Blackeyed81
Hello all. After having read the following article on Billie Joe Armstrong being a registered Libertarian, I've been half-expecting Green Day to step up and proclaim their endorsement for Ron Paul the way I believe they did for John Kerry in the previous election. Despite the fact that Ron Paul is running as a Republican, I believe that his politics should resonate even stronger to the fans of Green Day. I realize that the thought of registering as Republican voters would make most of you cringe, but in the spirit of putting an end to the war, minimizing the government and restoring liberty to the states it should be worth the effort -- shouldn't it?For those of you who aren't familiar with Ron Paul, I implore you to watch the follow for a quick summary on what he stands for:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG_HuFtP8w8...feature=related(skip ahead to 4:28 for the best part, including his views on what should be done about Iraq)Also, the 30 seconds long supporter-created video ad that aired on CNN a couple of days ago:http://ronpaul2008.typepad.com/ron_paul_20...irs-ron-pa.htmlI'd appreciate hearing some of your views on this. Thanks.

Blackeyed81
Ah, Ron Paul. There was me thinking this was about guitars.Well after seeing posts about what's the worst thing you've caught your parents doing, and changing the UK flag, I figured there'd be no harm in posting this. It wouldn't exactly "lower the bar". Besides, three years ago it was about guitars and John Kerry -- it *could* be about guitars and Ron Paul this time around. I doubt they would support Ron Paul. He's pretty out there.Yeah Ron Paul certainly stands out from the other republican candidates, or the "neocons" as they are called. He's republican in the more constitutional sense, and is the only one who's strongly against empirebuilding and policing the world. Unlike the other republicans, he's also strongly opposed to making rules that intrude on civil liberties (national ID cards, gay marriage, etc). People who say that he's "out there" usually refers to the fact that Ron Paul acknowledges some of the facts that are usually used to back up conspiracy theories. He was confronted about this at the recent republican debate on CNN, so you can listen to his reply here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOZIGPUPQVc

Which more or less means if it's not in the constitution it's a no go for him, which has benefits and downsides.I'd rather see them support Kucinich. Fuzz
I really doubt they'd support him, because he's so conservative. He'd prefer to do away with all the social programs out there, a lot of which I think Green Day support. Not to mention that Billie Joe and his wife have already made some donations to Obama according to that article floating around a few months ago. On the other hand though, I just found out that Green Day has joined the "Bands for Ron Paul" myspace group. I doubt Green Day have almost any involvement in their myspace.2. The Bands for Ron Paul page probably added them to get as many "supporters" as possible. 3. Obama > Ron Paul. Big time. Trotsky
I don't like Ron Paul very much at all, even though he's way better than the other Republicans. Green Day can endorse whoever they want. If you're not a total tool, their endorsment won't change your opinion.

mbk
I don't think they would support Ron Paul, and I haven't looked closely at the article but I don't think Billie Joe is a registered libertarian. Libertarians have some things in common with the far-left, in wanting less government control and intrusion, especially when it comes to things like excesses in law enforcement, but they have a lot more differences, especially when it comes to taking care of people who need help with social programs and the like.
