No. Plain and simple. If you don't like cursing, suck it up and listen to the edited versions.

What is with people thinking even young children learning swear words is something to be dealt with like small pox anyway? I learned the word "fuck" when I was 7 or so. I imagine if I ever have children they'll learn it around the same age. I'm not going to tell them not to curse, just make sure they know the context and proper times. Not when company is over, not to or at your teachers, not in casual conversations with strangers, not pointlessly. If you want to curse around your friends when you are just with your friends, or when you get frustrated, or when you are singing along to music you like in the car - perfectly fine.

One of the things about Green Day is that they... kind of stand for saying what you want, and not editing or censoring yourself. So, them limiting their swearing for the benefit of parents who had an issue with it would go totally against the Green Day motto.

Anyone remember that letter an angry parent wrote to Billie Joe when Insomniac came out? And his reply?

Exactly, all children are going to hear swear words one way or another. Like with a million other things you just have to teach them which situations it's inappropriate to use them in.

Although when they're really young, at the stage where they'll repeat anything they hear but are too young to understand if words are appropriate or not, best to avoid them hearing them :D. I have a 3 year old nephew so I know that haha.

Definitely NOT

and why should they?

They can say what they want and it would be ....hm hipocritical? cause they alwas say everyone should say what he/she wants to say and then they wouldn't do that cause some parents freak out a bit?

I don't really care for swearing, but yeah sometimes you need to swear to get your meaning across to people, to get someone's attention...

no...billie explained why he does it and well...no.

they always did..I don't see the point why they should stop it...all those kids are certainly not listening ONLY to green day and there are loads of other bands swearing, too...

I can see the point of the parents though...if you look at the albums you don't expect to hear so much "fuck" in it... and well...if you see them in interviews it's quite obvious that billie joe IS able to articulate very well (if he wants to) and he knows how to say things...and they do look like really nice guys.. so..for them it could be unexpected... :shifty:

I personally love it

Of course not. If they feel like saying fuck they say it and that shouldn't be a problem to anyone. They are adult men, and rock stars for fuck's sake. You don't have to listen to their music or watch interviews if you don't want to hear bad words.

Sometimes I feel they use it too much. In their songs, no. Maybe only a few times I didn't feel one was necessary. As for talking in person, I don't think it's necessary for them to be like, "Hi, I'm in a fucking band called Green Day and we fucking play fucking music and we fucking do lots of fucking other stuff."

You know what I mean.

I figure there is a parental advisory label on the CD already and if parents dont want their kids to listen to it, dont buy it. If your kid is old enough to get the CD on their own, they probably are old enough to hear fuck a few times. There are worse things parents should focus on their kids not getting than a CD with a few bad words. Atleast the message is good, unlike a lot of material these days.

Parents who buy green day CD's for their children and hear f-words and start complaing are stupid. Because

1. Why did you buy a Green Day album in the first place, if you are a normal person you would know they swear alot

2. Did you even see the parental advisory sticker?!

3. Why would you buy albums which has cover art as a heart in someones hand, two people making out, dookie (self explanatory), insomniac's cover art is creepy, two faces with yellow stickers on thm saying nimrod., having blood sex and booze and jackass on warning tracklist on the back, three guys posing in a funny way on the back of international superhits, and a gun toting girl on the front Kerplunk! for your child. By looking at the cover you would think this is something for an adult!

4. Did i mention you're stupid?

Green Day shouldn't cut down on the swearing, it gives their songs that angst which makes every one of their songs great!!

I don't think they curse that much at all. I wouldn't say they should curse less or more; whatever lyrics they want to come up with, even if there's some colourful words here and there, I'd be fine with. I mean, as long as they don't make songs that have every single other word being 'fuck' or something.

Fuck no! If parents buy a fucking Green Day album for their kids, they should fucking know that there will be fucking swearing in it! Plus, it's not Green Day's fault that kids swear, there are HEAPS of bands out there who swear more than they do

Fuck no. That's fucking bullshit. fuck that. :D

Too much swearing!

They should swear how much they want but as long is logical and attached to the lyrics. like saying the word fuck fuck fuck evey second can be annoying even it's from Green Day.

No, I am a parent and it is not Green Day's job to control what my kid listen too. It is mine. I am fine with my kid listening to music with swearing in, I would rather she listened to a few swear words in Green Days songs than some of the sexist crap music about shaking their ass or whatever they sing about. At least Green Days music encourages her to be herself, stand up for what she believes and not be a sheep! better than most pop music.
