Did Green Day sell out?

Hey, watch it. stjimmy31295 made a good point. They're not THE punkest band EVER, but they are DAMN punk for their age. You can't take punk out of you unless you were into because of the fashion idea to begin with, and Green Day weren't. Working Class people CANNOT get into because of fashion, and Green Day have been into since they were teenagers. I'd say with that statement you just made, you are a VERY immature person, and it is YOU that is being close-minded. So please, do us all a favour and shut your yap.

stjimmy31295 actually said that thay were still the most punk band out there. Which I totally disagree with for starters. Secondly, he made a very bad generalization about the MCR fans and skaters that apparently we all think that Green Day are still are bunch of 17 year olds. We aren't all that stupid ok. And I never said they weren't punk so don't twist my words. I am one of the most open minded people you will find, and yeah I might have stepped over the line a bit, I'll admit that. BUT, I don't like it when people decide they can hate on a huge group of people they don't even know.

green day sold out.

and people that say "you hate them for making an album that people bought?" are dumb.

you dont have to sell albums to sell you, you have to do it for the money.

green day sells their merch at target and a lot of bands make money off merch and tickets, not records, so if their stuff is being sold at a national corporation, then you're sold out because you're doing it for the money.

also, punk bands dont make songs with U2.

They aren't doing it for the money. What part of that don't you understand? As I've said before, once the copyrights are sold, the companies can make whatever they want and put it in whatever store they want. Since when does playing with U2 or not have ANYTHING to do with it? I personally don't like U2, but they only worked with them for a good cause (seeing as Bono is constantly affiliating himself in that). Obviously, you don't have a clue what punk is.

^ It's just a freaking opinion. He's not hurting anybody with it so leave him alone. Geez. Why can't people just not bloody argue?

And anyway, you said Green Day were punk and U2 are obviously not so I thought you would have agreed with that, no?

They have never been THE MOST punk band out there, as I've said. And if you had read half of what I wrote, you wouldn't be writing most of this little comment of yours. All he was saying was that most MCR fans & skaters (yes, a generalization) tend to look past the fact that Green Day have been around for nearly 20 years, paid their dues, and are still working hard for good causes and their music, preforming wonderfully & putting about GREAT music. And Weather you choose to deny it or not- they still are a punk band. They have not sold out.I seriously doubt you are all that "open-minded"; I doubt you even go past sub genres of rock, or look deeper into the old-time, lesser-known bands of the past. And you can't be that open-minded when you're coming up with these arguements. Now, I am open-minded. But, unless I have undeniable proof that I am in fact wrong; I won't budge. And seeing as I'm using definitions, sense, and a educated opinion; I would be the one right at this point.I have been a fan of Green Day's most most of my life. I've watched them carefully, and have seen them grow into ADULTS. They are just like any other "rebel with a cause" adult in this world. They aren't teenagers, or young men messing around in life anymore. And people have to start realising that they can't expect the same people as they were back then. There's no evolution there. What's the point in living if there's never any change?Green Day is a band that just can't seem to win with some people. You either liked them back in the underground, and are arseholes because "they sold-out" for going on a major label (as if other iconic punks bands never did it), and getting their music out there (and those people not admitting that they never would have known what punk was without someone going on a major label). Or you are a Dookie-Insomniac-possibly Nimrod fan, but Green Day started experimenting, not following the stupid stereotype. Then there are the people that LOVED Green Day when AI first came out, but half of them are top 40 followers, the others are either die-hard fans, or people getting pissed off because of change. The people getting pissed off are the nihilistic "punks", that will hate them for changing, and hate them if they stay the same and become repetative. Nihilism is the reason punk coudln't truly revive itself in the 80s "hardcore" scene. That scene was macho, and facism would fester. No one could just MOVE ON. Develope. CHANGE. EXPERIMENT. That's why there's New Wave, which I love- the good stuff anyway. They kept the punkiness, but turned it into something different. Each band was unique, which punk wasn't. *Because they were nihilistic*.

No I wouldn't agree. Because that makes no sense. It's a CAUSE, and it shouldn't matter WHO you work with! And what he said was not "just an opinion"; he's trying to make it as fact, which it is not, and if he knew better he wouldn't go around making these little "opinions". THAT'S why I argue.

