and doing another Rock-Opera wouldn't receive as much recognition as "American Idiot"

Like how The Who's Tommy is more well known than the latter Quadrephenia.

They won't get a third. I'm all for them staying together if they are making good music but when they hit mid 40's it will be a very hard task to achieve.

I think it'd be cool if they released some CD's of all the stuff that doesn't make it to their final albums.

But as for the new album, I'd prefer just a regular CD filled with some good classic Green Day songs. I'm a bit weary of the "we're a big deal" feeling that followed Green Day around with A.I. It was fun while it lasted, but i'd be happy if it went away and they seemed like the "average" people who make awesome music.

As long as they don't loose their Green Day-ness, it's all good :)

i don't think Green Day will ever lose its Green Day-ness, since they're Green Day :)

Meh, that would be ok, but I'd be happy with just a plain CD.

Plain cd? Nuh uh, there's no such thing. Not as far as Green Day is concerned, anyway... But I think they're best bet would be to try NOT to top American Idiot, because... Damn, that's setting the bar high. If anyone could do it, they could. though. I didn't think they could top Dookie. But they did. AI is the jewel in their crown, a beautiful album. Dookie is just... Irreverant and fun and ass kicking. AI is an ass kicking masterpiece. :)

They already eliminated the Rock Opera, I do believe, saying something along the lines of 'We don't want another American Idiot. We like change. Our next album likely won't have a story ... Don't get me wrong, we want the best album we can possibly write, but it won't be the same.'

or something along those lines

I'll put money on it that:

The Network: Green Day's "experimental album" they're fooling around with

Green Day: An album with the same musical techniques of American Idiot, but given more edge (Ie: songs like American Idiot, Letterbomb, St. Jimmy, She's a Rebel, Holiday will be given a more Insomniac touch/feel to them, songs like BoBD, Whatsername, Extraordinary Girl, WMUWSE, Are We The Waiting will have more of a Warning touch/feel to them. [i left out JoS, Give Me Novicane, and Homecoming, because A) I think GMN is what the slower songs on the next album will be like and B) I don't think the next album will have Operas on it])

It would probably be a great success and really good if done well. But then again, it could totally flop. But I assume if they did that they would do it well.

Maybe one day, Billie will be 75, and I'll go to their show, they'll play all their hits, end with "Haha You're Dead" and then one of them will drop dead on stage.

they'd never end with "ha ha you're dead"
