guitareluver
Hey... I'd like to post an apology about my horrible comment that I posted yesterday... I was very tired. I really am sorry about saying all these horrible things about Green Day, even though they mean't nothing. I was just a bit mad about the whole thing, but since it's for charity, I mean fuck where they do it, at least it'll help the cause. I hope you can all accept my apology... Once again I apologize to Green Day.Green Day 4 ever !
midlfecrysis
^Apology accepted, you were pretty harsh though. We all need to *think* before we *type* sometimes.it was kind of weird just seeing them standing there, but i still like the song ^ You have to admitt though, all the CLOSE-UPS of the incredible Billie Joe were amazing. He has the most beautiful face. EVER  It was a great view of him. Mike didn't get near enough camera time, but I guess there isn't much bass played in the song. sydneygirl
Ok, I've read the last few pages of this thread. This is my opinion. Green Day were perfect. They performed this song perfectly. Billie's voice was perfect. The music was perfect. They're clothes were perfect for the mood of the song. The graphics on the screen were just as it should be. The lighting was great because it was not garish and did not overly emphasise the band. They shared the stage with the images of John Lennon and Darfur behind them. They performed this song more solemnly which was exactly how it should be. It's a serious song with a strong and serious message. The Darfur situation is horrible beyond our imagination. The money that this song will raise will go a long way to ease some of the suffering. Green Day can be thanked for that. Amnesty can be thanked for that.It was a very smart move for whoever organised for Green Day to perform on the American Idol finale. It has reached millions of people. It has raised awareness of Darfur. The song has climbed on the Billboard charts which means more people are buying the song. Again, more money raised to ease the suffering in Darfur.Everything about this has been very good. It is beyond my comprehension why people would lose respect for Green Day for doing this, or why they think it was a boring performance, or why people would think Green Day will benefit from this financially. The people who think this have completely missed the point. They're in la la land. It has been said so many, many times throughout this whole forum what this song is about and what it's for, but some people STILL don't understand. I don't think they ever will. No amount of repeated explanations are getting in. :/ Luckily, most of the people get it, appreciate and are proud of Green Day. For me Green Day have always been, are now, and will always be the best band in the world - bar none! And yes, the close ups of Billie were totally beautiful! helle
Jeez...they're turning into U2.I agree. Green Day performing a before so powerful social statement on American Idol is more Bob Geldof than anything. With that said, I have not lost respect and do not look at this as selling out or whatever - just as a flat promo gig.

mbk
It is beyond my comprehension why people would lose respect for Green Day for doing this.Because other people have A DIFFERENT OPINION maybe?Or people have a very strange notion of what they should have respect for? You lose all respect for a band that does something to support a charity that is trying to help literally millions of people who are suffering terribly, but you would respect a band for staying true to a doctrinaire and rigid ideal of what is acceptable for an anti-establishment band to do?
