Saviors - Album Discussion

Wich IS the main criteria to rank albums: having BEST individual songs (despite having also Bad songs, ej: Tre!) or higher number of goods songs not being the BEST ones of their discography (ej. Nimrod)?

you

so saying things like ‚fuck off‘ or discriminating me for not speaking english in the same level as you is okay? Sorry that english is not my motherlanguage 🥺

Is not my motherlangue either, as of many people on this forum including the user you questioned. Which still used it correctly. Even more because of this questioning and/or making fun of a user on a wheelchair shows how much of a troll you are. And yes, saying fuck off to homophobic assholes is and should be ok. And you are clearly one.

Amazing that they got into the Hall of Fame before this album was even part of their legacy.  It deserves another Grammy but probably won’t get one

Yeah, but I think it will be hard to ignore it at least for a nomination.

I’m about to listen to the record for the very first time. I pre-ordered it from my local record store but of course it didn’t arrive in time. Went to two more stores but they didn’t have it either. So I guess Spotify will have to do.

That indeed is always a problem with ranking albums. There's no right or wrong, really. Personally, when ranking albums I rank the "object" as a whole, meaning I like to rank things such as: consistency, production, song flow, album cover/art, strength of opening and closing tracks etc.

I still regard listening to an album as a unique experience, very distinct from listening to a playlist, compilation or individual songs. So it's really about picking the album (in the case of a vinyl/CD physically taking it into your hands), looking at the art work & lyrics and then listening to the thing from start to finish. So when I rank albums, I try to rank this experience from best to worst.

Of course whether something is a good album or not will in large part also depend on how good the individual songs are. However, a consistent effort with good production (Saviors) can still beat an album that may have some individually speaking better songs (Kerplunk, RevRad) any day, if the overall end result is worse. For instance, RevRad has one of the best Green Day opening tracks ever, Somewhere Now and some other great songs too (Forever Now, Bang Bang), but it closes with Ordinary World, which is an awful awful choice as album closer and instantly takes the album down several ratings. Similarly, the production of Saviors is on point, damn near perfect, whereas the production is very patchy on RevRad and rather subpar on Kerplunk. a good point of reference in the case of Kerplunk's production is Welcome to Paradise on Kerplunk vs. Dookie. Let me just say the difference here is not marginal. So those are all things I try to take into consideration.

Okay, you may not like it

But BJA has  been very open about his bisexuality.

You can dislike it, you can try and deny it, but it doesn’t make it not true.

Bobby Sox is also, according to the songwriter himself, a queer song

none of the above is an opinion, or something that an opinion is valid on

Hum I thought he was just putting himself in the position of both the guy and girl in the relationship

My only wish for this was that it had more fast songs. A lot of songs are mid-tempo. But in that way it is similar to 21CB. Maybe I just got used to Trilogy-on fast songs only Green Day.

Same, my order from the official store didn't arrive. Did anyone in mainland Europe get it on time? I usually do the "first listen" celebration with CD or vinyl, but I just couldn't wait any longer and listened on Spotify. Looking forward to the vinyl experience soooo much though!

Happy new Green Day album release day folks! Since becoming a fan in 2004, this is my fifth release day and these days never cease to be special. Hard to believe this project started being teased over two years ago and that the day is finally here. Enjoy it everyone ❤️

7 release dates if you count the Dos and Tre releases separate to Uno. Enjoy!!!

I adore this album, so much better than FOAM.

It was a little bit of every album, a career compilation.

Standout song for me is Strange Days are here to Stay. So catchy and appropriate for the state of the world
