Guest Holden
They did not perform at everyone. I wouldn't say they paraded either. They didn't do big interviews, they did short five minute things like most nominees did. They were courteous enough to answer some questions that they've been asked a million times. They sat through the show just like every other nominee and made an acceptance speech. They didn't do anything different than any other band really, accept that they got more attention because people like them, and the media is trying to play up the AI cd. I doubt they are like, "Gee I hope we can keep going to shows to strut our stuff."I mean, I think it would be pretty shitty if they won and they weren't there to accept it. It would be like, "well we're better than you and we don't care about accepting your damn award." If they did that, people would be complaining that they were assholes. They can't fucking win. People are such cynics and critics that it's disgusting.Yeah it is really annoying when people are so overly critical of such stupid things, isnt it?Its almost like getting all worked up that an admin of a forum started a thread asking for opinions about a new moderator, and then in the end, just went with their original choice...gosh.. people can be so critical, makes me angry, maybe i should complain about it
mclaren
What ones would you consider turning up at , and which are you considering inconsequential? This is a wonderful hypothesis, and really full of the humility you've said Billie so lacks! there are obviously award shows that carry some amount of weight. the grammy's and mtv vma's, for example. mtv europe is where it starts to get stretched. as a by-product of some award shows being totally worthless, however, i can't be bothered to remember what they're even called. I Am The Idiot America
My opinion is...they're starting to age...and when they age, bad things tend to happen. What I want them to do is to bring back some of the old teen angsty punk rock they brought with Dookie and Insomniac..thank god for those albums. Now, I know with AI the true Green Day fans hate it, and to be honest, some of this new crap is getting redundant and getting old VERY fast. Just let the teenies have their spotlight. Then, hopefulyl the guys will come to their senses, though they do have families.

The two things are unrelated and your post had nothing to do with this thread really. All you did was try to make me feel bad for calling a bad move when I see it, and you know what? You failed. I stand by my words, Andres' handled the whole thing like shit. But this isn't the place to argue about it, so why go off topic? It's irrelevant. zoki
which one's didn't they perform at? they even peformed at mtv europe. anyways, do you honestly deny that they milked their success? So what if they preformed and the EMA's, they did it in 1995 aswell, not to mention, they preformed at the VMA's that year too, so what's your point? It's a award show, they got/get nominated for that big awards of the night, they preform, they win. It's a routine with these guys, and I wouldn't have it any other way. And I'm glad Warner is milking this album, it will leave a bigger impact.

Guest Quietus
you know, you're right. they are different. That's not cute either. I know what an analogy is, and his was a shitty one.You were calling a bad move when you saw it, mclaren and others were calling a bad move (Green Day's milking of AI) when they saw it. Two things are still different. They are different circumstances. Green Day's 'bad move' wasn't really a bad move. It was the courteous thing to do, and the right thing to do if they didn't want to be assholes and they wanted to be gracious. Andres was just trying to prove he could be something he wasn't. But that's not what this thread is about.
zoki
they were on fuse so many times the past year since AI was released. making of BOBD, making of AI, making of holiday, bullet in a bible, 100% green day. however many times they were on the tonight show or the late show. they were over doing it. and it did get annoying. people i know got tired of AI and them. i have a friend in the air force and they literally started screaming and damaged the radio when it came on.Hmmh, I always thought, well for music channels anyway, they tend to play what is popular and requested frequently, and green day falls under both of those catagories, like it or not. I'm sure that they don't send Steven threat letters to play them on his show, or any other music show/countdown.P.S - the making of's are awsome. No one is forcing you to watch fuse, you did that of your own accord. Besides, if it wasn't them up there it'd just be some other band you'd be bitching about it. I stand by what I said, it would be rude to tell them, "No, I'm too good to come on your show," or something like that. I don't see what's wrong with them enjoying their sucess. I'm not even addressing the second half of it because it's off topic. It's all opinion, so of course I'm going to think I'm right and state it as fact. Deal with it. mclaren
Ok, ok - my mistake. So why don't you care about your hypothetical European fans ?it isn't a matter of not caring. i just personally hate all things to do with the british media, and most popular music that comes out of the uk. now, easily some of the best bands in the world today are british, but they're basically the polar opposites of who these shows award. why would i arrange to go all the way overseas for something i try to avoid like a plague? and don't say "because of the fans", because most bands do european tours. American idiot wouldn't have sold nearly as much without the vid's, no doubt, but hey, no one's forcing you to sit infront of your mtv, or your fuse, vh1, muchmusic or any other crappy music station there is.Sure, they didn't need to make videos. But then again, nobody else needs to make them either. Many artist this past year have had 4 or more vids. Quen, Kanye, Fiddy, Miss. Carey (did you see what I did there, I can't spell her first name), and my personal favourite, U2.And, I did the whole "dumb down" thing just cause, this whole this is so over analyzed. Here they are, the biggest band in the world, and on a show, that isn't so high on views. Green day, supporting the rock community, and who ever said they weren't humble.
