I was at this one. Part of my first Oakland pilgrimage. Only time I ever saw GD from the seats (never again; just not the same atmosphere or picture opportunity). I remember this was the first show Billie didn't play Ordinary World at (had the capo on the 7th, then tossed it off), which saddened me since I love that song. At least I got to see it at the Aragon. 5

Popular Post solongfromthestars
7 years ago yesterday (11 August 2017), Green Day played in Kansas City, MO on the RevRad Tour. More photos: Spoiler Billie also did an Instagram (or Facebook, I don't remember) live that day. 8 years ago (11 August 2016), Bang Bang was released. It was played for the first time on Virgin Radio UK and I was interviewed on the show That was such an exciting day. 13 years ago (11 August 2011), Green Day played the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa, CA. More photos: Spoiler “We went and played 20 songs that no one had ever heard - in a row. And with no plan of a record even coming out. That was terrifying. It reminded me of the times we played in front of crowds that had never heard of us before - nothing was familiar. There was nothing being marketed. It was really exciting and it made me want to throw up with fear at the same time. We were treating ourselves like a new band.” — Billie Joe Armstrong 14 years ago (11 August 2010), Green Day played in Bristow, VA on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. 15 years ago (11 August 2009), Green Day played in St. Louis, MO on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. Popular Post solongfromthestars
On this day 7 years ago (16 August 2017), Green Day played in Noblesville (Indianapolis), IN on the Revolution Radio Tour. If you think I already posted this on the 14th, you would be correct. They actually played in Maryland Heights (St. Louis) on the 14th. I'll add the correct photos and info to that post. My brain is fried. More photos: Spoiler 12 years ago (16 August 2012), Green Day played SHIBUYA-AX in Tokyo, Japan. That was a great setlist with some rarely heard trilogy songs – Nuclear Family, Carpe Diem, Angel Blue (!!!!!!), Kill the DJ, Troublemaker and Lady Cobra. More photos: Spoiler If only other people had ears as superior as mine, the trilogy might have been popular enough to get an anniversary tour one day. Well, in all seriousness I'm going deaf, so I'm not sure what that actually says about anything I like. The Oh Love video was also released 12 years ago today. More stills, since most people on GDC don't want to subject themselves to the video again: Spoiler 14 years ago (16 August 2010), Green Day played in Mansfield, MA on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. I could've sworn I saved everything in the Picture Vault from the 21st Century Breakdown era, but apparently not. Have a video of them playing Scattered instead. 15 years ago, Green Day played in Salt Lake City, UT on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. Billie brought his mum onstage during Before the Lobotomy at this show. I'm sure I've seen a photo at some point, but I haven't got it and when I tried to Google it, all I got was a fanfic called "Billie Joe is my stepfather and I hate it." Then I went digging in my "Live Random" folder only to find photos of Billie's arse. Edit: Found a video! More photos: Spoiler 23 years ago (16 August 2001), Green Day played Rock Oz'Arènes in Avenches, Switzerland. 26 years ago (16 August 1998), Green Day played Zillo Festival in Hildesheim, Germany. More photos: Spoiler 32 years ago (16 August 1992), Green Day played Saratoga Lanes in San Jose, CA. 33 years ago (16 August 1991), Green Day played the Antenna Club in Memphis, TN. Someone messaged the GDA Instagram saying this was where the band met Jason White. I actually didn't know that so I've no idea if it's true. 3

Montclare
I was at the Philly show in 2021. Few pics below. I was further back since I had met up with a friend who didn't want to be too deep in the pit (Covid days), so I just made my way around once GD started. This is what led to my trip to the UK in 2022 since I needed to get back up close!

More photos: Spoiler 11 years ago (21 August 2013), Green Day played Brixton Academy in London, England on the 99 Revolutions Tour. I took these shitty phone pics: Spoiler And I did these very shaky ¡Uno! nails to match my hair in the queue. Nail art has never been one of my talents. Billie had ripped up his shirt before the show and changed into the black and red stripy one before the encore. I remember him singing Let Yourself Go like his life depended on it. Brutal Love was the highlight. I admittedly don't remember much else because I was having an awful day (personal stuff, nothing to do with the show), but I do remember crying during that beautiful performance of Brutal Love, partly because it moved me so much and partly because I knew it would probably be a long time until I saw Green Day again. More (decent) photos: Spoiler 14 years ago (21 August 2010), Green Day played in Montreal, Canada on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. Billie forgot the lyrics to Platypus, but they played it! They also played F.O.D. which was a big deal at the time. According to setlist.fm, they soundchecked Church on Sunday. More photos: Spoiler 15 years ago (21 August 2009), Green Day played in Las Vegas, NV on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. More photos: Spoiler 19 years ago (21 August 2005), Green Day played in San Antonio, TX on the American Idiot Tour. 23 years ago (21 August 2001), Green Day played in Berlin, Germany on the Warning Tour. Today I learned that they often played Platypus on that tour. 26 years ago (21 August 1998), Green Day played (setlist incomplete) Bizarre Festival in Cologne, Germany on the Nimrod Tour. More photos: Spoiler 30 years ago (21 August 1994), Green Day played a second night at Lollapalooza in Dallas, TX on the Dookie Tour. 33 years ago (21 August 1991), Green Day played in a bedroom at 202 Samford Avenue in Auburn, AL. About 30 people attended the 40-minute show, but after it ended, more people arrived and were disappointed to hear it was already over. The band's money and clothes were stolen from their van at the show prior, so everyone pitched in to help. They stayed in Auburn for another day. Ken Sanderson of Prank Records, who booked the show, believes they completed some songs from Kerplunk while Billie Joe played his acoustic guitar on the porch. 3

