this is so stupid. So they've got the same producer and director - so fucking what?! Bayer and Cavallo are both awesome at what they do, so why not ask them both to take care of something that MCR obviously have a lot of pride in?

And even if they are 'copying' it's only superficial things that don't even matter - Green Day and MCR's music sound completely different.

oh my god i log on and the first thing i see is this! no one gives a shit ok, MCR DO NOT and ARE NOT copying Green Day, you obviously haven't listened to the The Black Parade because it sounds nothing i repeat nothing like Green Day. MCR's last album was a concept album and i think their first was too so it's not like they haven't been doing it all along. and just because they hired the same producer and video director, they must be copying Green Day, nevermind all the other bands that have hired Rob or Sam, lets just single out Green Day. maybe they just really liked their work hmm, ever thought of that? and Green Day are an influence on MCR but on their latest record they cite Queen and Pink Floyd as their main influences so you can't possibly connect anything with Green Day. do your research before making yourself look like a fucktard

Not to mention theyve been using the same guitars that green Day used to record songs.

Dont get me wrong, I like MCR's music, but they kinda piss me off. PLUS they even admited they copied Queen and BOTH my parents could tell before I even told them about it.

Okay, I've just woken up so ths could come out as a load of shit. But hey ho.

MCR are fucking NOT copying GD. I think it's fair enough to say it is up to them who they want to produce their album. Rob was amazed when he heard them play a few demos to him and wanted to work with them and vise versa. I can't see them sitting together and thinking 'Ok GD used this guy, we don't actually know him or like him but lets use him anyways.' These guys care about their music just like GD do and I guess they saw in Rob, what GD did.

Sam Bayer has made numerous video's, not just for GD. Are you saying they are copying everyother band he has worked with to? No, didn't think so. And also, yeah he said that JOS was his last video, but I'm guessing the money changed his mind. :)

Okay now we have the thing about one of their songs sounding the same?! Are you actually kidding me, that made me laugh a little bit. Sooo many songs sound the same, it would be impossible to not. There are only so many drum beats you can start with etc.

Green Day did not invent concept album's, rock albums, punk albums or rock opera's so I don't think you can really call MCR copyers when GD are the same. :)

Back to the video thing, Sam Bayer isn't the best video producer in my opinion, probably why the video looks like other videos, and of course we're gonna say minority/bobd. Gerard doesn't act like BJ in that video AT ALL. Gerard is much more theatrical than Billie, a lot less laid back than Billie and more camp.

Okay what the hell is wrong with putting on a show when playing live? I think the props and the dancers are fucking awesome. It gives you more to experience and makes everything much more theatrical and exciting, which was what 3 cheers was about. Also they aren't doing this for the money you dumb fuck. If you even listened to anything that band had to say you would know they don't. Infact by saying that everything else you have to say will be ridiculed by me. And anyway that has nothing to do with this argument.

Jesus, Gerard can sing like Billie? That's a new one, I'll listen to the new albumm for the 56th time and let you know. o.O They have totally different voices. Billie's is very strong and melodic wheras Gerard's is a lot more shrill in someways and screamy. I have never understood why people say they sound the same. They're voices are totally different, they use them in totally different ways. Can't see it myself.

Right, Green Day did not fucking invent the red and black fucking costumes. This is doing my head in. MCR have their own style, they look fuck all like Green Day except for the colours. None of you whining shits said anything when GD started wearing black and red suits/unforms.

I'm gonna leave it at that. I could go on but my poor brain just can't cope with it. Overall MCR have not, are not and wont ever copy GD. They are an individual band with individual music, lyrics and style. Yes they look up to Green Day as an influence, that is fucking obvious, but really does that mean they are copying them? Uh no.

yeah MCR aint copying Green Day, Green Day created American Idiot, a rock opera, just...2 years ago....then now MCR come out with a...rock opera (They stated in my guitar magazine that it IS a rock opera...) and the same director...and the same producer...and near enough the same suits...and the same guitar Billie Joe used on Good Riddance.... Ok, enough bullshit, MCR are straight up copying Green Day, but who can hold the higher ground here? It's true Green Day didn't invent the Rock Opera, I know the Who did one back in the day, but ask yourself this, had Green Day NOT recorded American Idiot, would MCR have recorded Welcome to the Black Parade? I think the MCR fans are in major denial. BTW, I'm an outsider on this, I dont really care for GD or MCR...so I'm not bias in anyway.

