Shoot That Fucker Down
I think that Green Day has given Warner Brothers too much leeway to run their affairs. Warner Brothers, after realizing how big a smash the album was, made it their mission to squeeze every single cent out of American Idiot as possible. I think the best thing Green Day could do now to dispel this hate would be to release a more green day traditional album without the whole rock opera aspect, and just play some rock and roll. But I mean it's Green Day's name, their music, their careers. I'll support them whatever they do, but I've lost a lot of respect for Warner Brothers over this whole thing. Jaelle
I paid $45 for one ticket, $30 for the others, and one was free (it was a free show). Since their shows sell out in a matter of seconds, they could clearly be charging much more. Other bands that are as successful and long-lived are charging way more. That's what I was about to say. I paid €25 for one ticket (charges included), that is about $30, which is a really small amount, if you consider that some people paid something like €80 ($97) to see some other bands that performed here this year. ArmatageShanks39
You people are getting the wrong idea. theyre still my favorite band. I definatly dont hate em. They just milked this cd for all its worth, and tried to get attention. They ARE sellouts. But so are a lot of my favoite bands. Rancid are kinda sellouts, offspring are kinda sellouts, Van Halen are huge sellouts. I still like em though. and i just heard in an interview with tre that if they do the movie its gonna be an independant thing, so no hollywood bullshit. im really glad, now im not so afraid of it. I still dont think its a great idea, but im releived that if it happens its not gonna be some big ass hollywood production.
netty
I`m still waiting for my snog from mbk. but in the mean time... while you guys try and work out if the band sold out, and wonder how much they ake from merch and all that shit. ask youselves how many people they are keeping in employment in the mean time. music can mean two things. its music that you listen to, enjoy and can reflect your current mood. and it provides jobs for people. puts food on the tables of not just the band, but the record company employies, the people who make the discs... I could go on but I know full well there is no point. green day do what they do best. make damn good music.

Dannit
SELL OUTS........yes its true....Im sorry, DENIAL is not a river in Egypt ok. it's also taking jobs away from people who want it more, and putting more money it warners and green day's pockets than to people who need it more . . . like some guy that has this small band, he's just starting out playing in a small local punk club, and his band stickers are in a music shop . . . but one day the music shop can't sell them because green day stickers are filling up the wall that used to be filled with underground bands stickers . . . there are many other larger cases i could point out, but im tired
getoffmyass
Okay I don't want to open a can of worms, BUT, I really don't like Billie Joes' new look, I guess that may be stupid or whatever but I think my favorite singer/songwriter, 25th favorite person in the world, may be full of himself, I guess I'm putting way too much thought into his look though.............ah I feel bad
DarknessFury
Sell outs? What sell outs? I just think that the Warner Bros. issue is too much. Why stop people from downloading the video from the net? These people might not have a TV for f***'s sake! I'm not too worried about the clothes from Adeline's CLothings though. BJ might have had some free time on his hands and decided to draw clothes out.
Lotus Eater
release a more green day traditional album without the whole rock opera aspect, and just play some rock and roll. Why should they hold themselves back? I thought we agreed that the selling out part has nothing to do with the music, but their image and how they market themselves. I mean I'm sorry, I love the "traditional Green Day" stuff, but the thought of them just going back to what they've always done once they started to get a little crazy saddens me. I want to see them push themselves ever further musically, because they have the potential for so much more.
