I've read a lot of reviews online from parents who have purchased a Green Day CD for their kid (17 and under), and most of them complain about their excessive use of the f-word in their songs and how their kid is oftenly using the word. Do you think Green Day should limit their swearing?

uh, maybe the parens shouldn't be dumb and buy their kids a CD with Parental Advisory on it if they don't like the swearing.

and plus its freedom of speech... Green Day likes to swear, so the parents should get over it and teach their kids not to use the bad words and maybe think twice before buying their kids a CD with parental advisory on it again.

As my ma says swearing means low intellegnice. But in Green Day's case it cant be, since there so talented and smart. But yeah i dont think theyll ever stop sweraing. And i like that since they dont give a shit bout if your mom or dad or teachers, or radio sataion. They do what they want. thats why this country is called America. And thats why they choose the Punx lifestyle.

*Amen.

I don't think so...

Because I don't think they swear just because they want to. I think they swear because they feel they need to at the moment they're writing it. So if they feel the need to swear, let it be. And if they don't, they don't.

Green Day limiting their swearing may be one of the worst ideas pertaining to Green Day I have ever heard.

I mean sure, if there's a band that wantonly showers their lyrics with curses in such a way that interferes with listening to the songs, yes, they should limit their swearing. But that's not BJ's style. Every "fuck" and "shit" of his is delicately placed, carefully considered, and certainly warranted.

Limiting anything (artistically) just about goes against everything Green Day stands for.

Green Day dont swear excessively at all! especially in their earlier albums, there isn't a single swear word in 1039/SOSH and i don't think there's one in Kerplunk either. the only two songs where they swear alot that come to mind are platypus(i hate you) and the grouch. green day don't swear alot, they only use swear words when they are needed, for emphasis on what they are saying.

No because they should have the right to say anything they want and i think the swearing expresses what they are saying more and besides they don't really swear that much

I doubt Green Day cares what parents think. They can put whatever words they want in their music. Billie Joe said "I like using foul language because it gets my point across."

Or he just likes swearing a lot...

Edit: I found the letter

Here is what the person wrote: (Not even worth reading)

And here is Billie's reply:

:woot:

Edit: Oh, it's already up.

:D

I've been meaning to save that again... I lost it when my comp died...

Anyway... It's not like kids will never hear the f-word in their lives. My parents never toned down their language around me, though they don't like when I use it but who honestly cares that much about whether their kids hear swearing?

To parents who get offended by cursing: GET A LIFE. Your precious kid isn't going to hell for saying the 'f' word.

i chose no because seriously they should say whatever gets there feelings out and if swearing does it, then let them swear.

plus, if the parents didnt want their kids to hear the swearing just dont buy the CD for their kid..or get an edited copy!

Of course not. If people have a problem with swearing in songs, don't listen to it. Simple as that.

My kids listen to Green Day with and without me. ( They are 10 and 13) The way they do their swearing in music doesn't bother me or their father. We both swear, we try and censor ourselves a little around the kids, but I figure that they hear way worse than any Green Day cd when they are hanging out w/friends or at school. I am more concerned w/them listening to music that would promote violence or hatred to others. Also hardcore sexual references. If I or someone else buys them a cd w/a warning label, we check it out first and make the call.

Umm...have you heard of another mainstream artist? Name : 50 Cent.

Trust me, he swears about 4 times as much as Green Day. Cuz he's a gangsta.

So...no. Green Day are adults. It's not like they're swearing unnecessarily like some kids I know. I get that little 10 year olds are listening to Green Day's music too, but that the parents choice.
