I believe mine was either Good Riddance (Time of your Life) or a part of Wake Me Up When September Ends. I only had an acoustic at the time.
devilskind92
Mine was either Holiday or Basket Case, can't remember 'cause it's been almost 20 years. Then Jesus of Suburbia, 'cause I remember being very excited to play it in the studio with my friends.
Little Boy Named Booze
Ha Ha You're Dead. Everything is easy to play, even the solo. Then Time of your life. Easiest song ever.
Karl Karlson
I borrowed an electric guitar yeeaars ago and the first thing I played was American Idiot (the song) and Holiday. When I got my first bass guitar in 2009 I for sure played something off of American Idiot or 21st CB. One of the first songs I learnt on bass was Holiday. When I got myself an acoustic guitar in 2020 one of the first songs i learnt for that was Christie Road and Pulling Teeth and Coming Clean off Dookie. Also BOBD off American Idiot. I never found the motivation to look into playing Good Riddance on the acoustic guitar, I only play it on bass to fool around a little haha
peachesandzebras
It was When I Come Around! First song I learned when I picked up guitar for the first time.

Thinking back now, good riddance might’ve actually been first, but East Jesus Nowhere was definitely the first one I learned on electric. I think I was inspired by their VMAs performance.
The Grohl
Wow I haven't thought about this in a while, especially since I don't keep up with guitar. But my first Green Day song was either Good Riddance or JoS.

Montclare
Definitely Good Riddance. Haven't picked up a guitar in over a year now, so I'm missing the necessary calluses! 2

Miko
Wake Me Up When September Ends. My father died in December 2011 and I decided to pick up guitar and learn the only song I could relate to back then. I had never touched guitar before, so it took me 2 months to learn it, but I eventually managed to do it. Afterwards I thought how hard American Idiot would be to learn.. took me whole whopping 5 minutes and rest is history. Nowadays I mainly play Trilogy stuff and of course my favorite from them, She.

Cool, man! Sorry for your loss, though. My first bass song was Longview, but I could never manage to learn When I Come Around on bass. Props to anyone who has learned that, but that bassline is HARD haha. The 99th revolution
My first acoustic song was WMUWSE. My first electric was American Idiot (still learning but I'm a lazy bones who doesn't stop when the red lights flash) but I also tried learning 21 Guns a while back. I'll try playing Desensitized, at least the opening riff someday. Another fatal wreck... on the info highway!

Flashback
Blood, Sex and Booze. I learned it together with my cousin and we played it in front of our parents. They were quite surprised when they googled the lyrics (I think we were 12 or 13 years old at that time 😅)

Saviour
I think it was Brain Stew also. Can’t really remember but it makes sense. You don’t get much easier than that.

Spike
American Idiot. I'd played bass for a couple of years, then the day after I first saw them live in 2005 I immediately started learning guitar.
