justcause
Godfathers???????? your kidding me right? You must be so young and ignorant...that is the only understandable excuse for you saying that....I would even bother telling you of bands who better deserve the "godfathers" of punk label above their heads becasue I know you will probably just try and find as much info about them as possible and then in a few months you will have all their cds and preaching your the biggest fan and from the beginning as well <-----huge amount of people do this.Love all the question marks - ok 'godfathers of punk' is a term that has been applied to Green Day , especially in the British press, especially in Kerrang which published that article. I should have made that clearer by putting it in inverted commas, my bad. As for the other bands - go for it. What are we talking here - California punk of the late 80s, or are we going back to The Ramones? Or is its Brit-punk back in its early origins, when Green Day would have been excluded merely by the fact that they can all play their instruments? I'm interested to know who you think are the originators, and how it came to life again in California particularly. Go on, educate me.
Lorelei
i just read that "kerrang, GD vs Blink" thing. they green day wer huge assholes about that whole thing, it kinda annoys me. I mean, a band that has said millions of times they loved green day and they just basically tell em they suck. Theyve just started to annoy me in general, doing everything they preached against only a few years ago. does anyone think theyll change, or kinda go back to how it was, or do you think theyve gone passed the point of no return? Its just like...theyre bigger than jesus now. I dont see how anyone could forget about this, my Grandma even knew who they were.1. You're talking about something that they did in 2002. 2. Why does it matter if your grandma knows who they are?
Gangsta-licous.
I don't think we should pay attention to what other people say.We all know that we love Green Day and they kick ass so that's all that matters.
marr
you guys say a lot of shit about your "favourite" band...like, you can't wait till they're out of the public eye? well excuse them. they didnt release the album just for their old fans. +more than half the people on this forum got into green day from American Idiot, so atleast thank them for opening those dusty doors to their older music.anyways...what i have to say is, buy your green day merch now. i know from experience that i couldnt find a green day shirt before american idiot and now i own 2 (yeah.imnotrichlikeyouguyshaha ) you guys say they'll flop, and with that attitude they just might.(shit i need to go to school to get smart )

King Of Some Island
The thing is ever since the early 90's rock stars can not act like rock stars and enjoy it. If you are a rock star nowadays you must be depressed all the time and constantly bitch about how much you missed the days when you were jamming with your buddies in the garage as if you never wanted to be a millionaire and how fame is such a burden. If you do live an in-your-face, outspoken, and wild life of excess, like Green Day and Kanye West do, then you are labeled as a sellout attention-whorewho doesnt care about music... bboricuamami7
Well, they are taking a couple of years off so hopefully people will get sick enough to want them more. I love them and hope they continue forever, even though I know they won't. Maybe it's time to get serious with something else in the industry like other musicians do like acting in a few movies or something. I'm a huge fan myself, but I'm already sick of the American Idiot album. They wore it out on t.v. and radioand not only that it's been a year and nothing new is popping up. Anyways, just a thought. waving_the_flag
The thing with Green Day is that they tend to like make a record, play shows, be all over the place and then disappear for a while. That's probably what's starting to happen now. For a while there was always something new to hear about them and now there's nothing except the fact that they win awards, which is a good thing because it brings us back to the music. False Punk
I'm glad AI happened, otherwise I'd still be wondering who the hell that band was that used to play Time of Your Life.I'm not gunna make a fool of my self and turn around and say they're sellouts and I hate AI beause it attracts teenys. I don't think that. I like to listen to AI still. I am kinda glad the AI era is ending, but that's because I look forward to hearing something fresh, as my playlist shuffles through all my ripped CDs, not beacuase I think it's over played. However, as much as I know I'd buy into it, making a movie wouyld probably take it to far.I also think that for as many teeny posers and top 50 fans they picked up, they've also picked up fans who have liked what they've heard, will/have bought all thier albums, dicovered their history and wait for their new album, listening to a genre of music they never knew existed... Like me.

mclaren
yes, it's the media's fault that green day go every award show. i'm sure green day just wants to go the show and strut down the red carpet without being noticed. can you imagine that these media guys would want to cover an award show? what assholes. I guess we're very different in that way. If they blew off the Grammy's last year or this year, I would have thought, "What assholes." The same with the VMAs.Also, editors decide what goes in magazines based on what will sell, not on who attended an awards show.

greencarrot
They have not push it too far .FYI this is the music bussines , they have to give everything they have to stay on the top and stay there .They need to sell albums , they need to be in everybody's mouth , that's the bussines . They have contracts and deals they have to keep up with . Not eveything looks as it seems .
Robin
yea i think they over did AI too much all the concerts they played (which is good for some places) but after awhile it gets to look like theyre arrogant even though they may not be. and i respect bands for being political but i think they are going over board with it all. i can see them going down hill from here. their next album will sell a lot but not as much as AI and it will probably be a ripoff of it as well. Guest Quietus
if i was nominated at every single inconsequential award show on the planet, i wouldn't parade myself and perform at each one, no.They did not perform at everyone. I wouldn't say they paraded either. They didn't do big interviews, they did short five minute things like most nominees did. They were courteous enough to answer some questions that they've been asked a million times. They sat through the show just like every other nominee and made an acceptance speech. They didn't do anything different than any other band really, accept that they got more attention because people like them, and the media is trying to play up the AI cd. I doubt they are like, "Gee I hope we can keep going to shows to strut our stuff."I mean, I think it would be pretty shitty if they won and they weren't there to accept it. It would be like, "well we're better than you and we don't care about accepting your damn award." If they did that, people would be complaining that they were assholes. They can't fucking win. People are such cynics and critics that it's disgusting.
