Jewels!
Well isn't that special...I guess it's good they're helping musicians that lost their instruments, but still. I'm disappointed.

stablesoulsgonebad
^ditto. i don't like U2.Im not the biggest fan either. But what the hell. When it happens, it might turn out to be really good. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Seems that a lot of everything in Green Day news is involving a good bit of waiting. farley drexel hatcher
Wow, i'm pretty shocked to say the least! But how can you guys not say it's big news? It's a new music, which we haven't had any of in a while. I'm not a fan of u2 but i'll give it the benefit of the doubt, we can't really say anything until we hear what they come up with. I'm actually kind of looking foreward to it, at least now i know it's for a good cause.

It's probably the same as ours."WTF!? Green Day??"I'm looking around this U2 forum and I have no idea where they would post it...they have too many sections. Christ! apocalipstick
This is pretty exciting. I was expecting some stupid "big news" but this certainly qualifies as big!
woven_basketcase
I dunno, their music isn't exactly bad...I think it's the people I hate - they are too cocky, Bono with his stupid sunglasses, and who calls themself "The Edge"???? thats just fucking annoying. I guess it's cos so many people say that they are the best band ever, but I personally see them as an ok band but not amazing or incredible....so yeah yeah..i can see about the sunglasses..never got that myself.and 'The Edge' is a screen name, just like Tré Cool, or The Rev and Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold.i think its kinda cool...you can have your own personallity, a whole other you just for an hour or two infront of thousands of people who completely adore you. ArmatageShanks39
that songs awesome. its gonna be a shame if they destroy it and mellow it out.now lets just pray to satan this doesnt lead to a green day/U2 tour.

spontaneous_combustion
I haven't posted this on the mainsite, since i'd much rather wait for a more formal clarification - but according to this forum post U2 and Green Day are going to record a song.--U2 TO RECORDWell, that is what Bono told this afternoon over the phone to Michka Assayas - author of the book Bono on Bono. Bono sang an old Skids song to him, explaining that U2 is to record it soon with Green Day. --I guess i'm posting both for dicussion, and to see if we can find anymore info about it. I don't know if it's true, but this was sent to me through the "submit news", so i figured it at least wouldn't hurt to find some more info about it.thats....different, and i'm not a fan of U2. i dont hate them, but they aren't exactly "punk" or like green day. i hope if they do something it won't be all boring and safe. woven_basketcase
^ does it HAVE to be "punk" to be associated with GD? who cares if U2 isn't punk or whatever, thats not the point.Yeah I spose, there is just something about U2 that irritates me, maybe them making a song with Green Day will change my view on them, I could become a U2 Fanatic....can't really see it happening though yeah, not fanatic.i think it will be a mix of both their music. OHH! mabye like MCR/the Used did with they're cover of Under Pressure...they had 2 drums, 3 guitars, 1 bass, 2 singers......that would be cool. but mabye change it to 2 basses..i really wanna hear this now.. woven_basketcase
Mikey's wonder tamburine playing skills..and yeah...i guess it is big news, but the hype everyone was giving it made it think like a new album sneak peak or something. not this. ArmatageShanks39
guys, lets put this in perspective. U2 is about a 1,000% improvement from the shitty bands theyve been doing stuff with like My chemical romance and stuff.
ILoveTableArt
Haha fabulous.I was on the phone with my mom earlier when I read about this I told her- She's really excited she loves U2 and thanks to me she loves Green Day.. haha

farley drexel hatcher
There was no chance of the big news being an album sneak....i mean, they're barely even in the studio. And u2 are a much better choice than some bands...they're new stuff isn't amazing, but they have some good older songs. And it is for charity, so you kinda of had to guess Bono was involved somewhere along the line.
greencarrot
I wonder of what they where thinking about when they "declared" this.who might write the song? and what might they write it about?shit
Sara Armstrong
oh definatly. i wouldnt be surprised if this is really huge. besides, how would they raise any money for the charity its for if it wasnt big?i'm pretty sure if they release it as a single it will be pretty big..U2 has a huge fan base, and so does green day.they were both in the top 10 tours, and were nominated for grammy's and shit.so if they release it as a single, i'm sure it will be big. justcause
I think if it's both bands just jamming, it has the potential to be cool; I know that Billie Joe has mentioned U2 as an example of longevity in the music business, the kind of thing he wants for himself - and you know, it'll be a nice day out for U2, they'll get to remember what it was like to have passion in their music!
