Green Day & U2 Performance

There are some very good points being made regarding the comments about Billie's appearance. But let me state that from a personal standpoint, making a comment about his appearance is in no way a criticism. I do love and admire BJ and Green Day, no matter what they look like. So when people say his hair is this or that or he looks less wrinkly (the botox thing) or he looks this or that, I don't necessarily take that as criticism, just observation. I'd adore Billie no matter what he looked like, Green Day is the most incredible band on earth for me, Billie is the most talented man on earth for me!

You people really do shock me sometimes. You're totally shallow and end up missing the point of everything that man does 99% of the time. If you're not moaning about the music he writes, how mainstream it is or how much he's changed for the worse you're bloody critisizing him ageing! It's pathetic. He isn't a young 20 year old punk anymore. He's a very, very busy father of two who is in his mid thirties. He's been on holiday and probably put on some weight. So bloody what?! When they were touring you were all moaning about how skinny he looked, seems the poor guy can't do anything right to please his 'fans' And oh dear, he grew his hair and he's starting to grow out of the 'pretty boy' look he adopted throughout american idiot. I shoudn't be suprised that some of you are maoaning about that, not finding him pretty enough anymore?! I think people start to forget that he is still a human being, still has feelings and still does the things we do. You should really stop placing him on a pedastool of invincibility because everytime he gets down from it you all start having shit fits and its highly annoying.

totally agree! and I have to say.... the guy probably can be a total twat at times! everybody can! poor sod would no doubt get nose bleeds all the time if he actually lived on the pedastal a lot of fans put him on. sadly.... it doesnt matter how much we point out the fact that the guy is human... fans will just say "but thats why we llluurrrve him!!"

fans see what they want to. I`d rather see the guy looking spotty, getting crabby with people and then getting up on stage and doing a bloody good gig! or even and bad gig but having a laugh about it than see him, or anybody else through rose tinted specs. but this is music.... this is fantasy land. this is where people leave the mundane behind.

sadly this is where the wierdo/stalker/Addie bashers come from as well. good job they have such damned fine security guys! even if Bill does have one of those silly chin beard thingies.

First of all he is great human being.

and helped me celebrate some very happy times. :)

I have wanted to write them many times and thank them,

but wonder if they would ever see the letter.

I'm probably sounding dumb now sorry. :ermm:

P.S. He is like a fine wine, keeps getting better.

I agree with you 100%.

I have a tendency to criticize people for even the most insignificant thing(s), not just Billie. However, I finally acknowledged that criticizing others [defects or decisions] is very wrong and I'm truly sorry if I've offended Billie in any way, because that definitely was not my intention.

I'll be honest and say that I really don't give a damn about the decisions Billie makes because it's his life; he can do whatever the fuck he wants with it; it's definitely none of my concern. None of you shouldn't care about the decisions he makes either! Who cares if his teeth are fucked up or if his hair is too long or if he looks too old -- we should love Billie just the way he is! Only a true fan would do that.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: there's more to Billie than his looks. He's an amazing guitarist/singer/songwriter, performer, father, husband, and friend! No matter what Billie does to himself physically or if he ages, he'll always be a gorgeous man to me, and that's why I love him with all my heart.

Just curious Lotus Eater as to what you did not like about them? I have 2 yrs of observation as well, and yet my opinion is different. I personally did not like WMUWSE Video (especially the dialog in the middle of it-however all my friends with a loved one in Iraq or anywhere loved it)and while I liked Bullet in a Bible overall, there were some things I would have done differently. Such as not so ADDish (not so busy) and not a section on Sam, and not cutting out bringing people on stage and stuff like that. However, I thought American Idiot was great, and Holiday was very entertaining. JOS was probably what BJ, M & T wanted. It was fine.

True--American Idiot is nicely done. And Holiday...I guess what Sam does well with these videos is capture the energy of the song. However, the concepts just don't do it for me. There's so much substance in those lyrics, and such a Big Message, but you don't really get any of that through the videos. I find them too polished, too...well, overproduced I suppose is the word. And that's what a lot of people criticized in JOS; it was supposed to be showing the "real" troubled youth, but it looked like a bunch of actors dressed up like catalogue punks. That song needed a raw, gritty video. The only thing I liked about it was the live footage woven into it through the television. And what it DIDN'T need was dialogue. Oh, the dialogue was God-awful. Just the fact that Sam started thinking that adding dialogue was somehow a higher form of video-making art, when it actually is regression. Music videos--and certain types of films--are supposed to be able to tell a story with images set to music, without dialogue. The simple truth is that Sam Bayer is just entirely too full of himself. I really don't see anything he's done that's pushing any envelope or that's particularly inspired. If anyone has an example of something groundbreaking he did, I'd love for you to point it out.

What I really hate is that music videos have become obligatory for all singles released by major bands. I think a video should only be made if there is a concept good enough to justify making a video.

I see exactly what you mean now. And I agree with alot of it. Thanks for the explanation. :)

dont have a clue. I could ask and see if he feels like answering me today or not.

Do ask, because if its not the live version, why would it matter if its been ripped and shared?. All those guys are smart and I am sure were aware that was a possiblity of that happening before it happened. I am sure they would plan accordingly..

BTW, When you say he are you referring to BJ, Mike or Tre?

The main difference with the studio version, is the absence of the brass band. But the rest is very similar, Billie starts singing the snippet of 'House of the Rising Sun' with a sweet voice until the song explodes in insane proportions. I've uploaded a low-fi mp3 of the studio version so you can listen.

http://download.yousendit.com/1A2048C43ECED679

BTW, that's not any random brass line-up. It includes the New Birth Brass Band, the Rebirth Brass Band, Trombone Shorty, and others local greats. Edge attended to New Birth and Trombone Shorty gigs while touring, so he had a connection with them before Katrina disaster. Was a nice thing to invite these bands to join them in such a special event.

So you have jazz, punk and pop all mixed together ... it should have been a nightmare, but the result was the most beautiful and epic thing I've heard in my life.

same here and thank you

sweet. and as for the ripp offs. they have to live with it. The performance mainly an excuse or insentive to donate, just a perk. there will always be those that actually want to donate. even those rips can be a benifit because it may actually get into the hands of someone that may want to donate and didn't know about it. (may have lived under a rock) as for the convo before this, WTF. is this entertainment tonight-holliwood today-extra-bla bla bla crowd? does it make people feel superior to pick out other's flaws? well, if you're so superior and advanced what are you doing with your life that's so important?
