Green Day On American Idol Finale Tommorow?

The Phrase That Pays

Recommended Posts

It's confirmed they're on. I'm in LA and I called KROQ to ask if it was true and they put me on the air with the rumor because they said they had news they weren't allowed to say, but if I said it, it would be ok. After I said there was a rumor they were going to be on, they asked the dj who said he had news if it was true and he said yes, he was told yesterday but he wasn't allowed to say anything.

Hey dear, thanks for the news :wink:

If they play Working Class Hero to promote their cause or something, then I'm alright with that, but if they play one of their own songs then that is seriously lame.

I'm not gonna really believe it till I see them, but on the Amer Idol site, they say there is Live red carpet video starting at 6pm EST. Wonder if they'll do that stuff?

I think they're compelled to do anything AI, American Idiot, Amnesty International, American Idol, if I change my name to AI, maybe Tre will do me. :P

Why on earth would it be a bad thing to see them perform live? Anywhere? I don't understand any reasoning for that.

Who better to get the message of WCH to than the audience of American Idol?

"That's the choice they allow you--now the outlet is being a pop star, which is really what I'm saying on the album in 'Working class hero'" (Lennon, J)

Seeing them perform live is a good thing, but seeing them perform on American Idol is not such a good thing.

I think. Like I said; I haven't made up my mind yet. :/

I hope its not true, unless Bono talked them into it. He was on it (for less than 2 minutes) when they had the charity show - Givin Back a few weeks ago. Doesn't AI go against everything Green Day stands for i.e individuality, non-conforming, free expression of speech. Why would they even consider this?

But why? I'm curious to know. :)

Yes, exactly! Thanks for the quote, too. :)

The purpose of doing this song was to make people aware of the situation in Darfur. Millions of people (impressionable!) watch this finale - how many people can become more aware with just one performance?

And that's also assuming this is the song they will perform. But what else could it be really?

Yeah, but it's not just that - I mean, American Idol is a complete poxarama of a kind which is replicated all over the world now. It's a training course in How to Succeed By Being Mediocre, it cultivates personality over ability - much like politics - and what's the end result? Crap. Both the contestants and the people who vote for them are manipulated by the television company and the advertisers as just ratings-fodder.

"keep you doped on religion and sex and tv" - maybe if someone stands up right in front of them and says that loud as only GD can, people might notice the coma they're in. Or not, lol!

To be honest: I'm not sure.

American Idol is not a place you would expect a well established band like Green Day to perform;

and I guess it kinda goes against the whole eternal "punk"-thing.

I am aware that they're probably doing this to promote the cause of Darfur;

which is why I think that in the end, this is indeed a good thing. :)

If they didn't have a very good reason to play there, though,

it might've just seemed like they were desperate for some media attention while working on their new album.
