something to hold on to and anticipate.
saurus
I used to be a Green Day obsessive. Now I could probably be referred to as just a fan. My room is covered with Green Day posters, sometimes I wonder why. :/
snaredrummer9
i still love them with every bone in my body. but since they don't have a new record out yet i can't say i'm nutty for them right now. i'm a nutty fan waiting for the new album....yeah that's a good way to put it..... The Malcontented One
I only really got into Green Day around 2 years ago so i'm still getting the old albums and listening to the old material. It would be nice to hear some new stuff though. But seeing as i havent heard all of their albums yet i'm not bored or anything. I think they're one of the best bands ever but that might be because i'm a relatively new fan.
Agija
I'm not as obsessive as I was 2 or 3 years ago, but still love them.Well, I understand they had to take a rest, but it has taked too long time.I want something new.I can't believe they don't care the fans. There is nothing for it but waiting for some news. Mato
I'm still their sick fan. I listen their music every day. It is kinda anoying they haven't released new material yet, but it will be worth of waiting when it comes out. I believe their new album will air somewhere in autumn this year. Trotsky
They've pretty much sold out. Look, you can love their music, but the band has really become corporate rock and that's all there is to it.
netty
I have to say, the secrecy thing goes back way before AI. yes, it can be incredibly frustrating. I`ve lost my temper in the past, in fact totally blown my top over things I see as "issues". and got little if no answer from anybody. whatever we think/expect from them.... they do what they want to. its up to fans to decide if they arent fulfilling their "obligation" to us. the only time they have every made any kind of commitment to fans is with the idiot club "monthly q & a" that is the only time I think we could maybe say they went back on their "word" I`m not saying the idiot club wasnt a mistake. that things werent done badly. just about everybody who has ever been a member has had complaints about the way the place has been run. I dont think my opinion has changed that much over the last few years. I still have things that annoy the hell out of me. but then I`m still on the forums, still enjoying the music, still waiting for the next tour/album. farley drexel hatcher
To be honest, i'm not that bothered ... I mean I really want the album and they are one of my favorite bands, but it doesn't really bother me how it's taking, I don't feel as though i'm owed anthing by them. Still, I can see why it would be frustrating for someone who is constantly having to update a website with no actual updates, and it wouldn't hurt them to get their backsides into gear and start giving their fans something to do in the meantime. I suppose after AI they just wanted to be as reclusive and quiet as possible ... maybe they were sick of seeing themselves everywhere.
armatageshanks
things green day has done since american idiot that have made me lose interest:-waited 4 (plus maybe) years between albums-recorded a fucking awful song with U2-desecrated a john lennon song-capitalized on the OMG BUSH SUCKS trend, and like brandon flowers and the lead singer of bloc party said, capitalized on the anti-american feelings of europeans.non green day things that have made me lose interest:-i like way, way better bands now than i used to-i'm not 11-12 and like songs about beating off-i'm not 13-14 and angry at the world
BlueDays
I think I was most obsessive when I got Dookie for Christmas in middle school [though the album came out about 6 years earlier at that point]. When American Idiot came out, though, it was just really bad timing in my life because I was trying to avoid anything remotely depressing and a lot of the songs made me feel depressed. Their more upbeat songs were enjoyable, but I was kind of looking for stuff like they had on Dookie
Anja
I can´t describe my feelings about them. It´s even hard to explain it to myself. Some positive, unfortunately some negative.
midlfecrysis
I miss them!!! I admit that I am dissappointed that there hasn't been word about a new CD by now. I was patient for awhile, but now I'm a bit annoyed to be honest.

I seldom listen to them; I've kinda moved onto a different style of music and bands, but I still keep an eye on them.I basically wish they'd stop fooling around with side projects and gave us some new Green Day material or at least some updates. I'm also fed up with all that secrecy.I also wish they'd drop by at least once more so that I could see them, because they haven't been here in ten years; but anytime they've been close to sealing the deal, they've found more appealing venues, jeez.[/rant]

MrGreenDayUK
I think that after producing such a big body of work and giving us so much quality and variation, they should be allowed a little slack. Yes they should be updating websites and such and I'm not defending that, but it's not as if they've gone completely off the radar. Following AI was always going to be a mammoth task and I'm willing to bet that the recording process for this album has been extremely hard and they've had to hunker down and be a bit isolated to get it right. And yes, I really disliked the U2 collaboration and Lennon cover but at least they were for a good cause. Plus we have to remember that these guys aren't three teenagers whining about pot and wanking anymore, they're fathers with families and political views. I still fully support them and although I don't listen to them that often, it's still good to do once in a while. My main feeling about Green Day is gratitude. They have been a really big influence on my life- how I think and how I see myself, and especially my music taste now. AI was the first album that really got me into proper music and I'll always look back on it. Thanks to Green Day, I'm not concerned with following trends or being what people want me to be, I'm me. I don't want to sound like a hysterical teenie but it's true. Thanks guys, I look forward to the new album, but a little communication once in a while wouldn't hurt, would it? Fuzz
I really don't have much of an issue with them taking 4 years between album. I understand that well. My problem is the fact that in between those 4 years they've given us shit.It doesn't take much at all to say "Here's what we're doing now"
Khaleesi.
They used to be my favourite band. Now I hardly listen to them as much.I'm kinda disapointed in the way they treat their fans. It's not that hard to just give everyone an update on how they're doing, even if very little has changed since the last update.
gdp
i agree with you Andres, although i dont like to think that Green Day doesnt care about the fans you know.. but maybe it might be true and if so it sucks. I like other bands too, and i hate to compare but i feel that other bands appreciate more their fans than Green Day, but i still love them and i don't care, they'll still be my favourite band. right now im not as obsessed as i was 2 years ago or even 1 year ago, i rarely listen to them now, and i'm not as interested in them as i was, because i dont know what's going on with them! and it is very dissapointing. I'm not even very excited about the new albumAndres, you shouldnt start thinking that all of the work youve done on GDA wasnt worth it, because it was, you know fuck Green Day, but youve done a lot of work for all of us, the fans and i think you should keep doing it! chickin'pickin'
jesus christ, AMEN.Green day have been a disappointment to me since AI. Man, even that record wasn't that great, with it it seems that they fully confirmed themselves as a commercial band. And since then all we've had is quite frankly shite covers of already bad songs, but they've done well because of some kind of morality thing they've got going on now. it's BULLSHIT, this kind of attitude does not suit Green Day one bit, even if you argue that they are growing up. They've come across as the three stoner punks for so long what with songs about masturbation, and cross dressing and such, that reinventment is just as out of place as OJ Simpson at a KKK meeting. "we are in the studio".... "we`ve gone on holiday" "we`re back in Billies basement screwing around".... the more so called "news" that is given out the more pressure they get from fans and from the press to give out dates for album releases and crap like that. thats probably the worst thing for them while they are trying to work out what is going on in their lives, what they want to do musically... I seriously wouldnt want to be in their position because I wouldnt be able to keep my mouth shut.
