I used to just listen to whatever was on the radio, you know, the popular stuff. Then my cousin introduced me to Green Day and the more I got into them the more my music taste swayed away from 'popular music'. I'm so glad they changed my musical taste.

  • 5 months later...

They changed my musical interests a lot. Before I heard Green Day I listened to shit music like Ke$ha, pretty much my genre was Top 40. Then Green Day came into my life. Now I listen to pop-punk/punk rock. I listen to bands like MCR, Panic! At the Disco, Paramore (but I'm slowly fading from them). I'm listening to the Beatles more too. I'm glad to say that Green Day changed my musical interests for the better:)

I grew up with Rock because that's what my dad listens to. He also liked Green Day so I got into them (without knowing it :D) really early.

So I can't say that they totally changed my musical taste. It's more like I listened to quite everything before I got a huge Green Day fan.

Predominantly Rock and everything, but yeah. Since I love Green Day with all my heart and since I know it's Green Day my dad played out to me when I was a little child..

..they totally got me into that kind of music and I don't listen to anything else now :D

Oh deffinately. I always thought rock music was too loud and for boys only. I loved pop and country and Green Day opened me up to punk rock and rock and roll. Now I don't really like pop or country and all I ever really listen to is GD and the loudest rock music there is. Turns out rock is not just for boys ;)

Well, let’s just say that thanks to Green Day I got into a whole music genre I didn’t know I liked, which is Punk Rock. Because of them I got to know some awesome bands like Bad Religion, NOFX, The Ramones and The Clash.

They also re-enforced my taste for variety.

Up until a year or so ago, I listened to country because that's what everyone else in my family liked basically. When I first heard Green Day, I liked them, but not totally. But, eventually, I did get into Green Day and they have changed my musical taste. I have started getting into more rock and roll and stuff. I got more into The Beatles, My Chemical Romance, Queen etc and I am trying to delve into punk rock more by listening to The Who and The Sex Pistols. SO, yes they did change my musical prefrences.

Green Day has definitely had an influence over my musical tastes recently...I'm learning about a lot of great bands that I may have totally passed up if it weren't for some of the cover songs, etc, that Green Day does. I'm totally mad about Walking Out On Love!

I listened to Avril Lavigne and was leaning towards straight pop music before I recieved American Idiot for Christmas one year, and remembered what real music was, and from then on was saved by Green Day.

When I was very young, I was listening to the Backstreet boys (and I still listen to them hihi!), but my parents were listening to their old classic rock music like ACDC, Metallica, U2, led zepplin, rush, pink floyd and many more, so I was interrested to rock music. And then one of my friends at elementary school was listening to linkin park, system of a down, blink-182, sum 41 and I really starded to love rock music. I also liked Avril lavigne and Simple Plan. So Green Day didn't changed my musical taste because I already loved rock music, but I think that because of them, my love for rock music is always growing! and it made me want to descover even more rock bands, underground music etc.

I grew up listening to classic rock...my first CDs, though, were The BackStreet Boys and the Baha Men (the latter mainly because of Who Let The Dogs Out; I rarely listened to the BSB). When I started listening to Green Day, I discovered similar artists like The Offspring, MCR, and 30 Seconds to Mars. Recently though, my friend Corey has had more of an influence on my music tastes than Green Day has. I've become a fan of Epica, Nightwish, Van Canto, and TYR because of him.

...However, there is one music genre that I discovered and became a fan of all on my own, and that's Celtic music.

I always liked a little bit of rock music but I used to always listen to rap and basically anything that was on the radio. now ever since I started to listen to green day I realized that you should listen to the kind of music that you like and not all of the crappy mainstream stuff.

They changed mine. I used to listen to pop a few years before I started getting into rock. Then I got into Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory when I was in 11th grade. My 12th grade year I got into Green Day and pretty much dropped all pop rock and emo bands altogether.

Naw. I was already listening to awesome-ness such as QOTSA, Foo Fighters etc before I got into Green Day.

I would say Green Day enhanced it.

I don't think they changed it so much as knocked me back to my senses. I grew up listening to my dad's music: AC DC, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Tragically Hip etc etc. I went through the boyband phase. When Minority came out, I was back on the right track.

When I was little I used to listen to a lot of crappy pop music but in some point my musical taste changed into "retro-style". Since then I've been a huge fan of classic rock.

So Green Day didn't really change my taste, I just started to listen to them when American Idiot came out because I thought they were awesome... But otherwise I'm not into punk.

I used to be into Rap and Hip-Hop quiet awhile for some odd reason and then my friend showed me Green Day, at first I was like...ehh. Then I heard Judge's Daughter and I instantly converted to Rock that one night. Although I still like Beastie Boys and Eminem.

Yes. I used to listen to like.. I don't even wanna mention the bands and artists xD But.. some shitty pop from the eighties and nineties. Not ever really into boybands tho. I listened a bit to what my dad was listening to also,Ozzy, some old swedish punk and rock songs.

Then I got into Green Day at 11/12 years old (I'm 14) and from there I've discovered bands like Dead Kennedys,Operation Ivy,The Replacements and so on.

There are a couple different ways to answer this question. There's a yes, and a no involved. Back when I was around 12, I loved the whole pop sensation. Spice Girls, Britney, Christina, Backstreet Boys, the like. I also liked Blink 182, Sum 41, Simple Plan. (And to be perfectly honest, I was in love with the Waiting video when it premiered on TRL as well, but wasn't really sure who Green Day was. Just the song.) Then popular music changed, and I just... couldn't find anything I liked. I still liked the things I liked before, but it wasn't popular anymore, and I just... gave up on music in general.

Then around 2004, I loathed George Bush. I kept seeing this clip of a video between shows on MTV, and a band singing 'Don't want to be an American Idiot' and I just couldn't get it out of my head, and I was ecstatic to hear something that reflected what I'd felt. I was watching with my dad one day, and it came on, and I was like "THAT! That's the song I've been telling you about!" and he goes "...that's Green Day. I have one of their cds." It was Dookie. He gave it to me, I fell in love. I got American Idiot- I was in love. I continued to collect the albums, and they quickly became my favorite band.

They got me into alot more rock type music as well. But as far as changing my music taste, I don't think that they did. I think they simply expanded it, because I'll admit, I'm still a sucker for that 90's pop.
