Does anyone know who they preform after? I completely forgot it was on tonight and I half didn't believe it wasn't going to happen so I fucked myself over.

Around how far into the show did they preform? Thanks.

Edit: Kelly Clarkson is preforming right now. I'm guessing I'm too late?

and all I was saying is that if they went on the show, outside of their promotion for the awareness and help in Darfur, I would have a problem with it.

And I am saying why?

Lets just say they wanted to promote their new album and went on there, why in the world would that bother anyone? Its their decision, and they dont give a flying fu*k what anyone thinks.

I dont think because "we" dont think its right, because they were against it back in 1989. Or they are sellouts now b/c of it. I wonder why that matters to some of you, so please tell me.

One hour and twenty minutes into the show is when they play.

They were so good!

Tre's face was gorgeous. :woot:

Billie did seem crosseyed...but did anyone else notice that Billie looked almost on the verge of tears the entire time? Just wondering.

He didn't look like that to me. He just looked so serious... and sexy.

Well, it was a very lovely performance. I don't watch American Idol at all. But when you think about how many people do watch the show, it was smart of Green Day to appear on it. They want their message to get across about the children and people of Dafur, and apprently they did.

And by the way, if anyone is interested, I added about 50 caps of the song to Two Dollar Billie.

Go here if you want to see them, and I hope you enjoy them.

I think that, again, it's all about the context. If they weren't performing for charity but had a song as somber and hard-hitting as Working Class Hero I think it would have had a similar impact. It would still have seemed strange and out of place and maybe people would have been able to realize it was a subtle kind of wake up call, just like I think tonight's performance was. (I'm not sure how many people got that, though, even out of tonight's performance.)

I do object to shows like American Idol and I would be disturbed if they appeared on it in a way that seemed that they were embracing it and its commercial shamelessness.

I don't think their values have really changed from 1989, I just think they have become more accepting of their place as walking contradictions within the music biz, and are not constantly trying to fight it but sort of turning it upside down in more subltle ways.

NZ's a whole week behind. Sadness.

I have absolutely no problem with it myself.

Any chance to see them play.

Because thats not Green Day. Yeah you could say that whatever they choose to do is Green Day, and its their band and they could do what they want, but I don't believe that. I feel there is a connection of honesty, trust and understanding between the fans and the band, and I would feel like they'd break that bond with me if they went and did something like that. From all I've gather about the people they are, and what they stand for as a band, going and promoting an album on American Idol, would just not be who they are to me, or to themselves, and like I said, would just break that bond for me. Thats why it would bother me. I'd still listen to them, but I wouldn't have the same connection.

Thanks mate, but did you happen to get any caps of some sweet Dirnt action? You know, the two seconds he had camera time, that is :-| lol. I need a Mike cap for the daily Dirnt tonight. I've got enough for bj. I'll upload them myself and link your site for billie joe's, though. Just in case no one knows what the hell I'm talking about:

http://community.livejournal.com/billiejoe_daily

Is where I'll post them, if you give me permission.

Mike looked very good tonight, I wish he was shown more! And I tried to get some of Tre, but you could barely see him (the screen was very bright). I only got about two or so of Mike out of the milisecond of aritime he was given.

And sure you can repost them (:

I can respect that. I still dont know why you feel that bond is so strong that they cant do something they said they never would do.

I dont get the whole problem people have with them maturing and changing as they get older.

Nor do I understand why it matters so much what they do as long as they still produce good music.

But thats just me. So thanks for trying to explain it, I suppose I just need to go to bed. haha. :)
