disappearing_boy_39
I've been streaming this album since it came out but have yet to purchase it. There are so many versions. I wish you could get the gatefold sleeve with a multi-color vinyl. And whatever happened to those rectangular CD books they had for all of their albums, starting with American Idiot through Revolution Radio — remember those? They were awesome, and I think Saviors could have had the lyrics book (seen at the listening parties) as the booklet. Missed opportunity! Also, I wish they made more of the Zoetrope versions. Honestly, from what I've seen, the album liner notes for this release are bland. What are your thoughts? What's your favorite version?
Popular Post Sanity Loan
For how much time folks had to produce packaging for this album I am very underwhelmed. Cover is weird, back cover is plain, the booklet is plain, the CD being a piece of folded cardboard, etc. The whole physical product is uninspiring. I understand physical sales aren't like what they used to be but some amount of effort would have been appreciated to match the quality of the music.
Popular Post AnonymWarnerGermany
I wish they used the artworks they used for the lyric book for the booklet.

And Green Day is a band that still believes in physical media and strives to make complete albums. The marketing campaign for this album is arguably the largest since American Idiot, so I was expecting a pretty nice package. This may be the blandest yet. Really weird... Do y'all remember the CD books that I referenced? That's what I have for all of their albums between 2004 and 2016 and they're great. That lyrics zine would have made for an awesome book. I mean, we can still download it, but over the years, it will be lost to time meaning newer fans won't know about it. Here's hoping for a deluxe version one day!
Gwen Stacy
I can’t speak to the CD quality since I have yet to get one, but I agree the packaging on the vinyl is a little weird. The exclusive sleeve for the vinyl that was a perk for pre-ordering at the listening party doesn’t fit the gatefold. Which is fine for me since I ordered the Black Ice pressing as well so it should fit that, but still, lack of attention to detail there. Also agree about the lyric booklet, it’s much superior to the lyrics printed on the back of the poster that came with the vinyl. Glad that you can print it from that website they set up, but I really think it should’ve been included with all the vinyl. Oh well.

They're so cool because it's not just lyrics, but artwork that's not included in the regular booklet. I thought the RevRad packaging was bad but this worse. RevRad at least had some pics and artwork in the booklet. Saviors has nothing. Plus, Saviors is slightly taller than their other cds....so now it doesn't fit on my media shelf (just had to vent there for a second). I really wish more thought would be put into the album packaging these days. I feel like if they spent a little more time making the CD/vinyl look great more people would pick up physical copies. And wtf is up with the gatefold only available for the "deluxe" version of the vinyl? That should just be standard for all copies.
JDA
I'm also interseted to know if there are mulitple versions of the posters that were included with the gatefold edition. I've seen lots of posts of the poster of the guys on the lawnchairs, but the one I got is a group shot of them standing and looks to be in 3D
Popular Post The Grohl
Honestly I'm not a fan of this poster. I don't mind the 3D effect, but I hate the scratches. Looks like someone who hates me took a key or a needle to my poster. 5
stories and songs
I got the black ice vinyl and it came with a poster of them from the lawn chair photoshoot, with the lyrics on the other side. I didn’t realize it was a single-sleeve and not a gatefold until I opened it, which is kind of a bummer. I’m sure it’s partially cost and partially down to being more environmentally friendly, but I’d just love more artwork included. They did some great photo shoots in this era. It feels so minimal compared to my other records. Totally agree on the lyrics, too. Would’ve been so awesome to have the zine artwork included instead of plain black and white. It’s such a boring design.
BUBBYBUB
Ok so who on here has spent 2+ years working on their 14th album...?
disappearing_boy_39
I hate when records come with posters. I never hang them since I wanna keep the packaging (with the lyrics) intact. And, the creases wouldn't look great anyway. If I want a poster, I'll buy. a poster, haha. So, if I understand correctly: CD: Gatefold Digipak (lawn chair photo) with a booklet and CD Vinyl: Non-gatefold (multiple vinyl colors & lawn chair poster) Non-gatefold w/ slipcase (multiple vinyl colors & lawn chair poster) Deluxe gatefold (black vinyl, lawn chair photo in the gatefold & weird 3D poster) Zoetrope (just the vinyl) Cassette: Paper folded insert that has the album cover & all the lyrics. Correct me if I'm wrong! Edited January 25 by disappearing_boy_39 Updated the cassette details.

You and I are the same I'm so torn when albums come with posters because a part of me wants to hang them up and the other thinks no I have to keep all the packaging together!!! Same thing with stickers. I still haven't used the Trilogy sticker I got with the box set, and I probably never will
HAPPY ZOMBIE UNICORN
I’m happy with the gatefold vinyl packaging. Waiting for my zoetrope variant and very happy with these two. Compared to any of the previous vinyl releases (excluding the amazing 21CB vinyl edition) this is way way better. Having a 180g vinyl with gatefold is already my biggest wish getting done.

stories and songs
@BUBBYBUB I mean, I don’t think any of us believe Billie and Mike went out and chose the cardboard or anything. 😂 There are just some small changes that would’ve made the packaging feel better quality, that’s all. In the grand scheme of things it’s not a big deal and it’s not stuff that the band themselves are overly involved with other than probably seeing mock-ups and saying yes or no.

Popular Post The Grohl
I don't really see what the length of time making an album has to do with it. All we're saying is we miss the days when packaging for physical media had more thought put into it. I think complaints are valid. It's not like anyone is saying screw Green Day!! They gave me a digipak for Saviors! This album sucks!! With how cool the lyric book looked we just thought there would be cool album art too. And it's a shame that it's not the case. As someone who still buys physical media I do care about the packaging. Does that mean if a CD comes in a digipak I won't buy it? No, it'll just make me wish for a sturdy jewel case.

Popular Post stories and songs
I will say, I ordered the CD + t-shirt bundle and it came in this adorable box that looks like the album, front and back. The millennial I am, I cannot resist a good box. 4 1

Im sorry for your disappointment I understand. I also like physical media but times are changing. I also have noticed that more cds are being made with paper sleeves. It makes sense, there is less plastic. 2 minutes ago, stories and songs said: I will say, I ordered the CD + t-shirt bundle and it came in this adorable box that looks like the album, front and back. GDFan2019
One thing I don't get is, since they went with the Digipak for RevRad, why did they go back to jewel case for FOAM?
