Astatic 77A
Hey all, im new to the board, but a long time Green Day fan. I started listening to green Day just before Dookie came out. they widened my horizons musically, i wouldnt say they opened the door, but the at least cracked it for me. In fact i wouldnt have picked up a guitar or been interested in songwriting if not for Nimrod (which i still think is their best record!). So in a strange way i have Green Day to thank for my career. So to answer the question did they change my musical taste? Absopositively.
No Rhyme Or Reason
Green Day kind of changed my music taste, but I also started listening to them kind of because my music taste was changing: Up until 2004, I had grown up listening to country music (like you, Andres!) because that's what my mom listened to. (Actually, she only started listening to country when I was born, because she thought ACDC and Van Halen and whoever else she really liked weren't good for a little girl to hear...?) Anyway, around the beginning of the year I started thinking that I didn't really like country, so I started getting random pop/rock CDs from like Avril Lavigne and a few random bands I randomly discovered, like Garbage. Then, in the summer, I decided to make an official switch to pop rock music, so I started watching MTV and VH1 to discover good music. I formed almost my entire music taste based on what was popular that year. Luckily for me, Green Day's "American Idiot" was one of the first songs I found, and when BOBD came out, I loved it even more! My dad bought me American Idiot in 2005, but I hated it the first time I listened to it! I didn't even finish the CD! A few months later my dad convinced my to listen to it again, so I did and I loved it. I listend to it again right after that, and I've been a Green Day fan ever since. After I started collecting their CDs, I started liking their punk rock sound more and more, and I started being more drawn to that style of music in other bands, so I started collecting more music of that general genre. I was lucky I switched to pop rock when I did, because it might have been another 5 years before I would have discovered Green Day otherwise!
