i "think" they took credit for Stop, Drop and Roll because they "gave" that song to the Hot tubs alongside Pedestrian and Broadway (and they got Fuck Time, Stray Heart, Stay The Night and Lazy Bones in return) while the network directly "stole" from them (but in revenge green day "stole" Govenator from them)

Bobby Schneck on guitar for the bsides disc.  Is that correct? I saw an unfamiliar guitarist on the BBC Top of the Pops, is that who it is?   

Anyway, these live performances are so juicy.  Billie is so emotional, making hand gestures and putting his entire being into every note.  

Jason White looks like Patrick Stump.

Just listened to the Tokyo tracks through my good headphones and man was Billie Joe’s guitar playing sloppy, but his vocals were fantastic!  Jason White was truly a vital part of their live shows at this point.  Props to him, he has the best job in the world!  Some of my favorite live tracks for sure, ever since I watched them on YouTube.  
 

I like how the bonus tracks have a cleaner, lighter guitar tone.  Different vibe that doesn’t completely fit in with the album, still killer tracks of course.  Even though I’ve heard them all before, it’s nice to revisit them in this package.  
 

This is definitely the best anniversary pack of the bunch for me.  Being my favorite album of all time, I’m considering getting the vinyl pack too.  And it comes with 2 dvds!  I’ve held off on watching the documentary because I’m going to watch it with my dad who got me into Green Day in the first place by playing this very album.  I was 7 years old and I still remember how I thought the song American Idiot was the greatest thing I’ve ever heard.

I received my vinyl box from the store. FedEx asked for an order confirmation and a PayPal invoice, but they delivered it finally. Got number 05791
Received my CD/blu-ray box theoretically on Friday, but I was only able to pick it up on Sunday and was only able to watch the doc just now.

Wow, so much video material I and we have never seen before and I'm glad they only used a little footage of BIAB. And wow, the Warfield footage sounds and looks amazing, too bad they didn't release any of it earlier. What a show! By the end of the doc I felt a little melancholic that it was already over. What a cool era to be a GD fan (I was there haha) and what a good time for the band, stressful for sure, but they changed a lot with this album and the tours.

The BBC footage is pretty great to finally have in good quality like that. They could have included "Basket Case" from the Jools Holland appearance, but I guess they didn't take it since Billie's mic didn't work properly and he had to run over to Mike to sing and they seem to have great quality footage of "American Idiot" at the Brits 2005 but didn't include the full song here.

Edit: Could it be that "We are the Champions" from the documentary was recorded at Milton Keynes? He screams "Englaaand" at some point.

What do we think about the 4K upgrades of the American Idiot music videos posted to YouTube? I dunno about y'all, but I'm watching Boulevard now and it still looks a little soft, unlike the Dookie music video remasters which had plenty of grain & lots of fine detail. I'll need to watch all of them before reaching a conclusion, but right now I think at least this one I'm watching (Boulevard) might be from a standard definition digital or tape master upsampled to 4K. We'll see!

American Idiot looks great and how it should (if a bit more saturated w/ clipped highlights)! In fact, the higher resolution reveals some masking mistakes in the warped-time segments, only noticeable if you slow it down or pause at the right time. Since these are also high-resolution, I'm wondering if these were 1) shot digitally, edited digitally, upscaled here 2) redone digitally for the remaster or 3) originally done optically? This second shot with a bit of green spill also tells me some of these shots were done later, maybe with a different method of bringing them into the plate.

YouTube compression sucks for analysis though, hopefully the technically inclined or connected of us would be able to provide us the master copies on streaming services like Apple Music, barring that a lossless video capture from them. I could do the latter with an Apple TV 4K and a capture card, but my capture device is limited to 1080p. I'll see if I can grab some screenshots from iTunes, though, for comparison!

Feel free to continue the discussion about this, though, and if the rest look as good as if not better than American Idiot, job well done! Still, it's curious to see that Boulevard doesn't shape up, maybe the final film element is gone? Who knows? I doubt we'll ever get clarity on how these were done, same with the Dookie music videos. My guess is these were probably done by an internal Warner team who also would've been behind the similarly great Rick Astley's Together Forever & a-Ha's Take On Me 4K remasters. I'm personally happy that the industry has NOT taken cues from Park Road Post's destructive digital restoration practices (and the praise that it had garnered from an undiscerning press and audience). We've finally learned our lessons from the late 2000s / early 2010s about DNR, for the good of everyone please don't set us back!

