Parents raise their kids, not rock groups. If they don't like the swearing they should do something about it themselves. They just want to find someone else to blame before somebody thinks of blaming them. My parents swore my whole life, i listened to Eminem at age 12 and do i swear? No. My neice wasn't allowed a Green Day cd because of the swearing, but when asked about Eminem? "Ok then." At least Green Day are getting a message across. When the kids at my house copy swearing from say, the internet, we stop them going on the net for a while. And it works. Simple as that.

So no....Green Day shouldn't cut down on swearing just because parents think they should.

if Green Day stopped swearing just because that's what society wanted them to do, they would lose all respect in my mind.

I don't think so. Firstly, Green Day has artistic freedom to whatever the hell they want in lyrics.

Secondly, parents should note the "Parental Advisory" label on the covers of their albums. "Concerned" parents should learn that its their job to help their kids grow up "good, sweet, well-mannered people", not some band/artists'. Plus they have to face the fact that there's nobody left in this world who doesn't know about "bad words". Proof, check out all the hardcore 6th/7th graders hanging around the town.

Thirdly, Green Day makes music for themselves, like Billie said. And not for a bunch of 9 year olds... there are nice, clean bands like Simple Plan for them so tell them to listen to that and leave Green Day to do what they want.

And with that, I rest my case.

"What's the difference between you and me? I do what I want and you do what you're told." - Reject lyrics

That song was written by Billie Joe, in response to a nasty letter written to him by a parent. The parent bought her son a GD album thinking it was for kids. It wasn't and she was outraged. She wrote him a letter. His response was the basis for Reject.

I don't think Green Day should change who they are just because other people want them to. In the world of punk I'm sure that goes hand in hand with punk, changing who you are for someone else, and to sell more records (since they'd be applying to a wider demographic).

Green Day should keep being who they are, and swear if they want to. I say forget the parents.

Green Day has had their share of detractors in the past, this is no different.

The amount of swear words has no effect on the music, so I don't care if they do or don't.

I doubt Green Day cares what parents think. They can put whatever words they want in their music. Billie Joe said "I like using foul language because it gets my point across."

Or he just likes swearing a lot...

Edit: I found the letter

Here is what the person wrote: (Not even worth reading)

And here is Billie's reply:

:woot:

Edit: Oh, it's already up.

no!if they don't want their kid to hear that kind of word, don't let him hear this music!

and sure no one said "yes" because no one cares if they are swearing in their songs.that's what the wnt to sing so they will sing it!you don't want to hear this-don't hear it!=\

I didn't even notice them swearing that much. Might mean that either they really don't do it that often or that nowadays one doesn't even notice that anymore, because pretty much everyone is become accustomed to it.

Personally I don't really care. Swearing doesn't bother me, my parents do it all the time. I do think Billie's swearing to the crowds could be limited just a little but other than that it doesn't bother me. If parents don't want their children listening to those kind of words, then they shouldn't let their children have the CD's. There is a "Parental Advisory" sticker on there for a reason. So when they hear those words in the music they shouldn't be shocked because they were forwarned with the sticker.

And about the kids swearing, that has nothing to do with the music. Kids know they aren't allowed to say things like that. Parents should have better control over their children.

No, it isn't so bad anyway. I mean, they also make songs without swearing in it. They're not outdoing it.

And what's the best way of getting your point/message across?