RAGEandLOVEx3
its just that there always playing there fucking music.. and im already fed up with american idiot. i mean so many radio stations play it over and over again. and i think the more people play there songs i think the more people get sick of green day. i think they should have less hits.. like they should have one after another. IHateYou
well, good question dres. i think it was a 50/50 coin toss whether or not to go through with the new fashion/makeup and monster rock tours. personally and i think most old school fans would agree that the ongoing appeal (one reason) comes from their modesty in their clothing, attitude, and how they handle themselves in the public eye. Ok, they were forced into doing greatest hits and b-sides cds, that was a shameful period, so with American Idiot i think they just deciding to take a dip and embrace the waters they've held in the palm of their hands since dookie. Maybe they weren't sure if this was gonna be their last album or last big album, so they rode that wave. Now, if they still dressed modestly and toured not so extensively and made the shows so theatrical, it's tough to say if they album would've made as much of an impact. ANYWAYS, wtf am i talking about. i dont know. The album is kickass, but after the fire died down, the overplay left a somewhat discomforting taste in my mouth. So they indulgded for once in their career. All i know is that if they still wore band t-shirts and goofed around during interviews and made their live show less of a production, i would have a much better feeling in my heart than right now. IHateYou
i could talk forever on this issue. i saw them live 6 times since the album came out and i've come to realize that they are only mere shells of their former selves. so many things i cant believe... how can they not be sick of playing these songs live? how can they possibly look so fucking into it every night? the tattoos are the only proof it's still them. and i REALLY don't like how, notably, in bullet in a bible when mike says he knew they were out of the shadow of dookie with AI. did he really think that for all this time? fucking idiot. i don't know about you guys, but i have been sitting here enjoying and approving and supporting every new song with every piece of my heart. if mike really feels that way, it makes it look like he doesnt give a SHIT about their entire fucking catalog until american idiot. they don't embrace eras. they released warning and are hesitant to show an folky side to the new kid fans? drop the image and just ROCK, green day! now, that's actually not completely true because I talked to Billie about the setlist not too long ago and he said he thinks its fine the way it is, but he did admit a desire to add more kerplunk and warning to the set. so some things he may be pressured into... It's not Green Day's fault that some small, unknown band remains just that. It's not like Green Day was huge right from the start. There will always be huge bands and ones that are just starting out with a small fanbase. And I don't see a shop that normally stocks more underground merch suddenly stocking up on mainstream merch from Green Day... But anyway, it's not Green Day's responsibility to suck so some other lesser band can become famous.
409InYouCoffeemaker
They went overboard on more than one thing. The touring was ok, it was ALL the singles off of AI...5? come on, 4 of those were HUGE. Thats almost half the CD. Now theyre killing it with this movie. Sure make the DVD and what not, but man...thats it. NO MORE!!!! Go in hiding for 2 years then come back with another album. Personally...I think when they come back they wont have anything good enough to match AI (by good enough I mean loved by so many people). I want them to bring out stuff like they had in the early 90's. That'll get all the older fans going. But not going to lie, they might flop this next album. If you saw the MTV Raw interview that was online a while ago, you'd see that you're completely mistaken. They make it clear that they still love all of their old songs. Mike was talking about how the public viewed them, not how he felt personally. I'm sure they've had the feeling for 10 years that everyone was saying "Well, Dookie was their masterpiece. They're never going to top that," because as dumb as that is, people WERE saying that. And the shows...while they are theatrical and almost identical, which is unfortunate...you have to appreciate what they do. They give you the best fucking show they can think of. It just happens to be the same one every night. And how can you complain about them being "into it" onstage? Would you rather they look bored, just because it would mirror your own feelings? You know...you guys claim to be sick of seeing them in interviews and stuff, but it really seems like you're not paying attention to anything the band is saying. Or maybe you're just not seeing the right ones. Anyway, recently I've been impressed by their attitude about the next album. They seem fully aware that it might not be as well received, and they're ok with that. They know that their career is "like a roller coaster," and they're confident that if they just stay true to what they want to do, eventually things will come around again. That's what they did with American Idiot. They didnt know if it was going to flop or not, but they did it anyway. How's that for fucking integrity? And the AI movie? You're talking about it like it's another music video, something to promote the band. Tre said in a radio interview that was recently posted that they've decided to do it independently, to "keep it good," and stear clear of Hollywood bullshit. Personally, if they have a good enough idea for it, I want them to fucking do it.
_Misery_
Well i think you're idiots if you lose respect for the band for anything. No matter what they do, as annoying as it may be, they are awesome musicians and if you can't respect that, you're a worthless fan of their music. Which is what matteers. Exactly. It's all about the music bitches. I have amazing respect for Green Day because, no matter what, they work their asses off and they are fucking good at what they do.
