piratepalmer
what ever happened to those little smartass punks we all loved?I simply fail to understand how, it is not GLARINGLY obvious that that is exactly what they are being! If I was in their shoes I'd have done exactly the same:Darfur = cause which is desperate for money ESPECIALLY with the rainy season about the happenAmerican Idol = massively popular, huge audienceThe most punk rock thing a band with the history that Green Day have had is to go on that pathetic show and get what THEY need out of it. It's a massive "fuck you" - we're better than you and we'll show you how to do it too. Do you really think they would have gone on there to do anything other that WCH? If you do I don't see how you can ever had any understanding of them in any way. And yes they were sombre - but I think jumping around to that song would be a little difficult They were fucking amazing.
Jaelle
They seem to be becoming a bit U2-ish. I don't like that.Thank you.I'm glad I'm not alone.

living_end87
i'm so use to seeing billie jump around the stage and seeing the heartgranade on the drum kit... that was actually a really good performance. they did it for the publicity and thats pretty clear. regardless if green day are against shows like american idol, its for a damm good cause. and we should show more respect for bands like green day who are willing to go out and show support for such things. Alex Ash
I think we all agree that this show has good points and bad pionts Good Points-It's for Charity-It's a live preformance (since there last live preformance was in Dec.)-They seemed as if they enjoyed itBad Points-It was American Idol-The show could of been better-It wasn't exactly a Green Day preformance as some hoped it might be (a little more energy)and those of you who are saying "What happened to those smartass punks" I understand and I really enjoy that Green Day but I guess they thought it was time for them to be more serious about the world. or They could just be faking the were the next U2 thing and come out with an awsome album :/

StJimmysGirl1039
YEAH. SO I HAD A REALLLLLLY SHITTY DAY BUT I LITERALLY SCREAMED AND SHRIEKED WHEN I SAW THE MYSPACE BULLETIN (30 SECONDS AFTER IT WAS POSTED) SAYING THAT OUR LOVELY BOYS ARE PERFORMING TONIGHT AND IT ISN'T A RUMOR LIKE I THOUGHT. THIS MAKES EVERY BAD THING ABOUT TODAY NOT MATTER.ahh sorry, caps attack :/I get excited insane when i find out big Green Day news like this :]]]How did you find this out foh sure?!I nearly screamed when I saw them on the TV. I didn't know that they were going to be on American Idol, so when they "magically appeared" i started jumping around!!!!! Although, I had to stop because I was going to miss the performance if I didn't, lol!I think we all agree that this show has good points and bad pionts Good Points-It's for Charity-It's a live preformance (since there last live preformance was in Dec.)-They seemed as if they enjoyed itBad Points-It was American Idol-The show could of been better-It wasn't exactly a Green Day preformance as some hoped it might be (a little more energy)and those of you who are saying "What happened to those smartass punks" I understand and I really enjoy that Green Day but I guess they thought it was time for them to be more serious about the world. or They could just be faking the were the next U2 thing and come out with an awsome album :/Ditto, but I think there was a lot of energy. Every Green Day performance I've seen has had some sort of energy. But if you say that there wasn't enough energy, well, there's only so much energy you can put into a John Lennon song, especially that one.As for people with the "What happened to those smartass punks" remarks (and I know they're out there), They ARE going into a more serious mode. I don't think their WHOLE next album will be like that, but I mean come on, Billie Joe is 35 years old, he can't be a teenaged punk forever. They have swallowed their pride, and thought 'fuck what everyone thinks, this is for a worthy cause'
RebelAmongSaints
It was a good performanceAs for them not jumping around as they useally do, I really dont think jumping around suits this song and the message they are trying to get out with itI'm still not sure as to how I feel about them performing on American IdolOn a total random and teenie note, I fell inlove with Mike all over again

There are people out there who don't even know where Darfur is, or worse, have never even heard of it or what the hell is happening there, yet they could rattle off the names of all the American Idol winners and runners up!
