All 6 of them had talking at the beginning. But now when you download from the website now, there is no talking on any of them. Copyright issues, probably.

UGH! Why do people keep saying that?!?! And I know it's not you, Skippy, you were just quoting the radio people... but seriously! When has Green Day ever felt any need to "test" their music with the public before releasing an album or deciding what direction to go? They are going to do their thing no matter what, they always have and they always will. It also frustrates me so much when people say that Money Money 2020 was compiled of songs that "weren't good enough" for American Idiot, or that Reprise Records rejected the album. That's so friggin' stupid. That was not a Green Day record, there were so many themes of technology and sexual overtones. It was so obviously written seperately from Green Day's material, I just don't understand why people don't get it.

And now, how can anyone say that these Foxboro songs aren't good enough for a new Green Day record and that's why they've been released like this? First of all, the songs are fantastic. Second, the themes and writing style with both the music and the lyrics aren't Green Day. That's what makes it a side project. And I know that Green Day can and will write different types of songs and lyrics spanning many different topics, but this was just so intentionally 60's.

Lastly, for those who still doubt that this can be a Green Day side project (or at least Billie Joe), have another listen to On the Wagon, Last Ride In, and their cover of Tired of Waiting for You. Yes Billie's vocals are very different on this new EP, but again, it's intentionally 60's and intentionally not Green Day.

*takes a breath*

That was a great speech there! You brought up a lot of good points, I agree with you totally --- Although I am athinking of one possibility; Which makes me feel a bit nervous.

What if Green Day don't release such songs as Green Day, because they're worried that everyone'll go, 'What's this rubbish?! This isn't Green Day!'

This way, they release it under a 'secret' identity, and no one can touch them.

Y/N?

Oh, and holy fuck ... I didn't know Tired Of Waiting For You was a cover. Jesus Christ running a hot dog stand, I'm lame.

Green Day wouldn't care if people liked their music. The fans- yes. But apart from them, Green Day couldn't give two hoots.

True, definitely.

I meant us fans though, when I said 'people'. ^^;

Am I the only one who doesn't get that excited over it..? I know, weird, I should be excited, but I'm just not. I mean yes, that's nice and surprising, but not that much...

Or it's just me :)

I definitely would have loved the music if it hadn't been Green Day related. It's fantastic. I wouldn't be quite as excited by it, since part of the excitement comes from what I already know and love about Green Day, and the fact that it's so different from (yet so like) everything they've done before.

I know what you mean about being scared to release it as Green Day because they'd be afraid people wouldn't like it... and I can see that being definitely an issue, but I don't think it even matters, because this stuff was free. They aren't getting any money for it, for certain, (so people couldn't say it would be a way to get money in for that stuff without losing money as Green Day or what have you) but more than that, I can see how they would want to separate the different kinds of feelings that they have, and since there isn't enough of that stuff to make a record, and it would kind of throw off people who actually like Green Day's style (meaning the whole package, the sound, the image, the content of what the songs are about, etc) and it would seem kind of out of place. Of course, alternatively, they could have chosen not to put it out at all, for fear of bad reputation or whatever (since it can be pretty sure that even if they never confirm their association with Green Day, most people will pick up on it and form opinions about Green Day based on it)

Billie Joe talked about not knowing where to take the next record, what direction to go in, and it might be a part of that. Meaning that there are a lot of things that they have written, but they have a few directions they'd like to go and don't know how to carry it. It could be that this was one of those directions but it felt too much a departure from what they're used to (not in the way that they wouldn't want to put it out, but just that it wouldn't really make sense or fit, if that makes sense... like putting a pink puzzle piece where the surrounding area is blue... and it wouldn't fit with whatever else they wrote, too...) and it wasn't enough to fill an album, but they just wanted to get it out... and / or they wanted to get something out without going through the whole process of all of the publicizing and promotional stuff and touring.

I like the blow job theory.

As for the lyrics, they seem to me to have a great big "Billie Joe" stamped on them, particularly Ruby Room and Mother Mary and Red Tide. "as the Pabst Blue Ribbon unravels" for instance... "dirty floors and sticky tables for the willing and the able"... those are the ones that I can think of right now but they seem to be very distinct to me.

Thank you, although sometimes it seems like I'm still not able to get my point across.

now that i think about it.. this is f'n genius by green day. the figured out how to release Green Day songs for free on the web without any record label backlash. just start a different band with no label (or billie's own label) and give the songs out for free.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking about as well. Cause i wonder if their contract has anything about them releasing material for free? Maybe it wouldn't matter if it was produced by the label (cause then they wouldn't lose money it) but who knows...
