Saviors - Album Discussion

I have complete faith this will hit #1 on the album charts if MGK and Blink can GD will. The promotion is extremely good fans are happy no other big name releases are out to compete this will definitely get Grammy nominations and a win the Grammy website even did a piece on it plus it’s doing well with critics so fully confident this will be a successful era.

The Grammys have mostly ignored Green Day post-21CB. I think the only nomination they got after 21CB was for Cuatro for Best Music Film. So I think a nomination for Best Rock Album or Best Rock Song or something would be an achievement. They will be competing with blink-182 for the Grammys which regardless of your opinions, have done pretty damn good for a rock band in 2023/24 (likely because of Tom's return more than anything) and I can definitely see them winning a lot of the Rock category awards regardless of whether they deserve to or not. I'm also not expecting Saviors to do as well commercially as blink's new album but I don't really care about that because I think Saviors is a much stronger album

Regarding ranking albums, it's very hard to come up with an objective way of ranking albums. The trilogy has a bunch of fantastic songs but if you were to rank the project objectively, you'd have to take into account the many tracks that are comparatively mid or bad tracks compared to the best songs. I don't think the band was really caring about making a project that people would "rank high" in their album rankings, otherwise they would've just made a 40-50 minute album. Shorter albums for most people will always have an advantage in terms of album rankings. 21CB is their longest single album and while I wouldn't change anything about that album as it's my favourite, ik that if there were less tracks it would probably rank higher for most people

Strange Days Are Here to Stay and Living In the 20’s are my two favourites from the record. Lyrics and energy on both tunes are phenomenal

I think AI and 21CB fans love them, but others that go towards other records don’t. I love them both

Such a great album and I'm just very happy for them. This feels like such a victory for them, seeing all of the positive reviews and fun they're having.

What ever happened to that other snippet of a song that leaked? Not Fever, but there was this one as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6Gk62uoJfM

damn imagine if they kept Graffitia for this record and gave it the Cavallo treatment…

I had the same thought today! Graffitia was the only FOAM song that never really fit (and probably the only one I absolutely loved on that album, lol). It has a completely different vibe, a Saviors vibe. It would have been fantastic on this record with a Cavallo-touch. Too bad. Now it will always be a rough diamond (still love it!).

I feel like Saviors is a special kind of gift to the fans after FOAM.  We appreciate it more fully, and it’s like they’re saying “thanks for sticking by us through the last album cycle, for letting us experiment and challenge ourselves. We’re glad we did it but we know it was a big ask, now this album is our gift to you and something we know you’ll love”

I’m sure FOAM would’ve done a lot better with Cavallo’s guidance. Butch Walker meant well but he was basically a yes man, and a Green Day fan living his dream producing them.

Eh idk. Their interviews seem to show they liked FOAM a lot. I think they just took more care with this record partially thanks to Cavallo re-inserting himself.

I like FOAM (I seem to keep saying this) and I totally get others don't but I already had the first four songs from Saviors on my gym playlist which has lots of GD songs from their entire careers (including FOAM) on it and honestly, it's like there is a signature, regardless of how experimental or whatever they get, it's all GD and the link is there.

The write up about the album on iTunes if a good one but won't let me copy it over.

It's also only $8 on iTunes. Not sure if that is typical or a sale price.

Just picked up my exclusive vinyl and cds.  They couldn't get the signed cds they said we'd get because of an allocation issue.  Green Day's people sent 2500 to this area and there was a demand of 7000.  Dang.  But I did ask about other listening parties and they do them for other artists.  They said the Fall Out Boy brought too many people and it was chaos, and that the Green Day one was just right.  😄  I liked Stardust but I can't believe Fall Out Boy's listening party overwhelmed the store and for Green Day it was a 30 people or so bobbing their head.  I guess their fans are younger and their return was a big deal.....

Anyway.   Mailing out a copy for one of you guys and then going home to abuse my copies.   I have not one but blenders and I've picked the nimrod guts out of both of them.    Screw nimrod.

I think they were simply forced to rush it out to get it done in time to put the single out for the Hella Mega announcement

Eh idk. Can always release a single and keep working on the record like Blink did. I think they genuinely liked FOAM and that's okay. They had a vision for a quick party record and it just fell flat.

I think it's both. I think they genuinely liked FOAM and the idea they had for it, but I also think they were forced to release things sooner than maybe they wanted to. Though you'd think with such a gap between the first single and the actual album they'd have time to make any tweaks they needed.
