U2 to record with Green Day / Confirmed

It doesn't surprise me in the least that Bono has latched onto Billie.

I suspect it's going to be more Green Day than U2.

True, and i hope so.

At least it'll be a nice change for the guys - they get to record something and be creative but at the same time they don't have that pressure of having to write a whole new song. I just hope they don't get slated for it... :/

It doesn't surprise me in the least that Bono has latched onto Billie. Those pics of him crouched in the aisle at the Grammy's pontificating, while Billie was lost in thought were very telling. I think Bono sees in him a powerful voice, figuratively speaking, who doesn't come with all the rockstar baggage he himself has acquired.

'Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own' aside, Bono has been phoning it in musically for the last decade but I still look forward to hearing this collaboration and I suspect it's going to be more Green Day than U2. Playing Live 8 seemed to be very important to them and I'm sure they're looking forward to contributing to this cause. They're forever linked to the Katrina disaster because of how meaningful WMUWSE became during that tragedy.

On another note, I guess I'm the only one who thought Billie looked awesome in the Idiot Club video. He was scruffy but you can tell they're in the thick of it and that's fantastic. He's not tanned and fat from sitting on a beach all summer. Billie is under enormous pressure to follow up the juggernaut that American Idiot became but at the same time, I'm sure he's excited to be challenging himself and pushing Green Day into new territory musically. I have complete confidence that he knows what he's doing and won't settle for mediocrity unlike Bono.

So after months of nothing, the news this week has been all good.

When the next big thing comes along, the old vampires always come out of the woodwork - reminds me, on another level, of Madonna and Britney, some hero-worship on one side, some hitching a star to the latest success on another. I'd love to know how many of Green Day's Irish gigs Bono went along to over the years; I have the sneaking suspicion that he's an AI convert - a forty-something teenie, lol!

I was looking at some retrospectives of Katrina during the week, remembering what was so unbelievable - all those days when the people of New Orleans were left to die on their own streets, like some sort of nightmare; I consider it a bigger scar on Bush's presidency that even the war.

The trauma that city endured has got to be something that will take years to repair, and yes, it is too easily forgotten once it's off the front pages. The publicity the song will produce is as important as the money it will undoubtedly raise, and I'll be buying, for sure; even without the cause, even given my opinions on U2 - which are in this case irrelevant anyway - Green Day never put shit on sale - it'll be cool, no doubt at all.

I think this is great. I mean.. U2's a good band.

I can see why some of you don't like them and think's bono is just a phony or whatever. But it could be so much worse! GD could be covering something crappy with some crappy band and it could be just for fun.( As in no money for New orleans... )

And Bono could choose just not to give a damn about anything and just don't even try to make a difference, but he's not. he is doing his best to try and make this world just a little bit better. He has the power and he's using it. (wow that sounded really... clichè... yuk...) Anyway, that's alot better than doing nothing. And U2 has been politically engaged the whole time, Like in the songs sunday bloody sunday, where the streats have no name... And besides, if Bono was in it for the money he probobly would have replaced many of the band members. Cus they're not that fucking great musicians. but they've kept the original members all this time!

Well.. don't know if I totelly lost my point here.. I'm sick and tired. but anyway. This cover is for a good cause! And I'm looking forward to hear it!

And by the way -The skids are good! :D

Ok so U2's got the whole 'washed up rocker comeback' and Green Day is basically at the highest peak of their career, plus the passion - you can’t forget that!

Like a lot would agree - it should be interesting.

I thought Green Day were considered "washed up" before AI came out. both bands have gone through highs and lows. several times as well.

Bono and Billie and the rest obviously get on enough to get together and do something that will high light the problems caused by Katrina.

Sounds like it'll be good. Not the biggest fan of U2, but that's alright, I'm still excited.

Also, you can't bash Bush when you're having meetings with him in the Oval Office and travelling through Africa with his cabinet minister. Bono has backed himself into a corner as an artist because of his politics. When American Idiot came out it was a kick in his crusading ass, criticizing everything he couldn't.

Remember he rightly said "I thought this was Green Day's year" when accepting the Best Group Grammy in 05. I think he jumped on the bandwagon after seeing how Green Day put their balls on the line in AI and the overwhelming positive response, especially critically. It doesn't hurt Bono to bask in a bit of the American Idiot limelight and at the same time it's great for Billie to have earned his respect as an important voice in rock music.

Awesome that they're doing it for charity, but I was really expecting the news to be bigger. It's not like GD hasn't done anything like it before.

I'm still kind of mad and disappointed that this was the big news. I mean I can't believe how big they made this out to be. Don't they know that probably half of Green Day fans don't even like U2?

Seriously WTF

I'm pissed off at this.

U2 are the most overrated and the most shittest band on the entire earth.

I bet they are just using greenday as a tool for them to get more undesserved grammies.

I'm not a big fan of U2, but some of their songs are pretty good, but hey they're working with Green Day so its gotta be good.

I'm all for the charity thing, because that's really great, but I'm not for the whole U2 thing. I don't like them, and Bono's all full of himself.

But like I said before, I'll be interesting to hear. I was kind of hoping the big news was gonna be about the movie, but oh well.
