Metanoia
Oh yes DEFINATELY !!!! I was totally mainstream listening to what the society was told to. Let's say they changed it yeah. Right before Green Day I was a big Nelly Furtado,Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson fan. well kc i still like but yeah they changed it. and they also opened my taste for other things like jazz or soul. which i never listened to before. JadedHaushinka
I wouldn't really like to say this but they indeed did. I was listening to mainstream before Green Day but when I got into them, I began listening to normal music like punk-rock, alternative and stuff like that. I'm so glad Green Day changed that and have changed my life in another ways too.
Marki.
Absolutely. They opened my eyes to everything - not just 'punk rock music', but music in general.
Maura99
Yep, I guess you can kinda say that. I used to listen to Coldplay all the time; go figure. I've always been very fond off The Offspring though. And I still listen to a lot of different styles of music. They've just... broadened my horizon.
iloveyouisntenough
They really did. Before, I wasn't nearly as into any kind of music like I am now. I just listened to certain songs and what was on the radio. I was never interested in music, mainly because I had never heard the right style. Ever since I started listening to Green Day, I've loved music, and love looking for more great music that I can get into. Nothing has yet to top Green Day
Metanoia
They also opened my taste for all the older bands i never realized before
Nikki_Nimrod
Absolutely! I'm actually embarrassed to say what I used to listen to, because looking back it's just TERRIBLE...haha I listened to Good Charlotte, but that was about the closest to rock n' roll I went (I was ten at the time!) and then after I started listening to Green Day, I got really into the old school punk stuff, like The Clash, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Blondie, etc. & then just pretty much rock n' roll in general, any and all kinds of it...and that's really what I listen to now
susanananananaa
I wouldn't say they changed my musical taste, but they definitely opened a lot of doors, so to say. Since I listen to Green Day, I "discovered" a lot of bands and singers. And if it wasn't for Green Day, I would never have known about Prima Donna and Frank Turner. tonda-gossa
Green Day were certainly one of the bands that changed my perspective on music forever. I think I was eleven when this happened, and it was a rather instant change of pace! Like, "fuck this shit". Along with Billy Talent and Blink, and I will never look back to what I used to bop-out too. *cough*N'Sync*cough* It's a phase we all go through... some of us more than others. Punk-tastic32
Totally. Before Green Day I was just another person at the mercy of the radio and what was 'popular' Now I'm like, 'Fuck this shit' I have bands on my phone's MP3 player that I know everyone I know has never heard of. But now, I'm not afraid of not being 'cool' just for bring different.
Whatsername1222
I would say they just opened the door for punk/alternative, whatever you want to call it, and a whole lot of bands that I wouldn't have listened to before. Other than that I still have a varied taste in music. I love all types of music except for a couple.
Ellenkc
Yeah, I was a real Top 40 girl and I just started listening to more rock in general after I started listening to them. Alot of my favourite bands I've found through Green Day. I never really listen to pop any more, Lady Gaga and all of that just doesn't do anything for me. Rachel Nimrod Armstrong
Hell yeah! JohannaRaeRamone.
Yes! Green Day bailed me out from a very unhealthy obsession, (yes and I mean obsession), with Evanescence. I was a middle schooler at the time and for over two years would NOT listen to/awknowledge anything but Evanescence. It was ridiculous and terrible. However my little sister put American Idiot on our computer, and I kept sneaking listens to it, and it was just so interesting and touching it kinda lured me out. Then I bought Nevermind, and the gates were wide open. Now I have a very diverse and deep music collection. Green Day save the day again!
Doctor Demon
Somewhat. I was about 11 when I got into them. I listened to mostly Bowling For Soup and video game music. Discovering Green Day led to me discovering bands like Alkaline Trio, Rancid, NOFX, The Living End... just all kinds of different groups.
St. Banana
Hell yes. More than that, they basically introduced me to the wonders of music as a whole. Before i got into them, my interest in music was fairly small.
UnderClassHero
well i was more an alternative rock kinda person.. not much difference i guess but green day introduced me to more punk rock.
BrainStew93
I had no taste in music but then I bought American Idiot...after AI I bought Dookie and the other albums...and so my music taste developed Before, I've heard only what has pleased me, certain songs etc.
GenerationZer0
Oh most definitely. I used to listen to terrible generic pop music. Green Day saved me from that.
st.idiot
i already listened to that type of music like green day and blink and sum 41 but i think they also changed my musical taste. i got more into punk because of them. if operation ivy, the replacements, husker du or any of those bands wern't bands or influences on green day i prolly would never listen to them. so yea i guess they did kinda change my musical taste. Christie's_Blvd.
I didn't even have a musical taste before GD to be honest. (I know that I was always taking stuff in though because when I found the song Waiting on YouTube, I already knew the words, which I find creepy) The first song I learnt the words to was Avril Lavigne's Sk8er boi, when I was seven and then I don't remember anything musical until last year when I was eleven. I got an obsession with Taylor Swift, which turned to Paramore which is now Green Day Paramore is my second favorite band and I still like Taylor Swift but I'm so glad I found GD because I listen to music which seriously makes me happy listening to it and I've found out about The Clash, The Ramones, Rise Against and Operation Ivy, not to mention talking music with my dad who's given me bands like Sham 69 and The Undertones so I guess they've changed me. Yes.
St. Banana
I think everyone is born with a musical taste and I dont like to say they changed my taste so much as they helped me find it. Finally, someone has said what I've been trying to find the words for

21st century idiot
Very much, they open me up to music itself. Now I only listen to punk rock, alternative, and pop punk.
Anja
More than I could ever have imagined. Before I discovered Green Day, I listened to stupid pop bubblegum shit. There were some rock acts as well that I listened to but I wasn't really into them. Green Day got me into punk and alternative music as well as the lifestyle. And I'm pretty thankful for that When I look through my cd collection today, I just can't help but shake my head about the music I used to listen to.
