Anyone have a brand they recommend that I can get in K-cups at the supermarket?  I used to buy Tim Hortons so I’m not a connoisseur

Kirkland from Costco.
Tim Hortons is so disgusting can't stand this ''restaurant''

Think I’ll just try to buy up the last of the Oakland coffee at my local grocer first.

Not sure where you’re from, but Canadian Tim hortons taste way better than the American ones. Closest to me (Indianapolis area) is about an hour and a half fwiw

Yeah I wasn’t gonna argue but I actually like Timmy’s. Husband likes Dunkin’ decaf though so I can easily go back to that when he runs out of the Oakland Coffee we still have.

I was pleased to hear that the K-cups Punk Bunny uses now are new easy to recycle kind (the lid peels off easily). Sounds like Keurig is changing over to these for all of their brands but starting with Punk Bunny.  I may try their Soundcheck at some point but I just don’t drink coffee that often and it’s not worth the shipping to order just for me.

Oakland Coffee sounded so much better than Punk Bunny Coffee. Even Pink Bunny Coffee would've sounded better. I guess they couldn't justify using their coffee company as a Green Day merch store without basically rebranding as "Green Day Coffee" though :P

I’m wondering if the company was struggling financially being so local. Suppliers of compostable packaging had to be expensive, plus the cost of using a third party roaster and they had extremely limited distribution and brand awareness. Unless you were a Green Day fan and knew it was their company or had some connection to Oakland there was no draw. They weren’t growing. Coffee is a competitive space and people are brand loyal.

At first they even modestly kept the Green Day connection to Oakland Coffee very low key on the packaging and marketing but I think eventually they realized they had to lean in to that and use it if they wanted to sell it.  But their customer base was still pretty finite.

Now with this company they’ve gone all in on what’s needed to build a brand. Partnership with Keurig for packaging, sales and distribution, venture capital and investors, merging with a roasting company, a national brand identity, Green Day front and center on the packaging, eye catching and colorful, something I might actually see on store shelves outside of California.  I hope it does well for them it’s not an easy business but at least this time they’re taking it much more seriously and trying to actually grow a company.

It's just that I'm tired of Timmy. We have a Tim's every 5 miles in Québec. Their coffee taste like water, their foods are atrocious. Can't stand them anymore.

Agreed. Oakland Coffee was generic enough for anyone to try it. My sister bought it without even knowing it was connected to Green Day.  What random 60 year old guy is going to try something called Punk Bunny coffee?

I hate to tell you this but OG Gen X punks are in the late 50’s now and will be turning 60 next year. We still aspire to be edgy and this brand is an aspirational concept for people who want to feel like they’re living the rock and roll lifestyle whatever that means. “Drink the coffee the band drinks on the road” is aspirational. Younger people can’t afford this coffee if anything it’s targeting an older demographic Millennial and Gen X

Compare that to Oakland Coffee which wasn’t aspirational. Do people aspire to live in Oakland? Is Oakland known for its coffee? No and no. It’s like selling Cleveland coffee or Detroit coffee. Local appeal only.

Really? That's good, a lot of us thought it would be a downgrade from Oakland Coffee because they teamed with Keurig, but I am glad it is good! I'll have to buy some. Any one else have any thoughts on the coffee?

I only tried the old Oakland Coffee once and wasn't much of a fan (but I was ill later that day so maybe it just put me off )

Oh no, lol! Maybe you should give it a second chance. I am not much of a coffee person, so I may not get any. If you get any of the new and improved coffees let me know how they taste!

I also thought it would be a downgrade but I am definitely impressed. Tastes almost identical to Oakland but even smoother, will definitely be keeping the subscription 👍