solongfromthestars
On this day 3 years ago (23 August 2021), Green Day played in Minneapolis, MN on the Hella Mega Tour. More photos: Spoiler 11 years ago (23 August 2013), Green Day played Reading Festival in England on the 99 Revolutions Tour. The whole show is on YouTube. More photos: Spoiler 12 years ago (23 August 2012), Green Day played the Shepherd's Bush Empire in London, England. I couldn’t find my original recap of the show, but I found an “improved” version from later. I obviously thought it was less embarrassing than the old one. Not so sure about that now, but whatever. Spoiler My 99 Revolutions Tour began on August 23rd, 2012, in a sweaty club in London. The Shepherd’s Bush Empire only held 2000 people. As my mum and I boarded a National Express at 3am, it still hadn’t sunk in that I’d actually managed to get tickets; let alone that later, we would see a small show in England. At Victoria Coach Station we met up with Liam from Coventry, who we knew from the Green Day Community forum, joining a line that snaked around the venue at midday. Later, Green Day piled out from black cars. Tré Cool waved as they were ushered inside. The three of us made front row, right at the end, but the venue was so small, it was the closest I’d ever been. This was one of the most surreal moments of my life. Then suddenly, Tré Cool was onstage, announcing that Billie Joe had laryngitis, but at least we had him. He began playing All By Myself, his solo track from Dookie. Of course, Billie Joe did not have laryngitis. He joined Tré on the drums, hitting them with childlike glee. Then they swapped places. Mike Dirnt and Jason White joined them, and they burst into Welcome to Paradise. As Burnout followed I was drenched in my own and others’ sweat, my arms clenched tightly over the barrier, barely able to breathe by Know Your Enemy, when Billie Joe ran over to our side for the first time. His face lit up with recognition as he looked down at me and nodded. It felt like time had stopped as I smiled back. Then they tore through a set of new songs from the upcoming ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tre! that I was thrilled to hear for the first time: Nuclear Family, Stay the Night, Stop When the Red Lights Flash, Lady Cobra and Oh Love. With a laugh in Stay the Night, Billie Joe noted "it’s so nice to see people singing along before the album even comes out." The remainder of the set comprised of usuals and oldies I screamed my heart out to, before they concluded with the new, soaring chorus of 99 Revolutions. I was teary-eyed as we wandered the cold streets of London, trying to find our way back to Victoria Bus Station. I have a very clear recollection of Liam trying to sleep under the seat at a bus stop while a man tried to convince me to pay for his National Express home. Another man also rushed up to me, promising everything he owned was mine if he could just borrow my phone. That is our capital city. My most vivid memories are still of All By Myself and "it's so nice to see people singing along before the album comes out." Some gifs of All By Myself: Spoiler And some more photos: Spoiler 14 years ago (23 August 2010), Green Day played in Clarkston, MI on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. Holiday included a bit of Peacemaker. I wish they'd play that live. More photos: Spoiler 19 years ago (23 August 2005), Green Day played in Atlanta, GA on the American Idiot Tour. More photos: Spoiler 26 years ago (23 August 1998), Green Day played the V98 Festival in Leeds, England on the Nimrod Tour. And 33 years ago (23 August 1991), Green Day played in Pensacola, Florida. There are some quotes from attendees on the GDA page for the show but it won't load right now. 1

