if this is green day (havent listened yet... but im dlding the songs now... ), mabey they are doing something similar to what the living end have did once...

they played a few gigs under a different name and played some songs off their album they were going to release (i think this was before state of emergency...)

so mabey this is a similar case... GD releasing songs under a different name, to see what the fans think...

i honestly don't think they would take such a drastic change in style if it really was green day.

I'm exactly like that. It's hard. I listen to Green Day a lot, but I feel really sad when I don't because I'm all hopped up listening to new and "exciting" things. All love & excitement starts all over again when something new comes out. I was the same between Warning & AI...

Yeah, exactly. I think that me playing Foxboro Hot Tubs to death is a result of my desperately wanting to hear anything new from Green Day. Even if Mike and Tre aren't in it, which I believe that they ARE, it's still Billie Joe, and it's not a cover song. I loved WCH and The Saints are Coming, but I wanted something original, and this is. It's got me so hyped up for new Green Day though.

At least it shows that there's actually songs being written though. I know alot of people were losing faith and thinking that the guys weren't doing ANYTHING. This does prove that there's something. Maybe not the next Green Day record something, but songs are being written, things are being recorded, and they're working towards it.

That's not a half bad theory, there... I don't know if that's the case because these songs are quite different from previous Green Day stuff-- They have synths, rockabilly-esque sound, some riffs that sound a little TOO close to other songs, etc... I doubt this is a "test sample".

Now, I hate to say this to a fellow pastaferian (as noted by your sig), but PLEASE try and spell "maybe" properly... it's distracting ><

Yeah, but Green Day HAVE been busy bees whether most people notice it or not. They have so many side projects on their hands, and they have their families. I don't mind waiting because I know it'll be worth it in the end :)

It's still a bit odd that they would have the music up for download, though.

Perhaps this is somewhat of a Green Day/Pinhead Gunpowder kind of relationship.

I don't think it'll ever be released as Green Day.

I'm standing firmly by my belief that when Billie Joe said he had 3 albums worth of material, each of which taking a different direction, this is one of the directions that they chose to scrap for Green Day, but still wanted to release. So, Foxboro Hot Tubs came about as a way for it TO be released. Free. Just in time for the holidays too.

Could also be a way of saying "Look, we know it's taking forever, but we ARE doing something. We just aren't sure where we want Green Day to go yet. Here's proof that we are working on it though."

Alright so I've been reading some posts from the beginning and from recently. I agree with people that they might just be doing another side band type thing, theres nothing wrong with that, their weirdness just makes me love them more. I think this new band is amazing, their music is really catchy. The first time I heard their music, I smilied and thought: They are back...

Oh, and I don't think it matters that their style is different. I mean the networks style was a lot different from green days and this is just another type of style. They could just be expermenting with what they want to do or something. I really don't know. All I know is that I'm taking advantage of this music because I like it.

One more thing, I also have been listening to green day less and less since all the american idiot buzz went away. I just got bored and wanted to listen to more so I got into a lot of ska and stuff. I will never stop liking them though, and it could just be that since they haven't been putting any stuff out, maybe thats why people have been getting bored of them. Its making sense in my head at least..

The thought of a Christmas present from them is quite nice. I don't know if that's what it is... but I mean, they have had that MySpace since October, and we're just now hearing about them, and being able to download their songs for free. So... could be that, and a mixture of some other things too.

it doesn't make sense to me why people are saying it's Green Day. it may have members of Green Day in it, but it's a different band. i hope that isn't what Green Day's new album sounds like. and i doubt it will.

Again: I don't think it's Green Day. I think it's a direction Green Day contemplated going in, chose not to, but still wanted to release. So Foxboro Hot Tubs came about as a way to release it. I mean, is that really so far-fetched?

I doubt Green Day's new album will sound like this...it's MUCH too different. Different STYLE entirely.

Nope. Very likely that's the case. Awesome that they're trying out things like this, though. I mean, you have to expect someone like Billie to try something else atleast a LITTLE. People don't only like ONE STYLE of music. It just doesn't fit with GREEN DAY's sound.

Exactly. I mean, I remember hearing that a while back, I think it was between Nimrod and Warning, that Billie Joe was uninspired and spending time working with and writing with a country artist to try to get inspiration. If that really is the case, obviously experimentation isn't something he's afraid to do. Hell, listen to how Green Day has changed over the years. Experimentation is a big part of them.

Maybe to them this wasn't cut out to be 'Green Day' material, but still something they were proud of, liked, and still wanted for it to be heard.

It's definitly worth hearing. xD I know that Billie & Mike (not as sure about Tre) like MANY different styles of music. I've heard them say they like so many different kinds. And they've been experimenting even MORE since Nimrod because they're at that stage in their life.

And I, personally, love it. You can't stand someone when everything sounds alike. That's why I get annoyed when I hear people say "go back to Dookie/Kerplunk!, etc.." They'll hate them if they change, and they'll hate them if they don't. You can't please these people, and obviouslt, Green Day don't care for trying. They write music that makes them happy. And experimenting is a big part of it.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but, you guys remember the chocolate rain video Tre did and at the end he yells "You're doing it fucking wrong!" That makes so much sense now.

Well, I think Tre might like different kinds of music too. I know he seems to like rap quite a bit, actually. I don't know about anything else, but I'm sure there is other stuff.

And some of these FHT songs sound Beatles-esque, and I know Green Day likes the Beatles, so being inspired by the Beatles is always a possibility as well.

Yeah, I noticed that! made me giggle at the clues!

They always seem to go for a Beatles melody... but I'm really psyched about Stop Drop & Roll because of that rockabilly sound. *is huge fan of rockabilly* It's very Brain Setzer.

That's true, but not quite so much as in Mother Mary and Red Tide. They sound like they almost could have been Beatles songs. And I've never really given rockabilly a listen, but from what I have heard, it does seem to fit that genre. And oddly enough, I'm loving all the screaming Billie's doing. I've heard him do it before, but not quite like he is here, and definitely not as much. Screaming isn't something I'm a huge fan of, but it works so well and sounds so good here.
