All I want from Green Day is their music, but apparently a lot of people want tacky merchandise as well.

that was nice. :D

I mean, they've signed a contract. now they had to do what ever that contract states. it's the law. the record company manages all thier pulicities and most if not all thier tours. this depends on the contract. it's how it works. the PR team is supose to gage what the proper actions to take.

they want ALL thier fans to get thier music, but in order to do that, they'd have to sign a contract. now the contract with warner at least gave them creative rights from what I've heard. this lets them take what ever direction they want. now as far as what kind of music is written, that's Green Day. as for what shows what comercials, radio spots, cloths and other PR stuff, that's the label. including distribution.

I mean what the hell do you expect?

how

yeah, they have a choice. they can break thier contract with warner. it was the same exact way as it was with Dookie

which brings me back to the point, if they sold out, they've sold out a long time ago.

The question is, have they kept their artistic integrity? all that other shite is just part of the dog and pony show that is the music industry. Fact of the mattter is. you always have a choice, even with a gun to your head. You could choose to die for your beliefes.

eh, Green Day spoke their minds and many of their fans agree politically with them. It was like they were speaking out for the rest of us who couldn't have against Bush. And he got a huge dirt-kick in the face. :) Green Day hasn't taken it to far, the FANS have. They didn't sell underwear, they didn't sell hats, or Tshirts, all they did was make and sell their music. It was the public who drug it kicking and screaming where it is today. i like Green Day because they make me happy. I love learning about them because their music is what makes me happy. I love the words, the soung of Billie's voice and the drums and bass and the guitar. Green Day let out an album that spoke to everyone. most people took it the wrong way.

the press and spotlight the album "American Idiot" has recived since its long time waiting release has been tremendious. i think it will be tough for Green day to out due "american idiot" which sucks. okay just think back to dookie, it was a fanominal album, right?, so good infact that insominac another solid album couldent have a great run because it wasent dookie and it kept getting compared to it which wasent fare same thing with nimrod. do you understand what i mean. the shadow of dookie is gone now thanks to american idiot but is that a good thing ot a bad thing? honestly will Green day be able to make another master piece that will have the same press and reciginition as american idiot. it will be tough but i think they can do it.

and okay lets get one thing staight people hate Green day because there sell-outs? like really, please fuck off. who gives a shit. its driving me insane and i hate how its gotten to the point where people besides teenies hate Green day. why dont we give some thanks and respect for the inovators or Punk rock. they do deserve it.

i'm glad it doesent effect them anymore because i think it would drive them to the point of breaking up which would probably satitsfied all the faggots out there.

stay strong Green day ... i still love you.

I honestly can't wait for the next album. I mean, they are really milking this album for all it's got.

It's a shame it's come to this, but when they make a new album it will sort out the real fans from the posers.

how do you figure that'll happen? for all we know, it'll amass more teenies.

no, i think that means that maybe the new album won't be as good or suck and the teenies will all flock somewhere else. :whistling:

I dont really care if Green Day "sold out" or not. if they continue to make damn good music and have the greatest shows then I'll continue to be a fan.

how good an album is has nothing to do with whether teenies will flock to it or not. look at good charlotte and simple plan.

Totally agree with that. If people think they're getting overplayed, well turn off the damn radio! Think they're overdoing it with all the merchandise?? Who cares! Don't buy it! It's the music that's important, and as long as they keep making great music, i don't give a fuck about the rest.

to be honest if people who say they are fan's really mean it then they wont have a problem. i don't take much notice of all the hype around them. i listen to their music, watch their videos and go to their kickass shows and thats about it. if people think they have sold out and discontinue to listen to them then they were never really a proper fan.

Ugh.

The "hype" had died down months ago. They are barely on T.V anymore. I would know, I watch hour-long programs just to catch a glimpse of them. Doesn't happen very often.

i think they've probably gone too far with the marketing and stuff... but does it really matter?

in my opinion a band like them (talented beyond all reason) can do whatever the hell they want as long as they dont change their music. that's what im paying attention to. and it's not like they KEEP all the money either, they've donated moolah all over the place...

when over marketing gets REALLY annoying is when the band sucks. but green day doesn't so who gives a crap?

as long as a band doesn't start getting all fake/ only doing it for the money i dont think it matters.

calling a band "sellouts" is lame. you either like them or you dont, but you should choose sides based on the quality of the music.

i, however, am a hypocrite. i kinda like some of kanye west's songs but think he's a jerk off soooo... yeah.

id take their place in a heartbeat, so i guess i dont really have any right to talk shit about em. there are a few things i wouldnt have done, like the clothing line, the single choice.

I think its called supply and demand. If the album wasn't so good, people wouldn't have went crazy buying their stuff. The stuff that was out there sold out, so they made more. Then they created more new stuff becuase they knew it would sell. Now maybe they should have held back on that a little, its not my call, but it did create a backlash. I could care less myself. As long as I like their future releases I will continue to buy their albums and pay to see them live.

Yeah, but you can disagree with a band without considering them sellouts...I disagree with some things they did, but at the end of the day, I wouldn't call them sellouts. Just a bit draft sometimes.
