Fanny.
Growing up, I was pretty much only listening to my parents' music that was playing in the house and in the car, which means bands like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Clash, the Who, Billy Idol, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, U2, Genesis, David Bowie and others. I remember the first band I liked was the Backstreet Boys before primary school haha. As my own music taste was developing, I began to listen to bands like Blink 182, Good Charlotte, the Black Eyed Peas, Simple Plan, Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne. The only band I still listen to among them is Blink. Then when I was 11, I discovered Green Day with American Idiot. Through them I discovered other bands like The Living End, The Fratellis, The Exploding Hearts and more. Idk if they really changed my music taste, but they certainly expanded it. JaseminTheIdiot
They absolutely changed my music taste. Before I became a Green Day fan my music taste was crap. I heard something like Eminem But this is the past, now I'm a proud Green Day fan for more than 7 years
angry_robot
In some kind of way, but not much really. I've always liked rock music (maybe when I was 5-7 or so I enjoyed crappy pop music, but it doesn't really counts, cause I was just a little girl =)) Then I started to listen rock and discovered Green Day. Since then they took special place in my heart. I also adore ska and it doesn't really relates with Green Day, so I've got different music tastes. But Green Day, yeah, it's some part of me. My love for them is strong and constant.
Amber.
Green Day didn't really change my musical taste. I still listen to the artists or bands that I listened to before I discovered them. They just widened my knowledge and introduced me to so many different bands. Before I heard of them, I didn't really know a lot about music, but after I started really getting into them is when I started becoming more and more interested in music, therefore broadening my library. Graysen
I think Green Day did change my music taste when I had first started listening to them. Prior to Green Day, I was mostly listening to whatever was "cool" at the time, and my attachment to music was nothing like it is now. Green Day certainly had an influence on what I liked from then on. I would mostly listen punk, alternative, etc... but I've slowed started straying from those restrictive music tastes, and now I basically listen to whatever I like, which now spans a range from: electronic to symphonic rock. However, most of my music is still very much made up of alternative artists and bands.
Kristen M
I've only been a Green Day fan since 2009 and before that I was listening to blink-182 and My Chemical Romance, and a lot of classic rock actually (strange for a sixth grader) and before that I went through the whole "I'll just listen to whatever pop radio plays" phase. Then 21st Century Breakdown came out an completely blew me away as did all their other music. I've never been able to listen to MCR or blink-182 the same way I did before Green Day because Green Day is just SO much better! Haha so yeah I think they did change my taste in music
Kayleigh.
A tiny bit. Before Green Day, I mostly listened to indie. And the classic rock my parents always played for me. After Green Day, I got more into punk stuff like The Ramones and The Clash because I wanted to listen to their influences, but I still listen to a lot of classic rock. It didn't really change all that much, but I got in to a lot more stuff because of them.
Danger!
I wouldn't say Green Day changed my musical taste but they sure as hell curved it. I mean, because of them I'm into punk, metal, old school rap, and classic rock. I still do actually like NSYNC and damn proud to say that. I just think they opened up my eyes into more genres of music and helped me appreciate it more... but I mostly listen to punk. XD
k-tea
I think Green Day definitely changed my musical tastes, they really opened up my eyes to what more is out there. Before them I really just listened only to whatever was on the radio. When I first became a fan I exclusively began listening to alternative and rock. Since then, Green Day has remained my favorite band, but now I listen to a lot of genres. On my iPod now I have everything from dubstep to a little bit of country. What I listen to just depends on my mood.
whowroteholdencaulfield?
it didn't "changed" just like that, but I must admit now I don't pre-judge music much now, and I learned to apreciate lots of stuff I didn't know. The Clash, for example.
