Similarity in a Green Day album

Recommended Posts

A while back a friend of mine and I were talking about Green Day, and he suggested that almost every song on a Green Day CD is the same. Meaning that everything on Dookie sounds the same, and everything on Warning sounds the same, etc.. I made the argument that it's not possible to say that Hitchin' A Ride, Take Back, Good Riddance, King For A Day, and Redundant sound anything a like(all songs from Nimrod). The argument went further, but I have to go watch TV. Whatcha think?

not all green day songs sound the same.....but each album has its own "sound". like when a song comes on the radio, before ive recognized the song, im picturing the album cover.

its like "okay...this is american idiot..." or "i hear some dookie playing"

so he has a point, but you also have a point :)

I've heard people say that kind of stuff too. And i think it's the same as me saying that every Creed, Evanescence or NOFX song sounds the same to me. I'm sure to their fans they can tell the different styles apart, to me they sound a lot alike.

I can tell the difference in Green Day songs, especially different albums. I would say that it's a matter of how closely you want to listen to tell the difference.

Well, no offence to Green Day, but power chords can only go so far.

True.

Still.

I think every Green Day song is special in its own little way.

I think the kid meant the voice sounded the same

well duh, these guys only record their album in a matter of days

That's a ridiculous statement to make. Green Day make ALBUMS, which means the songs have "flow" into one another nicely-- unlike Shenanigans (which is why it's a COMPILATION album). But none of the songs are alike.

Nah. He was mostly referring to guitar. Power chords can get redundant, but it's the way that Billie chooses to create catchy riffs.

Has he just heard dookie and warning? Or has the listened to the other albums as well?

No he's a fan of Green Day. He just said it for sake of an argument.

Your friend obviously needs to get himself a new pair of ears.

I honestly think each Green Day album has a unique sound... of course there's obviously going to be "similarities" -- you can't expect Billie to change his frickin' voice in every record; he's always going to sound the same.