I couldn't even be bothered reading that. If your going to make a come back at least make it short and interesting. Sorry if I made you angry and I respect that you have an opinion and I really don't give a crap if Green Day have sold out or not.

Paft. It's plenty interesting to people who have a bigger attention span than a goldfish. I've gotten awards on my speeches. And I specialize in these topics. My "opinion" that Green Day hasn't sold-out, etc... are more fact than anything. And anyone that actually KNOWS anything about it- and I'm not talking about the arses that only think they do- they would agree with me. Because by definition, they haven't sold-out. And if anyone actually paid attention; you'd SEE that they haven't. The pleasure & pride they have for what they do is proof enough. People who sell-out have very little of it.

It's an opinion. Some people think they have sold out and some people think they haven't. Like I said, either way I don't care because I just like to listen to their music and I'm sorry if I have a low attention span this early in the morning, I shouldn't even be up yet  but arguing is so pointless because neither of us are going to win or lose, so just let it go and stop throwing insults at me.

How can you say that? There are thousands of punk bands, you just haven't heard of them because you don't look past huge corporate record stores and MTV.

Don't say that, I hate MTV and corporate bullshit.

I've checked out many underground bands, and they're all rip offs of each other.

Each with 1/2 beats, and mumbling.

Each of the original bands that started this never cared for making a name for themselves.

'Punk' is now trendy.

Green Day is not punk, they are pop punk at best.

I hate hearing that people think The Ramones or Sex Pistols were punk, they were pop as well in their time.

Most people have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to 'Punk Rock'.

Sure, some attitudes may be still exist, but as for the music in general, it doesn't.

I'm not really arguing. If I wanted to argue, I'd sound more like a lawyer. I realise arguing is pointless, because some people are incredibly hard-headed and don't know what they're talking about- they barely even have enough knowledge on the topic to make such statements. THAT is why I'm upset. Also; I'm not throwing insults at YOU in specific. I'm throwing them at anyone who thinks that they know about this, when they purely, and simply do not.

1- hating MTV does not make you any "smarter". If there's a good show on MTV, whether you hate the channel or not. WATCH IT. Who cares? I don't get MTV, but I'm certain they don't only show crap on there.2- It's ridiculous to say that Green Day, The Ramones & The Sex Pistols are not punk. They aren't THE MOST punk. They didn't START it, but they are none-the-less. I'm a huge fan of obscure punk bands, and I KNOW I know more than most people. (I can suggest some to you or anyone...just ask ;D), but that doesn't make them anymore or less "punk".3- Yes, most people do not have an idea of what they are talking about when it comes to "punk". I do. So watch you're statements when it comes to that. I study couter-cultures, and know basically EVERYTHING about it.
Well you did call me a goldfish
No. I was comparing your attention span to one. They have 15 second attention spans.

Don't preach to everyone acting like your opinion is what is right.

You can study all day, and whatever else bullshit, but it comes down to a fucking opinion.

You should study what the hell that is.

Calm down, and fucking relax. We all are completely different people, from different parts of the world, with different views on certain things.

Get the hell over it and quit being such a cunt.

I'm very calm, actually. And I do know what an opinion is, thank you very much. I could say the same for you. Don't try and be a smart-ass around me; insulting me and trying to put me down won't do anything.

There's no point in all this. Green Day did not sell out. If you put out music just to make cash (cough; My Chemical Romance) then your a sellout. But Green day has always written music because they believe in it.

Wait, wait. Altough I loathe My Chemical Romance with a firey passion (because I don't like the singers' voice, and they are very cookie-cutter), that doesn't mean THEY are sell-out, because I don't truly think they are. They obviously like what they are doing. " Green Day did not sell out. If you put out music just to make cash, then your a sellout. But Green day has always written music because they believe in it." on the otherhand is competely right. Selling out means scarficing yourself/what you do for money. They haven't done that at all. No matter what you say. I made this all very clear in previous posts.

Yes you did, so why are you still banging on about it ?

You don't need to counter every other post people make, it's not a chess game or a courtroom.

I'm doing it because people obviously haven't read my posts, and are trying to get away with it. I'm just so sick of it, and I just want them to realise that they don't know enough on the topic, or don't understand it enough to make such statements... But saying this, I belive I'm done now. I'm too tired to push on with these people.
