That Dude
I just played my Saviors record for the first time tonight. I have the hot pink and black one and it sounds really good. I started it on Suzie Chapstick and then flipped it over and listened to side A. Because who needs a Corvette Summer or a Coma City? Haha. No, I like those. I just didn't wanna hear them tonight. The order I listened had a good flow.
That Dude
Hopefully Billie's feeling about the Smashing Pumpkins have changed since the Insomniac days. In the book Nobody Likes You, Billie got angry about the reception of the album, and talked a lot of smack about the Pumpkins. "Glorified Arena rockers, full of pomp but hollow inside" dang. 1

I giggled when it said Smashing Pumpkins were supporting because they used to talk tons of shit about them in the 90s lmao. I recently listened to a folder of random old audio interviews I found and they made negative comments about them in three different ones including one with Ben Weasel where he and GD agreed on them as a band to be eliminated from existence. They thought they were boring and pretentious. But to be fair they did used to talk shit about virtually every band out there that wasn't a small/unknown one from 1990s to early 2000s. Edit: Nice discussion from a 1996 interview where they praise the music but instead talk shit about them as people Quote ARMSTRONG I've talked a lot of shit about Smashing Pumpkins, but I think the guitar sound on "1979" is really good, and so is the song itself. DIRNT I think us talking shit about Smashing Pumpkins is more just making fun of how pathetic those guys are. Especially Billy Corgan. I think it would have been better if he hadn't made such a big issue of his guitar playing right when they put out their first album, like "I played most of the guitar on this album. Any hot licks you hear, that's me, not James [ha]." This interview also contains this gem from Billie on the subject of GD not being grunge/shoegazers (not about Pumpkins but hilarious) Quote GW You guys were a breath of fresh air after grunge. You helped bring tight, concise songs back to rock. ARMSTRONG Well, we write rock and roll music. We're a rock and roll band. We're extroverted and exhibitionist. We're not shoe gazers no way. We're demented. Up on stage, I'm gonna take my fuckin' clothes off and wiggle my little dick at everybody. I'm gonna be totally obnoxious and rude and spit in the eye of every fucking heavy grunge band that ever came out. Half the interview is them shit talking various acts lol https://punkrocker.org.uk/punkinterviews/greenday.html 1
pacejunkie punk
Question is, is any journalist going to do their homework and call them out on it when they interview them for the tour? 😄 I remember when Billie got called out on Andy Cohen’s show for things he said about Bon Jovi and he admitted he used to be a dick 😂

Hopefully the band doesn't know lol. But I guess they were a lot younger then and they're all old enough to know that opinions and attitudes change.
DookieLukie
Why does 1981 have so many streams compared to the other non-singles?

Popular Post Christian's Inferno!
1981 does have more streams that the other non-singles though, probably just because it's the first non-single you hear on the album and maybe the fact that it was the first song we heard for the album (live) You can look for the streams each Green Day song and album is getting here Songs - https://kworb.net/spotify/artist/7oPftvlwr6VrsViSDV7fJY_songs.html Albums - https://kworb.net/spotify/artist/7oPftvlwr6VrsViSDV7fJY_albums.html There's a lot of interesting things to take from these figures. Saviors (the album) is getting 296k daily streams now, less daily streams than AI/Dookie/Nimrod/21CB/Insomniac but still much more than the last few studio albums, though in the coming months/years, that figure will continue to fall. I think Saviors will continue to perform better than FOAM and the trilogy in terms of streaming however. Revolution Radio has a lot of total streams, being their 5th most streamed studio album, but is gaining much less streams than all their studio albums from 1994-2009. Father of All has more streams than Dos & Tré but less than Uno. I wouldn't be surprised if Dos starts gaining streams at a faster rate than FOAM at some point. Stray Heart is gaining daily streams faster than any other trilogy song, even more than Oh Love which is the hit of that era and has the most total streams. Considering Oh Love can be heard on both Uno and God's Favorite Band, this is surprising. Last Night on Earth is gaining a lot of streams, currently no. 12 in terms of daily streams, even though it was never released as a single.
Montclare
LNOE continues to puzzle me. I love the song, but can't figure out why it has so many streams daily. It's up there with their top songs, getting more streams on a daily basis than more well known songs like She and Minority. And it wasn't a single. I can't figure it out. Yeah it's been getting a lot of streams for quite a while. It used to have around the same streams as East Jesus Nowhere. I've seen non-single tracks from other artists become one of their most streamed songs like Disenchanted by MCR or All I Wanted by Paramore. But idk what it is about Last Night on Earth
That Dude
What if we compare Saviors to all the rock albums released in 2024? Is it the top selling out of the Rock? If we completely ignore all other genres, Saviors has to be near the top of the list, right? Blink-182 is the only other Rock act with a big album out. Vampire Weekend's new one is getting praised, but they aren't anywhere near Green Day level, right?

Looks like they're into shittalking bands! Let's not forget the GD-Slipknot beef. Billie hated Slipknot but Corey played a couple GD songs live (e.g. Pulling Teeth). Pretty funny. Edited April 13 by The 99th revolution I don't know if Billie changed his mind so yeah

Maybe the algorithm is pushing the song for reasons like retention and likes.

nflsbest26
On the upcoming tour, given the potentially 30 song set list, you think Green Day will do less fan interaction (I.e: Billie’s speeches, hey-Ohs, bring fan up on stage, extend hitchin a ride) Seems like most of the 2.5 hr set will be solely pure music. Most likely. He did notably less on the Hella Mega tour as well. He still does it though, he just picks and chooses the spots more.

Even the snare fills in Holiday were synced to the light 😅

And I’m not sure if the lights were synced perfectly, just because I don’t think Green Day plays along to a click track, unlike some other bands. But who knows for sure!
