Poo
Now that has substance! I enjoyed your argument and I give you respect for that. I agree that growth and change is healthy. And I guess older fans who got into them because they rejected the mainstream ideals of rock might now be disappointed with the path the band is taking in their public persona. The funny thing is that we will never know what they really think unless you know them personally...maybe this is a facade...mayeb its who they are now...all I know is that I miss the spontaneity and their "fuck everyone" attitude that made me fall in love with them in the first place... I hope that other posters can put as much effort in their replies as you have... Thank you! I respect you for being such an open-minded and admirable "arguer." 'Makes this seem more like a discussion rather than an argument. But I think you summed it up right there - we can all assume on how they act and think and on whether or not all of this has been one big show, but we'll never really know. Even in interviews they can lie to get the reactions that they want (like Tre's "my favorite album is the one that comes with Bullet in a Bible!" in an interview not too long ago). But whatever the truth is, the reality is that they have indeed changed, and nothing like this video is going to do anything about it.

You see it as them selling out, while all I see is a difference in character, but neither of our opinions really matter because I don't think Green Day would care. xXDissapearing.GirlXx
This is last I'm posting here because I'm sick of it. Green Day worked their asses off making American Idiot. They made a strong statement about something that needed to be said. They weren't even sure if people would buy the c.d. They were rewarded with everyone liking it and having success. Just because they have success doesn't mean they've sold out. They still don't care what other people think which has been their philosophy from the beging and they've held on strong to it. About all the products, Cinderblock and Warner have mostly everything to do with that. Sure it all runs by the guys, but they aren't gonna care what people think when it goes on the market, they made it for their fans. Not people who claim they've sold out. If you think that's what made them sell out don't buy the products. As for the Adeline clothing line, Billie Joe enjoys designing clothes. It's his hobby, and if you've got a problem with it go talk to him about instead of posting it here. They have "Grown Older" and are there fore wiser. They are more mature than teenagers, and you can't expect someone to act that way their whole life. Their new look has to do with them, and neither me nor you have the right to tell them what they're wearing is wrong. That's it for me.

I think you can and should attemp a goal like that,by doing it your own way. If you say,you want to become the best in your profesion can simply mean, that you think you GOT what it takes and not nesseserally that you are willing to go the "WHAT EVER IT TAKES" route. enjoiskaterguy
it's funny that you're all using this "grown up" justification now, after billie joe has said numerous times that there's really no such thing as growing up. then why are you still posting in this thread? he said that same thing when at 29 too. i wouldn't put that much stock in his stage banter. agreed...I bet he said that to look cool. If you say,you want to become the best in your profesion can simply mean, that you think you GOT what it takes and not nesseserally that you are willing to go the "WHAT EVER IT TAKES" route. whats sad is that they took the "whatever it takes" route to try and bring their stardom back up to the top from the Nimrod era.....at least then they had integrit and passion and fuckin rocked out at concerts....didn't say stupid shit, fake masterbate, and do repitious bullcrap...they once didn't give a shit....and now they do....they care how people percieve them. You know how I know this?...Well, I'll tel you.....just look at how they dress, talk nice, and do there hair. Its like they are trying to prove something to people through their image, and having their music a step behind that.

That is a perfect example...Being the biggest band in the world and not giving a shit about what people thought of you just doesn't work.....and them calling themselves a punk rock band still....its just sad how this "punk rock" genre has been so diluted. There is no new commercial, mainstream artist, or band that would ever be categorized or said to be a punk band...and the fact that people believe all these new bands are punk bands like Sum 41, Simple Plan, Taking Back Sunday, and shit like Good Charlette are sooo mistaken. The music they play and their misplaced category that they fall under by societies standards is what is happening with these bands....Its like if they mention their influences to be any punk band, the media grips on to statements like these and the next day you will see in a magizine cover saying some bull crap like..."HERE COMES THE NEW BAND GOOD CHARLETTE....a punk band that love the sex pistols". Im sick of all these misinformed teenagers who are brainwashed and have a twisted perception of the work "punk" and have added a new age tone, and meaning to it altogether. Well, they didn´t care what there old fans might think,if they could do the same step and they couldn´t know,if they would find any new ones.BJ said, that he knew AI would be either real big or tank - there is no mittle ground with this album. It was a gamble. For me,they didn´t go to the side where the people were - they got the people to come to there side. Go back to the time BJ started to write the record. At that time,if he really had cared to only make it big,he would have written some patriotic dreck and played the conservative punk part, that´s an old one. Now that time and opiniom has changed (and they played there part) it looks like they went for the masses - while the truth is,there weren´t any masses on that side when, they started to go in that direction. For the way they dress on stage - after they played Live8 in Berlin,a German newspaper worte, that they were dressed like the anarchits in Germany in the 1920´s -30´s and the reporter from "Rolling Stone" called there show pure"brechtarien" (Berthold Brecht) - that´s not trendy, that´s history. And for the suit they wear at award shows - they would like morons in anything else. And FUCK is still the word of choice, not much nice talk - mabe a sense of where you are at a certain moment. Linnea
Bollocks. They produce great music. Always have. More mainstream now and some people just say oh well they're sellouts. You people need to get a life. I read a quote regarding Jonny Rotten. So you want Bj,Mike and Tre to act like him? That is selling out. Being someone else. All this constant wineing people do using the word sell outs pisses me off. Why do you care who likes them? I love them. To me taht is all that is important but this constant need to slag off success is pathetic. You are the ones with the problem. So get real Well said
