rudiecantfail
TOTALLY. Seriously, if it wasn't for Green Day I probably woudln't listen to 95% of the bands I do today. I forget where I heard it, some show, but anyways someone said Green Day introduced kids to punk rock who didn't even know they liked punk rock. So THANK YOU GREEN DAY
Burningice
The year before I started listening to Green Day, I was listening to a lot of main stream stuff, I'd watch MTV pretty often. I listened to like 75% rock and 25% rap. My favorite stuff was like Good Charlotte, Blink-182, Yellowcard, that type-a-shit. Then when I got into Green Day, I think I slowly discovered my real taste in music I guess.

~*johanna*~
I've listened to about every kind of music my whole life, aside from hip-hop & rap. (But there are ocasionally songs I enjoy.) I love rock (hard, dark, ska, punk, classic, etc.), jazz, classical, world (african, south american, russian, celtic, etc. ), and some country & pop. So, I can't really say GD has changed my musical taste. My musical taste has always been really broad.
DeathOrGlory
Yeah, definitely. I was into mainstream crap until I heard Dookie. As corny as it sounds, that CD really got me into music and got me to start listening to punk rock in particular. Without that album I may have never discovered music
sullenriot16
Not really...another band that I used to like--before Green Day--was what got me listening to the kind of music I do.
sweetie_vane
Totally True for me.... I just to be such a goodie goodie and listened to music that was really pop... then gradually started changing to rock...and now I love punk music!! My friends think I'm crazy but i love it...Green Day totally changed the type of music i listen to now...I still have other artists I listen to but I feel that Green Day beats them all.... Lotus Eater
Not really. I think my musical taste was pretty much established before I really got into Green Day. I think it'd be more accurate to say they kind of snuck in there. As for listening to bands because of Green Day...it's either the bands they've influenced, and I think a lot of us agree that most of those bands suck...or it's the bands that Green Day talks about as their influences, and well, frankly they aren't as good either. Now, the band that definitely defined my musical taste is The Beatles. No question. I'm so grateful that I started listening to them at an early age, because they pretty much gave me an education on good music.
Guest Immortality
First time I heard Green Day I fell completely in love. Then reading about them I found out about the whole scene that had spawned them and I fell in love with punk rock. Now it's pretty much all I listen to. What other bands do you listen too? I've never heard you talk about any other good bands you like. For me, yes. I was listening to Eminem and pop stuff, anything that was on z100 because I had no idea what was out there. I was listening to The Beatles because my dad got me into them, but I wasn't so obsessed with them. When I heard BOBD on the radio, I went and looked up the band and started downloading songs. It was really different than what I was used to. It was blunt, it was offensive (not to me, but I could see how it would offend others), and it made a point. And it had it's own sound. It wasn't a goddamn boy band like the backstreet boys or dreamstreet. It was this unique, rich sound and I loved it. Soon after I discovered bands like The Matches, Jet Lag Gemini, The Network, The Ramones, etc. It completely switched me from rap/pop to punk rock. I also got into oldie stuff like The Who, The Eagles, and The Grateful Dead. And somehow I got into gothic music, but that didn't have much to do with Green Day. Needless to say, everytime I turn on the radio, I laugh at myself and ask, "What was I thinking back then?"
StrayJr
I was into punk long before I heard of GD, but yes, they've added more taste to my music. I agree with mbk, I really got into old punk from the late 80's early 90's, such as Crimpshrine and The Riverdales; amazing shit.
Hannah.
Before I'd heard Green Day, I used to listen to stuff like Britney and Christina haha, but yeah, I was about 9 or 10 years old when I really mega started to like GD and it was them who got me into all the bands I like now, like, MxPx, Sugarcult, and all that jazz... so yeah, GD definitely changed my taste in music. But since I was 14 or so, my taste in music has changed even more. I'm more open-minded about what I listen to, and I don't just stick to one genre of music like I used to. dumbstruck27
I've never been into the whole punk music stuff. I got into Green Day pretty young (about 10) only because it's what my 17 year old brother used to listen to all the time, so it was all I heard. But I've found I'm more into rock than punk. I love Green Day's music to death, but when told about punk bands that people think I would like because I love Green Day, I can only listen to so much. I'm into a lot of rock and indie music now, and a lot of local stuff, which is mainly rock, sometimes a little punk, but nothing hardcore punk. People often get surprised when they know of my other music interests before they hear of my Green Day obsession. They think I should be one of those people who hates the modern Green Day sound, because most of the people who are into my kind of musc hate modern Green Day. Met Fan
Green Day softened me up, I used to be satan back in college heh They didn't change it as much as they just added to it and untied my "only metal" rules.
Whatsername1986
Before Green Day, I was listening to Pop, R&B and Rap music. If it weren't for Green Day, I would be listening to Destiny Child, 50 Cent and other awful music. In a way, Green Day introduced me to some groups like the clash, the ramones, Stiff Little Fingers and The Pretenders.
rockchick86
i used to mainly like older music like 60's 70's and 80's music so i suppose green day did change my music taste!
spark in the night
the reason I got into Green Day so late in their career (when American Idiot came out) was because all the music at my school was pop, r&b, hip hop, etc etc.. there really werent any real "rockers" or "punks" at my school. So all I used to listen to was the rap, r&b, crap. I did like some rock bands cuz of my dad lol. like ACDC, Aerosmith, Nirvana, Nickelback(ew) then I found Green Day and my whole world changed. I dont ever ever listen to any other music besides rock. They introduced me to a lot of the old 70's punk bands like Clash, Ramones, Buzzcocks, X-ray Spex, etc etc. and im a totally different person because of it. my attitude is different (but that could be for other reasons too) My views on life and politics are different, and I dont think I would ever pick up a guitar if it wasn't for watching Billie just shred guitars like that. thank you Green Day for showing me what REAL music is I also agree with what Immortality said. thats kinda how I was too
luvgirlcl
Green Day did change my taste, in a way. Now I'm really more into rock, as before I only listened pop and shitty pop. There's a part of me that still likes pop, but good, substancial pop. But I think that my taste is still changing. Now what I look for in music is more on the lyrical side of stuff, songs that do say something, not really caring what type of music it's, now I like stuff that to me at least has more depth, because that what I really grabbed from Green Day, that thing where you can say something so meaningful and something that really gets you, and I love songs that when I hear them, they tug at my heart. St. Jenny
I loved all old music and didn't really listen to anything, i did the worst thing, i went along with whatever was trendy pretending to like the popular stuff just because everyone else did. And then I started listening to green day nad now my music collection is so broad. I still love old stuff but if i dont like a song i wont pretend to, that just seems so stupid to me now. Anyway, green day rule, so there.
gdroxmysox
my family is more of the 'classical music' type...so when i bought dookie my parents were like- do you have a fever or something? i don't care if i'm the musical outcast of my family...GREEN DAY IS THE BEST!!!! ...so yeah...they changed my taste for the better
Todapus
Completely! I only started really getting into music a few years ago, by listening to pop radio stations. I always preferred when they played "rock" songs but I by no means hated any of the pop crap. When I started listening to Green Day, I realized how bad everything was that I used to like so I starting searching for more rock and punk rock music. Now I like a whole new spectrum of music which is basically rock (any kind, classic, punk, alternative, indie, arena, 80s hair bands, even some metal). I dont really like pop music any more (well new stuff, bands like the beatles will always be awesome). So even though I always liked rock, for some reason Green Day really brought it out in me and inspired me to look for new music.
