JunkiexHeart
So Glen Matlock loves them and writes magazine columns on how great they are, while all Lydon can do is call them.... plonk. Haha. What a fucking loser. What? So they can't have diffrent opinions, like? He could probably DO more, but really, if you don't like a band you don't want to spend time an effort finding clever ways to slag them off. He could probably DO more, but really, if you don't like a band you don't want to spend time an effort finding clever ways to slag them off. Evidently they can have different opinions, but they should logically have similar ones, seeing as the whole point of Lydon's argument is that he was a 'proper punk' and they're not, whereas Matlock was exactly the same, but can like them because they're taking 'punk' music to new levels. I'm sure he could do more, something like constructive criticism would be nice, but all he does is call them plonk. If he went into a little amount of detail on why he thinks they're so bad, then people wouldn't be taking the piss. But he didn't do that, did he? Perki
Wasn't Rotton on Richard & Judy's chatshow a few weeks back, promoting some new programme he's making an idiot of himself on? Says it all really
NC_Idiot
i wonder how many sex pistols fans on this forum now are all "ugh, i hate the sex pistols" i find it funny that some people might think that. we may not agree or like what he is saying, but he is allowed to have his own opinion. They are very overrated even though i like em.
zoki
I can bet so many people are gonna come out with "Ooh, well Sex pistols weren't punk either!" They weren't. Punks are care free and do things their own way. The sex pistols were assembled like a boyband, and cared too much about what people thought, and still think of them. They weren't directly 'created' by him. He liked to think he was doing everything, but really all he did was get them all together, but that was with the other members aswell Also, on many songs, he told lydon what to write about....hmm how "punk". He assembled them, and he absolutly controlled them.
Kleptomaniac
They have influences but they are not punk. People need to read into stuff more before they jump the gun.
The Doctor
i dont see what "plonk" is supposed to mean. but anyway, we all know johnny rotten is a bitter old man. id love to sit here and argue with you, but i know im right A plonker is a British term for a stupid person. Plonk is probably derived from that.
zoki
as far as music goes, that guy cant say anything about green day. sex pistols were basically a flash in the pan band, made ONE album, which have about 6 good songs on it. sex pistols were a big corporate band, just because their image was more rebelious doesnt mean it wasnt a scam for money. i just hate that guy. Agreed. If only people actually did reaserch on the Sex Pistols instead of blindessly supporting Lydon, who is the most overrated moocher out there. Their image was the most important thing about them at the time. Oh to shop at a store called Sex, damn right, your hardcore. note: Last line was complete sarcasam. Not really... I still like both bands the same. If someone says something about a band I like, I'm not going to freak out. They're entitled to their opinon. Were just not entitled to listen to it That's actually in the freedom of speech act. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but no one is forced to like it or care about it. Something like that. zoki
i don't think it's possible for johnny rotten to sell out because he has no integrity in the first place. I finally agree with you, for the first time.

u_gotta_smile
i wonder what billie, mike and tre think of what johnny said. they have said in the past how they were fans on the sex pistols and were influenced by them - it must be hard to have one of your idols say stuff like that about you what do you guys think? They usually try not to care what other people say so why should they care now? But it must hurt deep down. I doubt they've even heard it though. Nah I don't think so. Billie has said numerous times that he thinks john lydon sucks. Even before this incident, around 2000, might have been even earlier. I don't think it bothers Green Day at all though. I mean people can say what they want but they wouldn't have made the music and wore the clothes if they themselfs didn't want to. But I suppose if they find out one of thier idols had said that kinda thing about them it would hurt them a bit, even if they don't show it. He said in an interview last year that Green Day is more punk than the Sex Pistols ever were. And he's right. Over on the GSB board some girl said that it made her mad when Billie said that because the Sex Pistols were the only true punks, or something like that. I pissed myself laughing. Damnitgirlie
Good Lord, I hate people like this! So no one else can be a rap singer because they aren't NWA. They didn't earn it by being thugs, pissing people off, getting censored by the Gore's of the world, so they can't call themselves rappers? They didn't pioneer it, so they can't BE it? Punk is more then a music style and its more then a style of dress. Its an attitude. Its a belief. Its a way of life. Its inside, not outside. Like its somehow Green Days fault that the battle isn't as tough in the same ways. I've said it before. Not all mud slinging involves real mud. Not all battles involve real weapons. Not all conflict is physical. DUH! "They didn't earn their wings to do that and if they were true punk they wouldn't look anything like they do." " Real punk looks like anything it wants. Its anarchy It defies definition and restriction. It doesn't follow rules, even the rules of Punk Gods (or those who think they're gods) It bucks the system, questions authority, and screams "fuck off " to anyone that doesn't like it. Maybe Rotten is just jealous. If he had done it right the first time...he could have been Green Day.
zoki
haha. "if they were true punk they wouldn't look anything like they do" Oh so there is a certain dresscode? Didn't he himself say during ultimate albums that clothes are fun, but they aren't what important ( something along the lines of that) and now they should, live up to the REAL punk clothing style? fuck off. cellophaneice
I think its pretty harsh to say something like that: "they're bandwagoning on something they didn't come up with themselves. I think they are phony." Pleanty of people are playing a style of music that they didn't come up with.