Rumpelstiltskin2000
So here's the requested Leeds 2013 story. I still can't believe this was eleven years ago! So it was the last show of the tour and we found ourselves thinking “Green Day are in England, why aren’t we there?” But we could only afford for one of us to go. @solongfromthestars said I should go and bought my National Express ticket. It was already about 3PM when I left and the trains weren’t running! I had to get the rail replacement “Magic Bus” and then the National Express to Leeds was late. I was really panicking. When I got to Leeds one of the guys at the bus station said there wasn’t going to be a bus to the festival until long after Green Day started. I thought I was completely fucked and the guy obviously saw my face! Everyone in the bus station was invested in me getting there when this old double decker bus came trundling in. If you’re British you might know what I mean when I say it was like a scene out of On the Buses. The original guy shouted “QUICK! RUN!” And I was like “FUCK!” The driver had to stop somewhere for me to buy the ticket and then get back on. Once I got off the bus at the festival it was just mud. Everywhere I looked, mud. Everywhere I walked, mud. The guy who let me in said “don’t you know Green Day have cancelled?” My face probably said it all and he said “oh no just joking” and put my wristband on. I must have had to walk almost a mile to the stage. The mud just got worse and worse the further you went! It was sucking my shoes off and I kept having to fish them out. Green Day had just started 99 Revolutions as I got to the main stage. I didn’t see the bunny or anything. I went all the way down Mike’s side waving my arm in the air and singing “99 revolutions tonight!” I stopped second row near the screen. It rained all night and of course because I’d rushed off I didn’t have any supplies. Everyone else had umbrellas, ponchos, wellies, and I was just there in my Green Day t-shirt, skirt and slip on shoes! I didn’t regret anything at all of course. The show was incredible. It was insane to hear Dookie again. When they started playing A Quick One I couldn’t believe my ears. I knew how lucky I was. And Walk Away! I was just rocking out the whole time getting even more covered in mud. I tried to go to one of the merch booths but the mud just made it impossible. I put my foot in the puddle in front of it and my shoe just got sucked straight in. I bet they couldn’t sell anything! Everyone was chanting “we all paid £200 to walk through gravy” all the way from the stage to the bus stop. I must have been on one of the last buses out and some of them couldn’t get out of the mud. I met another GDCer in the bus station who’d had to get a taxi back. Another fan I knew from a previous tour had some brand new purple trainers. I’d said to her on Twitter “have a nice time” so when she saw me she said “WHAT the fuck are YOU doing here?” Someone else had Dookie Converse on… The bus home was quite empty but the toilet door was opening and closing all the way and there was a woman in there who'd been at the festival squealing. I had to go and sit in the 24 hour McDonald’s when I got back to Nottingham until the first train at 8AM. When I got home @solongfromthestars took a photo of me with the mud all the way up to my torso! Sadly we couldn’t find the picture. I still have the clothes somewhere. It was a good job I wore my old shoes because they were completely written off after that! That was one of the wildest things I’ve done even for Green Day. I think I actually got a job at the hospital just because I told them about it. A year later I probably couldn’t have done it because my arthritis had got so much worse. This is what’s happening there this year! 1 1

I’d said to her on Twitter “have a nice time” so when she saw me she said “WHAT the fuck are YOU doing here?” Someone else had Dookie Converse on… The bus home was quite empty but the toilet door was opening and closing all the way and there was a woman in there squealing. I think this is my favourite Green Day fan story of all time. I wasn’t even sad that I wasn’t there because I was so excited that you were… and you were surviving the mud. Just chilling in the shoe-sucking mud at 54 years old! I remember you saying it was a good job I hadn't gone because I'd have been wearing my Uno Converse 1

Hermione
Thanks again for doing these @solongfromthestars (+ @Rumpelstiltskin2000)! They're beautifully done and it's really cool to look back Shepherds Bush 2012 and Brixton 2013 were two amazing shows! So lucky to grab tickets for them and they were both really intense. All of Dookie at Brixton and it wasn't even the anniversary! And Brutal Love (and Billie's torn up shirt) . Shepherds Bush holy shit, I've never been that hot and sweat like that in my life, just drenched from head to toe lol. We started near the front but half way through my sister passed out. By the time I had realised and managed to get through the crowd to her she already felt better and was ready to rejoin the crowd and dance again , just in a more chill area and they played KFAD right after that which was perfect as we both love it (also Billie getting booed for singing Hey Jude and having no clue why lmao - it was because Paul McCartney's recent performance of it at the Olympics had been criticised/made fun of in the press). I loved the "wall of death" and it was kind of perfect that it ended on a fast song with 99 Revolutions and no Good Riddance cuz it was just such a high energy show. Nice view of wall of death 2
solongfromthestars
On this day 3 years ago (25 August 2021), Green Day played in Denver, CO on the Hella Mega Tour. More photos: Spoiler 12 years ago (25 August 2012), Green Day played a surprise set at Reading Festival in England. More photos: Spoiler I don't remember what day it was, but I think it was some time around then when Billie misbehaved and played songs he wasn't supposed to play on Zane Lowe's show. Edit: It was 22 August, but I can't be bothered to move it so whatever. 15 years ago (25 August 2009), Green Day played in Inglewood, CA on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. More photos: Spoiler This was lovingly (or not so lovingly, depending on who you asked) known as the "penguin hair." 23 years ago (25 August 2001), Green Day played Leeds Festival in England on the Warning Tour. 29 years ago (25 August 1995), Green Day played Reading Festival in England on the Insomniac Tour. More photos: Spoiler 30 years ago (25 August 1994), Green Day played Lollapalooza in San Diego, CA. 5 hours ago, Hermione said: Thanks again for doing these @solongfromthestars (+ @Rumpelstiltskin2000)! Nice view of wall of death I'm glad you're enjoying it! It was so fucking hot in there. Also one of the crazier crowds I've been in. That is badass that your sister just got back up and danced again! And it's incredible to see the wall of death from that angle. 3
Montclare
I'm a day late, but I was at the 2017 Wrigley show. Saw this post while at the Milwaukee show. Apparently, I go to a lot of GD shows on Aug 24!