I think you guys need to realise that there is a line between infuence and copying.

ok, so I'm kind of a fan of My Chemical Romance, and I heard that there was going to be a new album. Thought it would be kind of cool. I checked their myspace page today, and I watched a Q&A with the band members, and I watched their first new video.... seems like they're copying Green Day like no other.

Example:

1) What is the type of album they just released? Somewhat of a rock opera in the sense that there is a story.

2) Who did they hire for the new record? None other than Rob Cavallo.

3) Who did they hire to shoot 2 videos for them so far? Samuel Bayer.

Seem a little suspicious? I think so. I'd like to see what you guys think.

I totally agree with you. I didn't know about the rock-opera or Rob, but I knew they had Samuel Bayer make the videos, and I saw the one for the "Black parade" and it reminded me of Blvd. of broken dreams, since it's also made in that kind of 'Old' way, where the pictures look a little scratched, if you know what I mean.. So I think they would like to be like GD, but who wouldn't?

If I don't like something and it's not doing me any harm then I just bloody ignore it, like if that shitty, MTV created "R&B" type crap comes on the radio when I'm in the car or whatever I just turn the bugger off.

It's not that hard.

yah people.

Green Day did not invent the concept album or rock opera

Haha... reminds me of a conversation I had with an aquaintance not long ago...

Me: "Pfft... The Who invented the concept album! You can't beat that!"

Friend: "They did not! There were so many bands that did that before--"

Me: *waves arms around* "Okay, fine. The Who invented the SUCCESSFUL concept album... so HA HA!"

ooh... smackdown!!!

Anyway, I don't see what the big deal is with everyone hating MCR. People I talk to start whining "ehehrhrh they're emo" but so what? Everyone has to be something. Deal with it.

If they have the same guy directing their videos, good for them. I didn't like the JOS/WMUWSE vids anyway.

And isn't their dress code black/white now anyway rather than black/red?

I want a black/blue band.

I haven't read the whole of this thread BUT!...

* Every single MCR album is a "concept" album

* Green Day copied the whole red and black look from The Icarus Line so you keep your mouth shut

* Gerard isn’t copying Billie. How is acting really queer Billie? If anything, he is copying Freddy Mercury…

* MCR sing about death and shit, oh yes, so GD

I could go on but really, I can't be fucked

This is really getting old now :bored: I see what you're saying, it does look like MCR have copied Green Day in some ways, but I don't think that it's cos they wanna be exactly like them, it's cos they're inspired by them. Gerard said in an interview somewhere that they look up to Green Day and that they're idols of theirs, in exactly the same way that we as fans admire them. I write songs and cos I listen to GD so much, I'll admit that my stuff does sometimes end up sounding a bit like one of their songs - it's probably similar with MCR. And who cares that they got Sam Bayer to do their video, and that Rob Cavallo is their producer - he's also Paris Hilton's producer for fucks sake showing he obviously works with a variety of artists. Green Day and MCR have some similarities but really they are 2 seperate bands with 2 very different sounds. MCR could never have pulled off something as big as American Idiot, not yet anyway

must i be more specific amanda?

Oh yeah, this shows how mature you are. Going all nuts likle that just because some people like a band that you don't? That's fucking stupid.

Admit it, the only MCR song you've ever heard is I'm Not Okay.

Guest Phoebe.

I copy GD, all the time. I wear black clothes and eyeliner. Hell, I even call myself "Billie" on the internet. And I'm trying to grow a moustache.

I would say that My Chemical Romance got influenced by Green Day.

But even their music sounds so different.
