Laura33
There is some serious eye twitching going on when he is singing "and then they expect you to pick a career" awww"they drug you with religion, sex and TV" and yet there they are, SINGING ON TV, starring in one of the biggest mainstream no-brainer shows ever to air.I think that line of the songs refers to people going by what is said in the media, and people being 'media-brainwashed' not just watching TV in general. And there you go you just said it 'mainstream' lots of people are tuning in and therefore lots of people are gonna be made aware. allenxtreme
I bet Green Day thought the same about, like, lots of people watching the show, good cause right? DO YOU HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT LMAO? I bet Gwen Stefani thought about the good cause aswell and not the fact that she has a new single, or that Green Day are in the works for recording their new album...maaann fuck that...im out, I seriously can't be assed coming on here anymore to read about how many times Green Day are gonna fucking sell out and how many bias retarded fans of theirs run to their defence, its pathetic and you allllll know it, they've changed so much since Dookie, its not growing up, its selling out. I was kinda holding out hope, that they'd return to their better days, where they dont bring fucking politics or money into their music, but...easy applause right? slag Bush off? meh, rant over, the autistic has left the building boiiii

Do Green Day? Yes, they do, you're right. However, is Gwen Stefani's single for a charity album to help raise awareness and such for Darfur? No, its not. Is Green Day's? Why yes, yes it is. Its not brain surgery. They do have a new album coming out, thats true. In what time frame? We don't really know. Is it coming out this year? Probably not. Would their be any reason to do a publicity stunt like this to promote their album that is no where near completion? Probably not. Are you looking for reasons to bash them? Yes. teqi
i just don't have a problem with them going on Am Idol to get the exposure for the cause. i think its a good thing that they are supporting things they believe in and not just bitching about things without working to change them. i respect other's opinions about it though and i might feel the same if they'd gone on the show to promote their new CD and not a song they contributed for charity, who knowsand just wanted to add that Green Day has the greatest fans alive. how do i know this? because Green Day's myspace just sent out a bulletin saying so. hopefully they haven't been on here lately :whistling:EDIT: hmmm, interesting. the myspace bulletin disappeared about 10 mins after it appeared. i wonder why? Irene L
Well, I must say that at first, when I read it, I was somewhat sort of disgusted. I didn't really like the idea of Green Day performing on American Idol after all the things they've said throughout the years. It seemed as if they weren't being true to themselves and what they actually seemed to believe or think.I would have preferred they hadn't performed on American Idol, but there's nothing much one can do about it...I think they don't necessarily need to go on American Idol to promote Instant Karma and its cause, because the whole reason for this piece of work is something really serious, not the part of tributing John Lennon (I don't mean it in a bad way, just in case anyone misinterpretes that), but helping Darfur. And so, I don't really like something like this being on a TV programme like American Idol. Probably I'm basing it on my own opinion and that isn't fair. Everyone will have their own opinion, but after all, all I'm saying is what I think. It's not as much a matter of Green Day selling out or not as of making a sincere contribution, not doing it just for popularity or anything like that.I don't really think they've done this for popularity, or at least I hope so, but there's always a small doubt about that.*I must say I don't mind Green Day talking about politics, it's just what they've felt they've got to tell people. There's nothing wrong in letting others know what you think, if it's what you wish.Ok, probably they've decided to play on American Idol so that they reach many more people, but they could have done something different to get their message through...All this is nothing but an opinion.Other than that, the performance was good. And I must admit Billie Joe really seems to mean what he is singing. (This only comes to show you don't really have to hate a band for the rest of your life for this small detail, though it somehow changes the idea one may have about Green Day.) jesus the rage guy
well, i had to know what people on the Am Idol boards were saying and if they got the message. i should have known better. here is an example of why i had to get off the boards yesterday after posting why Green Day was appearingoriginal post: "Sigh. If you’re going to have someone do that song, WHY Green Day"someone's reply: It IS only 3 chords.. they would get lost on the other songs LOLas for today, there were some posts like "Green Day was there to simply promote their own career", etc.it also seems that most people completely missed the idea that they were there to support/promote a cause however, i did see that a lot of people posted that they'd just purchased the song from iTunes, so hopefully it did some gooddont forgetalot of idiots watch american idiotso they cant even understand a message of help, because all the audience of that show are assholes anyways, just all we must help darfur so, fuck'em idiotsehlpe darfur instead of watch that fucking show of assholes tryting to do something better in life that be assholes :whistling:

I'm not bashing Green Day for having performed on such a program, it's just I sort of felt slightly felt down when I first read about it.And I must add I'm in favour of doing whatever is possible to support a cause like helping Darfur is....Don't think I've got much more to add...
