Popular Post JardyOfSuburbia
Well, it appears Vegas radio station X107.5 has banned Green Day from their airwaves. How will they ever survive? This seems like an incredibly lame stance by the station, but whatever. I mean, Vegas hasn't been great for them with iHeart and Vegas taking two of Oakland's pro franchises. Thoughts?
Popular Post Hermione
Hilarious . So much silly drama any time Billie says anything lately. Also extremely obvious he's not talking about regular people who live in Las Vegas.
stories and songs
How moronic lol. After he said that in his Letterbomb speech he was like “but anyway, I’ll take it down a bit” indicating he knew he was getting a bit too riled up in the moment lol. And he has a specific, valid beef with Vegas over losing multiple sports teams to them, so like…(also he’s correct, I hate going to Vegas for work lmao).
pacejunkie punk
Vegas isn’t even a real city, it’s a bunch of casinos built by mobsters and billionaires with a city that grew around it to feed the beast. It’s fitting that we finally get high speed rail in this country and it’s a line from LA to Vegas to bring more people in to spend their money. Capitalism will always win
The Grohl
is this real? Okay I'm sure Billie is super bummed about being banned on Vegas radio. It's Billie, Chicago and every other city happily welcomes you!

Mar
It's a shame that Brandon seems to have matured over the years, because this would be a great way to get that Killers v. GD feud brewing again (even if it broke my teenage heart) 😄

Hermione
^ He did, said "Also no offense to people in Vegas, it was in the heat of passion" Anyone got video of when he said it? Or know which song it was during?
Popular Post solongfromthestars
I cannot believe people were actually offended by that comment. The first time I saw Green Day in Glasgow, Billie went on a short but vehement rant about Scotland being better than England, then kept saying "fuck England" throughout the show... and we hadn't even stolen his sports teams. I don't think it even made it into the local rag because it was obvious he was just riling up the crowd. Like... that's what performers do. It's like the press jumped on whatever he said about moving to the UK on Hella Mega. He's always said stuff like that but people knew he was exaggerating. RIP common sense. 4
Cris.
Was anyone other than that radio station offended though? 😂 It just seems like a bit of fake indignation to me. Also, a bit off topic but anyone who understands sports teams wants to explain to me what's going on? This is general curiosity, really. I've seem people who are not Green Day fans but who are sports/baseball fans also complaining about this, so now I'm curious. I just don't understand how you move a team from one city to another, or why you'd even do that (as opposed to, let's say, create your own team and then start poaching the players from the other team if you have so much money). I know it's off topic, so if anyone feels in any capacity to explain this, please send me a message 😅 (I did try to google it but the first article I came across started throwing a bunch of names that hold zero meaning to me so I got lost - I really need a more dumbed down and in abstract terms version). 15 hours ago, The Grohl said: is this real? solongfromthestars
I thought it was fake drama to promote the radio station but there are actually lots of offended Vegas residents in Billie's Instagram comments. 1 2

They didn't even play a show in Vegas in this tour, or did they? Sports in the US are a business like any other. In most cities they’ve built new dedicated football and baseball stadiums for their teams using taxpayer money that have luxury boxes and modern features that bring in more money for the teams and the owners. Oakland however is not a wealthy city and still uses their decades old Coliseum for all sports. The owners complained they couldn’t compete with other teams (read: make billions for their organization and many more millions for the owners and have millions to pay their star players) because they can’t bring in enough revenue but the city won’t pay for new stadiums. So the owners just move the team to a wealthier city with modern facilities. It’s all about money.

Basically it comes down to greed. Oakland's stadium is a dump and has needed renovations forever, but the owner decided to move the franchise to Vegas instead because instead of making $2 billion he could probably make $6 billion a year. The worst part is despite the backlash from fans, baseball writers, media, etc, MLB owners allowed this move to happen and that's the sick part. This move didn't have to happen. It's all just a damn shame because the Oakland A's have such a storied history and played in such a unique stadium/atmosphere. Just sucks to see them move.
Popular Post Hermione
The other thing that sucks about it is Oakland also lost two other major sports teams to other cities in the last 5 years (including another one to Vegas). That has to suck.
Cris.
Thanks @pacejunkie punk and @JardyOfSuburbia, those were really clear explanations! And yes, I saw a person who is very passionate about baseball, but not from the bay area, and not a supporter of Oakland's teams, ranting about this in Instagram which is why I got curious about. Seems everyone who cares about baseball is pissed about this, which I understand now.

It’s not like he’s sitting down and writing statements about these things in a serious manner, he’s saying this stuff in the heat of the moment to rile up the crowd (and also doing so in a good natured, joking way most of the time). The constant outrage machine exhausts me. Lets use some common sense here lol.

Westerberg89
Oakland has become a dump because of the way the dems have ran it into the ground. It’s not safe anymore. When I visited as a teenager it felt different, it had a bit of grit but it felt right. It’s sad that these teams have left, but it’s not just down to the owners… it’s an ever changing landscape. I feel sorry for Billie, having a team you love and cherish, up and leave for anywhere sucks, let alone vegas which is a seriously crappy place.
