I just don't understand why people get their panties in a bunch over the use of swear words in Green Day's music.

It's punk music what do you expect? Billie Joe once said that he loved to use the English language against itself.

They are a punk band preforming puck rock music this isn't a "Sesame Street"for petes sake! Warning sticker or no

warning sticker common sense tells you if it's a punk rock band then you can bank on it that there will be some

swearing in their music. It's not just people, look at Wal-Mart. They wont sell Green Day's music but they carry rated "R"

movies and they even sell guns. I guess that nudity and violence isn't as bad as few swear words. I mean What The Fuck

is that all about? It's very hypocritical of them to do that and makes absolutely no fucking sense to me. My motto

has always been '"Do what you say and say what you mean!" This in between shit pisses me off more than anything.

I mean come on Wal-Mart you can't just pick and choose like that. Either they cut it all out or none of it. Green Day

has never been in between they always do what they say and fucking say what they mean and they don't give a shit

what others think about it. When Billie writes a song he doesn't pick and choose his words because of what others

may say or think about it. They do not compromise their music to suit someone else's choice of words. Green Day

is and always have been about their music, and not about compromise. This is not exactly "leave it to beaver" land

we all live in now a days anyway. So if a few swear words are going to hurt someone's delicate ears they are going to

have a very tough road ahead of them in this world we live in today. So to all of the whiners & complainers I say... Get

Over Yourself!

I've listening to Green Day since I was 10 years old and he knew about all the swearing and he didn't give a fuck.

No. They don't even swear a whole lot in comparison to a bunch of other artists.

If anything, maybe Billie could keep himself from saying "fucking" every other word during concerts, but even then it's not a huge deal.

Hell no! It's freedom of speech.. And besides, it's punk rock music. The majority of punk music has swearing in it. What do you expect?

no

they should just say whatever they want. i do hate when people just throw swears in songs because they want to sound cool, but with green day every word has meaning. stronger words = stronger reaction. im not fucken around has a total different ambiance than im not screwing around. the swears are put in for a reason and if those parents dont like it they can change bands but they cant change green day

NO! There's never swearing enough- :whistle

Sometimes the best way to express yourself, even if you're happy, is swearing.

I like it, 'cause they're no potty mouths or anything like that, they just know put the right word in the right sentence. And at concerts, for example, people say 'fuck' or 'shit' a lot louder and happy than the rest of the song!

Well spoken.

They've opened my mind up to so many different things (and they've certainly turned me into a potty mouth), so if Green Day were to stop swearing, it would almost be like backing out on a promise, or denying someone enlightenment.

Plus, it's because of them that my parents don't notice when I swear around them.

No. I think the people who are offended by it should just limit their sensitivity and paranoia.

Fuck no. They're a fucking PUNK band (whatever anyone else says. They ARE punk) for Christ's sake. They do whatever the hell they want, and that's what punk is sort of about, you know? They're not going to change or compromise their creative integrity just because it doesn't fit with someone else's set of what's appropriate and what isn't. Take the whole Wal-Mart thing as an example.

Fuck is just another word. Like Billie said, "I like to use the English language against itself in a lot of ways" or something to that effect.

And it's so fucking entertaining when Billie Joe fucking Armstrong fucking swears every other fucking word, goddammit.

I probably just repeated what a lot of people said. Sorry if I did

Geez, I knew all these words before I even got into Green Day.. That's what happens when you go to SCHOOL!!

It's their music, they can say whatever the hell they wanna say. If you don't like it then don't fucking buy it. It really is that simple.

As far as kids go, if parents set the example, kids will usually follow. Especially if they know that they're gonna get in trouble for swearing.

I don't swear at home. Firstly, I'll get in trouble, secondly, I don't find the need. Even when I want to, I just bite my tongue. I do, however, swear a bit more at school and with friends...and on GDC, because it's acceptable to do so (to a limit) without any consequences.

So it's pretty much up to the parents. They are the ones with the final say. It's their job to instill values in their kid at a young age and reinforce those values as the kid grows up.

They shouldn't be blaming anyone but themselves for their child's upbringing.

if someone is offended by swearing then they'd probably be offended about the lyrical content of Green Day's music.

what are warning labels on the CD for anyway?

Seriously? The PC police need to keep their hands off of Green Day. They are and always should be allowed to use any words they choose in their song writing and during performances. No one is being forced to listen to the music or to attend their concerts. Simple solution, don't listen if it offends you. I am amazed that there are people that use this forum who believe Green Day should swear less. I think you're in the wrong place. Censorship scares the living fuck out of me.

Also, as a parent myself, I find it ridiculous that people think that children should not be exposed to swearing(in general, but especially in music). I swear, I listen to music with swearing, and I watch television with swearing and I don't think I should have to stop just because I am a parent. Don't get me wrong, I don't go out of my way to expose my children to swear words, but my children do hear swearing in our home and outside the home both at school and around town. It is MY job as a parent to educate my children about the appropriate use of language. I have taught my kids that as children, swear words are not appropriate for them to use. They have been made well aware of places where swear words should not be used by adults such as school or in the work place. I have taught them that it is disrespectful to swear in the presence of their elders(including parents, grandparents, and teachers etc.) and anyone who might be offended by such language. My children are all excellent students who consistently exhibit exemplary conduct at school. None of my children have ever sworn in my presence nor have they be caught doing so at school. I am not naive to think that they never swear. They probably do, but they have obviously listened well to the lessons I have taught them. I take the time to listen to music and watch films with my children and we often have long discussions about the content. I decide for myself if it is suitable for them, I don't let some parent advisory label make that decision for me. It is ludicrous to suggest that people would not swear if swear words were removed from Green Day's lyrics. Education and common sense is really all it takes people.

On last point. I have never found a more powerful or versatile word than FUCK! I love it and I will never give it up! I hope Green Day never does either! :bunny:

I just had to add this link:

I don't think green day should limit their swearing because, it keeps the songs interesting, & it really shows how bad a** they are & still don't give a f*** about what anyones says about them, so NO :-)

So true, so true

As far as the question, no. Green Day sing about being yourself and not taking shit from people. Now if they censored themselves, they'd be going against that. I also disagree with music censorship in general. If you don't like it, don't listen. As for parents saying their kid's swear more because of music, they should just take a walk through a public school. I learned to swear like a sailor long before I listened to Green Day, or hell, rock music in general.