Marie Armstrong Punx
i never listened to music actually-.- untill the day i was chillin' with my friend, and she played green day (just some of the most popular songs) and i kinda liked it.at home i then switched on mtv, and there was the same song again playing. i wanted to find out more, coz i thought "man those guys look hot and make awesome music!" so i downloaded few songs. after a while i did some research about them and found GDA and stuff. that was really amazing. and now i'm totally into green day so i also got into that punkrock, hardcore punk, hardrock and metal-scene, and that's where i am now
KilljoyFromDetroit
Yep, i used to listen to rap and pop because thats what i heard all the time, and the first time i heard green day i liked them but fell back to the crqp music, then not even a year ago i "rediscovered" my love for green day and now im obsessed like most of us here and i only listen to alternative/punk/indie rock stuff, i cant stand much other stuff, especially the stuff i used to listen to

Undómiel
Didn't change it per say. Just shone a light onto the punk side of music that I had really investigated (other than Black Flag) before then. Got me into The Ramones, The Clash, The Buzzcocks, Dead Kennedys, Generation X etc... so glad it did.
Kid A
As I said, The Offspring cruised me into liking punk rock music in General. So Green day was just an addition. But I still think Green day is the best band in the world. I also listen to 80's rock like this: I still love it.
kristóf
Oooh, they really did. I was like 10 or 11 when I heard them. Before Green Day I was listening radios, and they were broadcasting Backstreet Boys and stuff... After I found Green Day, I never liked this kind of music. DorkWithAFork
Not really. I was grown up on punk rock, classic rock and 80's pop. The only time I ever really listened to pop was when I was with my friends. Green Day did kind of change my aspect, though, because I really did get into them and tried to learn every single fact about them. It's sprung a lot of other obsessions

Elena
yes, they did. when i was a little kid i didn't like punks and punk rock...i even was scared of punks, that's what everyone tells you: that punks are agressive and mean and live on streets always with a bottle of beer in their hands (also a reason why they get agressive easily in almost everyone elses mind) ....so i always listened to pop music....and ok...some green day songs - but just the ones that play often on the radio....but then i started listening to it a little bit more and loved it and also found out that punk isn't as bad as everyone said ...yeah and after listening to green day i started listening to some other punk bands and love it, so they complety changed my taste in music....first i just listened to pop music and now i listen to punk rock...and just some pop songs
bajenna
I didn't really have my own music taste before Green Day, I just listened to what my big brothers listened.. And also what my parents listened to.. I liked one finnish female pop punk band, but.. it was nothing big. When I heard of Green Day, and got hooked to their music, it changed a lot! I found an identity, and a music taste!
Undómiel
Yes! A lot! Green Day was the first real "rock band" I heard. I kinda ignored them for a bit, I had some of their stuff but I was going through my ultimate teenie faze of worshipping the ground My Chemical Romance walked on (I still love them - just not quite as ). Then I started listening to Green Day a lot more and fell in love. Then decided I would go off an explore the punk scene from whence they came a bit more; hence discovering (for myself) Op Ivy, Generation X, The New York Dolls, The Stooges, The Ramones, The Clash etc... oscar is a nimrod
Green Day changed my life! I'm not even lying a little bit. I have found out so much about music throughout the last five years since i discovered american idiot and have become passionate about music in general. I only use to listen to obscure pop rock that only i knew. Now I listen to hundreds of punk bands and rock bands. I have become a fan of many bands because of green day, most importantly, The clash,The sex pistols, Rancid, The buzzcocks, The UK subs, Generation X, Sum 41, Blink 182, Motorhead and most recently Operation ivy. I wish there was a way I could thank them for opening my eyes to a whole new world and one that I actually feel comfortable in
Melafun
Ya before Green Day I listened to what ever my mom was listening to don't get me wrong it was great but I just didn't have my own music that I loved till I found them. Now I listen to a lot more punk and hard rock.
LouLou
Actually they did. I was pretty much listening to mostly country, only just starting to listen to rock a bit...then I heard Minority and couldn't get the freaking song out of my head. So I went out and bought Warning and then started to look into their other songs and found a bunch I had known from when i was in elementary school. I fell in love with them quickly and next thing I know I was no longer listening to country, I was listening to rock and learning so much about music that I had never known before. For me music began to really "exist" and my whole life changed. I quick being so girly and dropped my heels for a pair of chucks, my skirts for jeans and never looked back. I feel like since then, I have changed do much and I have a much better person. I like myself so much more now and have so much more confidence in myself, more than I imagined I could have.
