clusterbomb
^no problem mate. he said in an interviw in BASS magazine that he used to use sunn amps and wanted fender to make him some new 1s or something.
Marie_GD
Billie used a Jack Hammer Marshall pedal back in the days to get the BIG Marshall amps sound on his smaller ones(sorry I don't know the name of those big stadium amps in english.) Mitch-PTV
^^ marshall stackthe amp bilie is using a few posts up is defenatly not a marshall. i kinda looks like a fender bassman, but i doubt it.
Peter.
Pretty sure Billie was using a Marshall. Isn't that the one named Pete?Yeah i think he used Pete.I could be wrong with Billie's amp, so don't quote me on it..But it kinda' looks like 'YAMAHA'.. I'm still having difficulties with Mike's..Yeah it looks like Billie's says Yamaha
Fuzz
I hope this would help. The PETE marshall was first used for the dookie tour.Could have sworn i saw a picture of him with it setup in a house somewhere. I thought that would have been before Dookie. Jipster
No, it cant be. You could have seen some other marshall, but the PETE amp, I don't think so. They recorded dookie with Rob's amp which later was named dookie, I think. The PETE amp was a replica of that dookie amp.
randomness
^aww, i thought it was funny how Billie named one of his amps but the PETE makes me think it stands for something. oh well
Pixelman04
During the Kerplunk days Billie used a Marshall JCM 900 Head. Marie_GD are you sure he used that pedal? He's always said that he didn't like pedals.
Pineapple
what benefit would you get from knowing what amps they used over 15 years ago.truely
Pixelman04
I think it's interesting. Whenever I see Billie with a new guitar or something that I don't recognize I look up the specs on it. Plus if you want to match their sound, the best way to do it is to use what they have.
GregPGH
Regardless of what you play, everyone should buy a Sunn for at least the three following reasons:1.) They are cheap.2.) They are indestructible.3.) They are loud.Old Peavey heads from the '80s satisfy these criteria as well.
Sugar Demon
I also think Billie's amp head is a Yamaha given the badge placement and the grill cloth having that vertical pattern. The cabinet that Mike is playing through is definitely an Acoustic, looks like a model 105. (Acoustic was an amp company that was popular in the early 70s. Not a very inspiring amp. Solid state amps tried to replace tube amps at the time, but the sound was sterile.) The head Mike is playing through also bears some resemblance to an Acoustic head because of the short and deep cabinet and the handle on the side, but I don't recognize the faceplate. Here's a 105.BTW, you selected smartasses quit giving this guy a hard time because he asks a question. It doesn't matter if it seems trivial or irrelevant to you. It's called the Green Day AUTHORITY for a reason. When someone asks an intelligent Green Day question (& it was), no one wants to hear "Well, why do you want to know?" None of your god damn business. If you know the answer or have something to contribute, go ahead. If you don't, butt out and go terrorize the threads on Billie's mascara. Fuckin' morons. rootbeersoup
I remember seeing pictures of Billie with some sort of Marshall halfstack behind him when they were playing somewhere and he had really long hair. He may have been using hiwatts, but I'm only throwing that out there because I remember reading something somewhere that he used them at one point and Pete Townsend of The Who used Hiwatts, so Billie might have used them as well. Zynester
im sure if u got any decent marshall amp u'd be able to get the sound billie had back then (might help having a seymour duncan pick up. i think billie had a Jeff Beck installed in blue. he might have changed it to another) i'm not good with bass guitars though, but i think mesa boogie are really good just play bout with the settings n stuffwhat do you like bout the sound they had back then? It's really easy to get the Warning (onwards) sound but rather dear!Billie has a signature guitar by GibsonMike has a signature bass by fenderTré has signature drum sticks and drum kit (not sure if its still on sale. it was made by Slingerland though. i think his new kit is made by Ludwig. i could be wrong tho)

dan2002
I'm positive during the Kerplunk era billie used JCM900 stacks. Before that i'm not too sure, but i'd bet on a marshall of some sort.
Pixelman04
From watching the shows that I have I'm fairly certain that he didn't use Marshalls before Kerplunk. I don't know what brand it was though. I know it was a combo amp (a amp where the speakers and amp are part of the same unit). You can tell this by looking at old pics from Gilman St.
Marie_GD
During the Kerplunk days Billie used a Marshall JCM 900 Head. Marie_GD are you sure he used that pedal? He's always said that he didn't like pedals.I'm pretty sure.Yeah he doesn't (me neither), but that's not too much of a pedal, it's more to get a better and heavier distortion actually, have you ever used it? localinsomniac
Why are there so many douchebags on this forum?Oh right, half of you are underclassmen. Taking the piss out of people will still be the cool thing to do for another 3-5 years. The person had a question. What does it matter why they want to know? If you don't know, that's fine. But don't make them feel like they're wrong for wanting to know.To the thread starter, I'm sorry. I wish that I could answer your question. You're right about Blue and the Peavey, though.Getting ready for the shit storm that will inevitably follow this post.
14razorbacks
Indeed. Some people amaze me believe it or not, if you play guitar, you might want to know how to get the kind of tones they get on it.but clearly, if theres an excuse to try and be witty and dry, it doesnt matter to you. 14razorbacks
And in answer to the question...I've got a book somewhere, i'll go see if i can find the page now....Okay, I can't find it, but I'm pretty sure it was just a 100W basic Marshall or something really simple?thats what i remember from it anyway. localinsomniac
Mike's bass head is a Gallien-Krueger. Still trying to figure out what model. I'll get back to you!EDIT: After doing some Googling and comparing those pics of Mike's amp to G-K's current line, it looks as though this is a really old (how old is the question) design concept on the model 800RB.The current version of the amp looks like this:Gallien-Krueger 800RB
