Will green day get typecast in american idiot?

I remember this question was raging in the porn community when Claudia St. Germaine did The Pirates' Booty 2: XXX Marks The Spot. She had already done two previous pirate-themed pornos, the film preceding TPB2XXXMTS, and the 1998 feature: Climb Aboard, Me Hearties! It was feared she would be typecast into pirate-themed pornography, especially as Captain Jane Falcon, the hilarious character of The Pirates' Booty series, she had the same charm and charisma as Johnny Depp, but she just so happened to be able to give her first mate a first rate blowjob. And....in the end, she was typecast. The Pirates' Booty 3: At Jane's End, is set to be released in December.

I think Green Day will be most remembered by Basket Case and Good Riddance...Its just younger people will of course remember them for American Idiot because they were probably too young to take much notice of their earlier stuff...

I agree.

Well, it's gotten to the point where the almost everyone I talk to about Green Day respond with something to the effect of "zOMG, Greenday are, lyKe, the kewlest new band EVA." So yeah, going by that, I'd say they've pretty much dug themselves into a stereotype with AI. Which, strangely enough, makes me want to shove Dookie or 39/Smooth down society's throat. Oh well

  • 4 months later...

when i think of green day, i think of the 90s and how they changed punk in the 90s with dookie

but it wouldn't be a bad think to remember american idiot

i mean that album did change a lot of things too

but caused questioning of selling out

"...and i had never heard of them before, the same goes for most people. ..."

That's just untrue.

for me it wasent but that could be because i was not even a year old when dookie came out and my parents didnt lisent to green day so when i heard green day constantly the year i was 11 and twelve thats when i started to like them

short answer to that question is ...... yes, especially if they come out with another political album and it doesn't do as well as AI

I think it would be like an insult for Green Day if they will be remembered only with AI.

Yes, a lot of people got into them by AI but albums like Dookie and Insomniac made Green Day's place.

When American Idiot came out a lot of my friends thought that Green Day is a new band and AI is their first album of course i "thaught" them that GD made music since they werent even born!

Oh and if Green Day were wearing the same clothes to every gig on the AI tour...jeez they must have smelled pretty bad

Now you know why Tre' was wondering around Naked on Bullet in A Bible after doing his laundry.

No ammount of chat spoken laughter can describe how much my sides are hurting after reading that.

I seriously hope that people wont just remember them as the guys that made an album fucking bush off

They're the gods of punk... I will remember cause of all their albums, the way each album had a different sound, the way they matured, all the things that made lmao

they will became legends :eyebrows:

i think that the tweens who discovered GD from American Idiot (and have only listened to that one CD) will always type cast them as that kind of band. if you grew up with GD or bothered to check whether or not they had other CD's, then those people won't typecast them as that 'American Idiot' band.

it all depends.

I can remember a few times Green Day were "huge" and on the charts:

From Dookie: Longview, Welcome to Paradise, When I Come Around

You want more? Maybe some from other albums not called Dookie? Okay then!

From Insomniac: Brainstew/Jaded, Walking Contradiction

From Nimrod: Good Riddance, Redundant (somewhat), Nice Guys Finish Last

From Warning: Minority

From Others: Poprocks and Coke, Maria, I Fought The Law

All of these songs put them on the charts. Where on the charts? Different spots, sure, but all of these songs got a LOT of play-time on the radio and MTV. A LOT.

I saw waiting shit loads of times.. you forgot it from warning, too. >_<

I sure hope not @ OP... I brought 1039/Smoothed to school today, and nobody even believed me that it was Green Day in the lyrics-book. One douchette said to me, "OHH! I have that album, that's the one with Holiday and I walk alone!" I hate those American Idiot faggots.. they all deserve to die in a fire.

Not really, no more than they got typecast for Dookie. If the new album comes out and sucks, then yeah probably.

i hope they dont just get remembered for american idiot. Dookie, 1039 SMOSH, Nimrod and Insominac were all better albums. I'd rather see them be remembered for Dookie then American idiot. I like American idiot but i think it was a bit overratted at the height of its popularity. I think some one said that earlier like on the 1st page or something.

I know. Green Day didn't used to be so extremely mainstream before american idiot. Don't get me wrong, everyone knew of Green Day, but they didn't get twenty thousand awards and five year olds weren't talking about them, which was and still is to a minor degree, the state of American Idiot.

I think they should've left it at Shenanigans, instead of turning into Pop Culture.. anything's better than that. I hope they go back to the sound of Nimrod, Insomniac, or Dookie, or SOSH, as you said.. but I highly doubt it. Maybe a new Madonna sound now? xD
