What Green Day used to be

I mean, you can see in the previous CDs that their sound is changing, it's not like it happened in the course of one transition, though the last transition was a bigger leap than the others.

yeah, let's take a look at the progression of green day's sound. they basically had the same sound up until nimrod. with nimrod, pop-punk was losing it's steam in the mainstream, and we can see on the album that they threw in a few new things. then, with warning, it's a completely different sound. warning was a pretty unique sounding album compared to anything else in the mainstream at the time. back in 2000, we had the whole nu-metal craze. bands like limp bizkit, korn, staind, etc. were dominating the mainsteam. green day obviously wasn't going to sound like this. the "new" songs on ish also suggested that green day would continue in this new sounding direction. then, it's 2004, pop-punk is once ruling the mainstream. what does green day do? they forget this new, better sound that they were in the process of forging and just revert to the pop-punk that was big in the mainstream.

also, if you don't think bobd sounds like avril lavigne, take a look at what kind of fans jumped on the green day bandwagon after that song broke. that says more than any song analysis will.

Or maybe a bunch of other people are doing a good job of being like Billie Joe.

every shitty pop-punk band had a clothing line before billie joe. thanks for coming out though.

yes, partly so. if you make a statement like "we want to be the biggest band in the world", then that obviously will affect the music. we've seen it with american idiot. you can't deny that there's been a complete 180 degree turn from warning-era green day to american idiot-era green day. they've literally gone from "i wanna be the minority" to this.

waaaait wait wait wait.

i thought you were an old fan

do you not remember billie joe saying 'we want to be the biggest band in the world' in 2000?

hell i even believe he said it in the nimrod days.

american idiot is where we saw those words in action though. green day wasn't going to be the biggest band in the world sounding like they did on warning.

so, mclaren must mean that they never really did care about the music. which we all knows is absolute bullshit.

Hahaaa! I love the fact that if I see your name in a thread, I can be sure that you're in it refusing to accept that your opinion might not be the end all be all.

And before you say it, I'm not referring to the clothing line comment, as I'm sure that you'll have a band name to bring up to prove your point (though one would be weak. I'd expect at least 3 from you of all people, lol). All I'm saying is that you have a major problem with admitting even minor flaws in your logic.

they could have been, its all about being in the right time at the right place.

the fact that AI is such a great sounding record has no relevance in them changing.

billie joe didnt all of a sudden say 'we wanna be the biggest band in the world' when AI came out.

he said it back when they were practically nothing.

right time and right place is what i was saying with american idiot in my other post. look at the mainstream at the time that album was released.

It would move a heart of stone!!!!

Apparently not, mclaren being case and point.

spewing out random weak bush bashes.

Uh, not many bands were spewing out bush bashes as far as I know, and they aren't weak. They have good points. It's a very personal message, for some people, like me.

Well, since I don't listen to Avril, I can't compare the songs. But Green Day has always had a unique sound, and they still do. AI is like...pop mixed with something else I can't describe. It is definitely not all pop. And honestly, look where Warning got them. I can't blame them for producing AI and making the sound different.

and that right there indicates how much integrity you'd have as a musician.

You're impossible you know that? I am a musician, and I have integrity. I'm just not an idiot. If I can write from my heart but do it in a different way that might give my work more exposure, why not?

Bumping this for two reasons:

1. I think Immortality feels the same, and

2. I'm still waiting for some type of witty response from you, mclaren.

And I completely agree with Immortality. Why does making music that might be a bit more widely listened to such a bad thing? It's not like they've gone against everything they started out as. Also, for those of you who think that they're such sell outs...if you have no respect for them, then why in the hell would you frequent a Green Day fan forum?!

I'm special, I got a thread bumped! ^^ Yeah, I feel the same, but I have to admit, I am pretty stubborn too...but I can usually come around and apologize...point and case in the Whatsername thread.

Exactly. That's what rational people do, lol! Personally, I just think that mclaren is sad to see any argument end, and so refuses to let them.

True enough, but you don't know jack shit about me, so you shouldn't judge me.

wtf is that supposed to mean? And who made you the judge? If anything, all of these "Green Day are sell outs" threads just prove one thing: integrity is an opinion, not a fact.

When it comes down to it, this topic is all about your morals and how you percieve things, basically.

I think that's probably why this thread has been so opinionated and pointless. It's just an argument over people's beliefs.

Quite possibly the dumbest video I've ever seen.

The true essence of punk rock isn't more than a dream.

In fact the whole culture is knee deep in hypocrisy,

at least, that's what I think, if you were to ask me.

This thread isn't much better, hell I didn't even read it.

All I imagine it could contain is a lot of waving of dick.