It's been an ongoing problem since the Nimrod box set. Fans look forward to release dates only to be disappointed. Yet nothing seems to be done to improve the situation. 

I agree with the idea of promoting GD through it's store. But, having read members frustrations in the past, I reluctantly decided to order via Amazon. The last 4 GD releases, plus Unt, have all arrived on specified date, and up to 20% cheaper. 

Hopefully, UPS can improve on Saturday for you. ♥️

So Amazon was kind of on time. At first, they said my box set wouldn't be delivered until Oct. 28th. Then it was updated to Oct. 27th. I got it the 26th. Still a better track record than Warner. Sadly, I haven't had time to listen to it, but so far I'm pretty impressed. I love the packaging and the booklet looks super cool. I actually forgot this came with a copy of Heart like a Hand Grenade, so now I guess I have two copies. I can't wait to dig into this later in the week.

As much as I would like to support the band via their webstore, I limit myself. I know Amazon isn't great, but at the end of the day I had to consider my budget. So similar to your reasons, I usually get GD releases from them. They don't charge me right away, I cancel or change payment if I need to, 9/10 it shows up on release day, and it's usually cheaper by the time of release. The CD box set was about $10 cheaper for me and that really counts.

From a fan's perspective, it's another must-buy. My copy finally arrived today, so I'm still taking it all in.

Fascinating anecdotes and perspectives from the booklet again. It hits different having lived through everything being described and seeing the original reaction unfold the way it did. Exposing my age here, but American Idiot was my introduction to Green Day, and it was only later that I explored their back catalog and understood the context for expectations that the public had for them at this time.

Also some interesting nuggets about Cigarettes and Valentines; the tape theft (whether true or false) was inconsequential, since their minds were made up well before that. Give Me Novacaine was originally written for the album, and an unspecified segment of Jesus of Suburbia was also recycled from Cigarettes and Valentines... I'm guessing the fast section of "I Don't Care." A pivotal demo that we likely won't ever hear is Billie's home demo of Wake Me Up When September Ends. Being one of the final tracks added to the album, it gets a very thorough writeup. Probably also one of the most important songs for Billie's evolution as a songwriter.

I'm glad Billie and I are on the same page with Favorite Son being good enough for the main album, but I begrudgingly accept it may not have fit the narrative well enough. Oh well, it's on a wide release now and people can stream this gem freely.

I've always got my nitpicks, and this one's no exception. "Lights Out" and "When It's Time" were previously finished outtakes from the album that still only exist as obscure additions to other releases (B-side to a single, and bonus track to the Broadway album). The rest of the B-sides album seems like it was made for me; I previously tracked down CD sources for every track that didn't make it on the main album, and here it all is in one place.

Now Dookie 30 gave us two live albums and American Idiot 20 dropped us back down to one, but it's the best choice in my opinion, and arguably the most historic. But dropping the encore set? That's a no-no. Like I said before, there was a lot of redundancy with the setlist of the era dominated by American Idiot (duh), but including those THREE classics would have helped and actually given us the complete show. Was it really a space issue?

Anyways, the demos album is what we've come to expect, but I mean that in the best way possible. 10/10, wouldn't change a thing. Some people are mad that they don't sound different enough. Like what are they supposed to do? Go back and remake them more different?

Homecoming demo is probably the most interesting song on the album. 

Personally, I've long since thought that at some point during the C&V sessions the band were listening to the works of The Who and started experimenting with different movements within one song. The similarities to A Quick One Whilst He's Away are pretty evident here.

I don't think the fact that they covered the song during the 21CB era is a coincidence.

The documentary is 110 minutes long. In the main it features new interviews with the band members and archival footage of their live performances, which are absolutely awesome. I just keep playing the doc again and again just to live through the live show. Billie Joe at his showman best, controlling the crowd like a conductor. Magic.

There's the usual many mad moments that you always expect with GD. I don't want to give it away but, watch out for poor Jason White getting caught out napping. Ha, ha. The fights, Billie Joe's posterior and many many more.

This is yet another epic box set from GD, for me the doc is the climax.

@Keeping00 hopefully you will be able to see it someway soon. This is essential viewing.

I've read the booklet included with the box set today, and Favorite Son is "Produced by Green Day, Engineered by Chris Dugan and Reto Peter, and mixed by TIm James" -- just like Too Much Too Soon and Shoplifter.

In other words: what's been stated earlier, that Rob Cavallo and CLA would've been involved, doesn't seem to be the case.
