punksaves
Yes, Green Day has changed by music taste dramatically. Before Green Day I would just listen to whatever was on the radio and what people at school listened to. I even remember asking my mom for rap and pop cds in like 7th grade, even though I hated all of that music. I just did not know there was anything else out there to listen to, like punk. Before Green Day I really did not see anything in music, but once I started listening to them I realized how much passion went into it. I started really getting into punk rock and liking The Clash, The Ramones, Rancid, Social Distortion, Operation Ivy, and many others. Six years ago music did not mean anything to me, now I don't know what I would do or where I would be without punk rock, especially Green Day. xLuckystarx
Green Day has definitely changed my musical taste. I still listen to pop music, but ever since I heard BOBD I started gravitating towards rock bands. Two years ago, I would have frowned upon the thought of listening to a band like the Clash or the Ramones because they weren't from my generation, plus it wasn't cool to listen to them. I only thought of listening to what was cool, and trying to fit in. Green Day changed all that. They changed my perception of what music was, and that it was ok for me to be different and listen to what I wanted.

the48maychick
It's really GD that got me into music. Before them, I just listened to whatever was on the radio and didn't really give a damn.
Sunshine2385
Absolutley!!! I mean, I had heard of GD when I was 8, but because I was forced to. I've grown up watching their videos and listening to their songs even if I didn't want to bc of my sister. My mom was into easy listening, so I started to like that for the gayest reasons. Then, at 11, I got into pop music. I mean, dude, I had posters of Britney Spears and Nysnc. I had every album too. SOOO sad!! Then, at 16, I had a friend that introduced me to rock music. Even tho I was into Blink182 in middle school, I don't really consider them that punk or rock for that matter. Then, I got into GD around Warning. I heard Minority and fell in love. I realized this was the same band I had grown up listening to since childhood. I went out w/ few gd fans too. The guys loved the fact that I was into them. They're the reason I love Evanescence and other rock, like metal. I'll never go back to any other genre. They're the reason I love rock music and Punk rock as well, thanks to them. GD made me throw out everything I knew about music and start over w/ a clean slate. A.I. made me so obsessed. And I still am!!

kinda0punk
I don't know if I have responded to this thread before, but I'm not going through 16 pages to see if I have.Yes, Green Day pretty much reinvented my ideas of music when I started listening to them. Music hadn't really been a part of my life besides dancing around to N*Sync in my room as a preteen and recognizing a few songs from the music my parents would play in the car. Then the fateful day came that I heard "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" on the radio. No, I will not deny that was the song that got me into Green Day. I said to my father, "Hey, I kind of like this song," and he told me that he had the CD, and lent it to me. I kept that thing in my CD player for weeks, American Idiot was like nothing I had ever heard before. Eventually my dad gave me his other Green Day CDs, Warning, Nimrod, and Dookie (he lost Insomniac and I eventually ended up buying it myself). I remember the excitement of recognizing some songs from Dookie, because I had actually been listening to Green Day for years without realizing it, because my dad would play it sometimes. I actually think it was this site that got me into more bands in this genre/scene, hearing people talk about other bands they liked, seeing them in their signatures, whatever. Eventually I got really into Fall Out Boy, and it all snowballed from there. My tastes vary from stuff like that, pop-punk, to singer song writer stuff like Jason Mraz, John Mayer, and piano rock like Ben Folds, and whatever. Most of it however just comes to rock or whatever with good pop sensibilities like The Format and Say Anything. So actually, as much credit as I would like to give to Green Day for introducing me to this type of music, I have to give this forum just as much.
